Remember When You...

Summary:

Class 2-3 remembers when Seimei...

[ONE PART HAS SPOILERS FOR THE KYOTO ARC]

Work Text:

"Jeez, wasn't it so long ago?"

Kuniko sat the child on the dirt and she and Rensuke sat next to each other.

"Ahh... yep, she kind of looked like this, Kuniko."

"Mhm!" She looked down at her daughter and patted her head. "I remember when Seimei-sensei had saved a little girl who looked just like you. Don't you remember when you did that?"

Rensuke laughed and ran a hand through his hair. "God, I was so pissed at you. Like- come on, man! You just ran in without a care for your safety!"

They both laughed again, the little girl squeaking along with them. Kuniko patted her head and pulled her into her lap.

"...And then, we made sure to save you, even getting in trouble with some police."

"Despite the fact Yamazaki-san was there."

They laughed again. Kuniko looked down and grabbed her daughters hand before waving it gently.

"Say 'hi' to Seimei-san."

"Hiii!"

Rensuke hummed and set a small paper doll on the ground. "I, uh... tried my hand at making one of these. I know you can't really use it, but I think that you still might want it."

She hummed and patted his shoulder. "I'm sure you'll get it sometime."

Rensuke chuckled. "Seimei was at it for years and yet couldn't do it all."

They both laughed together before quieting down. They sat there for a little longer, their daughter babbling into her toy phone. After a few moments they stood up once more and walked away, continuing to talk about their former teacher.

"I... I have another concert soon!"

Fuji held Ogoso's hand and squeezed it gently.

"Aaaand?"

Ogoso blushed brightly and lowered his head. "A-And... And Fu-"

"Ah-ah."

"...Touya and I are engaged."

"Yep!" Fuji held up one of his hands. "And you will not believe who the one to propose was! It was actually Saaaguru!"

"Touya!"

Fuji giggled while Ogoso was busying himself with fixing his suit. They both looked down and Ogoso cleared his throat.

"Um... I made a new line of toys! This time they're more for kids, but, there's this little talking sailor uniform figurine- ah... here."

He pulled out the small figure and clicked it once.

"Down with blazer uniforms!"

They both chuckled at the absurd statement before going quiet. Ogoso stood there for a moment and set it on the ground. Fuji scratched the back of his head and huffed out a small laugh.

"You know... I'm really glad you ran into Ogoso that one day. And that I was there when you knocked him to the ground."

"...I'm glad too, Seimei. I'm glad you told me to finally get to talking and that you paired us up for our dorms and... everything."

They both nodded and turned to leave. Soon after they began walking, they started talking about how Sano had led all of them through the dorm house of horrors, laughing at each of the parts they went through.

"Haha! You will not believe the hard time the kids gave me today!"

"I think he can, he taught us, you know."

Mujina and Tama sat down, Tama pulling off his tie.

"Didn't you say something about a real bad criminal, Mujina-kun?"

"Yeah, he was a slippery bastard. But we caught him!" He chuckled. "Though, I'm not sure he was as bad as your repeat offenses."

They both laughed loudly at that. Though, after a few minutes they got really quiet. Mujina let his head drop and he scratched the back of his neck. He then looked away, trying to avoid them both.

"Uh... Yamazaki-san said he missed you. And Takahashi-san. He visits the precinct a lot. Oh, and I know how to spell that now! P-R-E-C-I-N-CT! See!"

Tama laughed and high-fived Mujina.

"Right on! I also know my times tables up to 6! Remember when I said I had it up to 5 last time? Well now, I'm learning all on my own, Seimei!" He triumphantly crossed his arms.

"Oh wow, up to 6. I know mind up to 8!"

"As if that's better! Oh! You hear me, Seimei? I've gotten better at my grammar too!" He smiled before frowning deeply. "...Uh... well, I was grading some exams and I was wondering if you could help me." He pulled out a paper and read through it. "...I think this is wrong grammatically, but I'm not sure..."

"Well duh, see, he's supposed to use this character instead of this one." Mujina pointed at the page.

"She. It's Hijitan and Beni-chan's daughter!"

"Wait, you're teaching her?!"

"Yep! She's actually in a twin pair, and I have her brother too!"

Mujina blew out some air and after a few minutes he and Tama stood up.

"Thanks for the help, Seimei!"

"That was my help, dumbass."

They walked away, talking about Run, Melos, Run.

"Kunikoooo has someone, Senseeeiii has someone, and I'm alllll alooooooooone."

Akira chuckled to himself and looked behind him, seeing Yamazaki closing the door, talking to one of the kids inside. After this short visit, they were supposed to head to his school to see a play they were putting on.

"You know, all of your kids turned out amazing." He smiled softly. "Even the ones who you didn't dote on. They are all amazing. I'm surprised you managed it with how they all started out."

He crouched down and picked up the paper doll. "Ren-kun was through here, hm? He said he was making those as a way to summon Sensei without having to use money. Still hasn't found a way." He dryly chuckled.

He set it back down and let his head drop.

"...I miss you."

When he realized what he said he shook his head and laughed to the sky. "Oh! I'm remembering something! When you let me chase Sensei around the school!"

He fell back onto his butt and laughed even harder. "I really scared Sensei, didn't I?! You all knew what I was about to do, especially Ashiya-san!"

He fell onto his back and wiped his eyes before sighing.

"I wish you were back... I need a smart person to play Go and Shogi with! No one else is able to win against me!"

Yamazaki walked over to him, a child in his arms. He looked down at Akira who looked up at them. He raised his arms up, making a grabby motion, and soon the child was placed in his arms.

"Are you having a chat with him?"

"Yep!" He sat up. "See this! This is the human teacher, Abe Haruaki!"

The child stared at where Akira was pointing before turning back to him.

"See, he was the first human in a school of youkai! Not to say that... it started a wave of humans teaching or even attending youkai schools, but he was!" He chuckled. "He and I were friends, you know."

The child swayed in his arms and AKira smiled before standing up.

"Come on. I fear if I stay any longer I may begin to start crying."

"Wouldn't that be a sight to see?"

As they walked away, Yamazaki began talking about Haruaki's arrest record.

"What, 're ya not coming back again?"

Douman was on all fours, heaving as he stared down at the dirt. He felt tears welling up in his eyes and pushed himself up into a kneeling position, hiccuping.

"Why not, Seimei?! You did it before!" He wiped his eyes. "Shit- dirt-" He coughed and rubbed his eyes harder.

"I thought you'd be here, Acchan."

Douman turned around and saw Karasuma standing over him. He scoffed and turned back, grabbing at the dirt.

"Where iz he? He's here somewhere."

"Yes, he is." Karasuma reached under his arms and pulled him up. "He's under the dirt, Aachan."

"No... no he'sot gone." He slurred. "He's somewhere... I know he is!" he pushed Karasuma off of him and fell back on the ground. "He always comes back..."

"Doesn't he always?"

Karasuma watched Douman as he desperately scratched at the dirt. He shook his head and grabbed Douman once more, pulling him up again. Despite Douman kicked and trying to push him off, Karasuma easily held him and dragged him away.

"Come on, Acchan. Let me clean you up and you can go to sleep."

"I don' wan' sleep! I wanna see Seimei again!"

"I know... I know, you will. Just sleep, and I promise you'll see him again."

Douman slowly stopped fighting and slouched down, making it easier to drag him away.

"I guess you would be the first out of all of us..."

"Rintarou..."

"Well it's true, Izuna! There was... nothing! Nothing I could do to prevent it! I stopped smoking so much, especially around him, and- and, I gave him charms and love and-"

Loud sobs sounded out in the area. Hatanaka lowered his head as his best friend began crying. Hatanaka looked down at the ground, before seeing the little figurine there.

"...Remember when you almost killed him? When you were showing him your power?"

Miki turned to him and slowly nodded. "...Yes?"

"I remember afterwards, he went up to me and I asked if he was scared of you."

"And what was his answer?"

"'Obviously. I've never been chased around like that.'" Hatanaka recited. He continued, "'But it was also interesting to learn about. Both in terms of what he could do and what he's like.'" He smiled softly. "'I think I'm going to like Miki-san.'"

Miki watched him for a moment and looked down at the ground himself. "...He really said that?"

"Yeah." Hatanaka pulled out a cigarette and light, clicking it on and lit the cigarette. "Need a light?"

"I'm quitting."

"Oh yeah..." He blew smoke away from him. "Want me to stop?"

"No, no need."

Hatanaka nodded and they were quiet for a moment. Miki scoffed and crossed his arms.

"Come now! Haruaki wouldn't want us sad about this!" He tilted his head gently. "Uhh.... oh! How about that one time when we all got in trouble for destroying the bar!"

"That was your fault."

"And who made me get to the point I had gotten to?!"

They both laughed and turned to the tombstone in the ground.

"And then Haruaki used his magic and brought that huge beam down onto us!"

"I'm surprised we didn't die!"

They laughed even harder, leaning on each other as they did. Miki wiped his eyes and Hatanaka followed suit as he did. Their laughter slowly died down and they took deep breaths.

"...Izuna, do you think ghosts are real?"

"...I think they are. I hope they are."

"Why?"

"Because that means that he's still around."

Miki nodded. "But then... he'd be a spooky and scary ghooost!" Miki poked his sides.

He chased Hatanaka back to his car, threatening with poking him more, and Hatanaka ran, laughing as he did.

"Jeez, Ah told ya not to teach at that school."

Amaaki stood in front of the tombstone.

"...Ah never thought ya'd outlive me, Haru."

He stared down at the tombstone.

"...Ah wish Ah had mom's gift. Or even dad's. But.. at least with mom's, I might be able to see you. Just... one last time. Even for a brief moment..."

He wiped his eyes and turned away. "Jeez... Ah said Ah wouldn't cry, and Ah'm holdin' myself to that!"

He began stomping away.

"Nope! Not cryin', no sir!"

He furiously wiped at his eyes as stomped even harder, trying not to cry.

"No! Ah said Ah wouldn't, dammit!"

He broke into a jog as he headed back to his car, trying not to let his feelings get to him.

"Dammit-!"

"Ahh... there we go!"

Hijita and Beniko sat on one side of the tombstone.

"We would have brought our daughter, but we fear your spirit may be angered by the lack of a sailor uniform." Beniko laughed.

"Yeah, you guys know how Seimei gets."

Mame and Sano sat on the other side of the tombstone. Sano cleared his throat and pulled something from his coat.

"We each brought you something, Seimei." He set a charm down on the tombstone. "This is to protect you in the afterlife."

Beniko rolled her eyes. "You're always such a downer, Sano. Here!" She set a game box on the tombstone. "I know you didn't really play games, but, this was the game you stopped me in the middle of. I finished it, obviously." She flipped her hair. "And again... and again... but, I figured, you should have a chance at it."

Hijita snorted. "Well! I got him this!" He dropped a small pile of seeds on the tombstone.

Sano looked at them and looked back up at his friend. "What the fuck is this, Hijita?"

"They're rice seeds, dumbass! They'll bring him fortune in the afterlife!"

"I don't think that's right, Hijitan."

"Yeah, Koutarou."

"Ben-"

"I have two things, Seimei!" Mame pulled out a crudely formed aluminum ring. "Beans wanted me to pass this off to you! She made it herself! She said she was rather sad she was never able to grow old with you, Seimei." He smiled softly before pulling out a paper. "I asked Miki-sensei for a copy of one of your exams and he gave it to me! After he scored it, it turns out I got a 43!"

He set it on the tombstone and they all gently applauded him. After their small celebration, they were all silent.

"Remember when Seimei got lost and almost went to China that one time?" Beniko mumbled.

"Almost as bad as when he almost went to New York!" Sano laughed.

They all laughed loudly.

"Oh yeah! He was on the plane heading there and nearly had to learn English in 12 hours!" Mame patted Sano's shoulders.

"He honestly could learn it in that amount of time!" Hijita patted the tombstone. "You know how smart you are, huh, Seimei?"

They laughed together. They sat there for hours, laughing with each other about different things they remembered about their teacher.

And off in the distance, if one focused hard enough, they might able to see the outline of a man in a white button up, with a red tie and black slacks. He had the largest ahoge you'd ever see and he leaned against a tree. He looked to the right of him to see his identical twin brother.

"Do you still think I shouldn't have worked there?"

"Course Ah do. That hasn't changed. But.. Ah guess it wasn't too bad fer ya." He turned to Haruaki. "...I missed ya, Haru."

"I missed you too, Ame."

"C'mon, I think you'll start cryin' if you watch them even more."

"Are you sure you aren't the one who would cry?"

"Pshh, please."

They began walking off, Haruaki playfully pushing his brother who pushed him back.
