Work Text:
She came late at home from work, tired. As a detective her job was quite hard, definitely not what she imagined when she picked her working field on Denny's scrapyard 3 years ago. Her job was never easy, specially not after that day...
Shaking the bad thoughts away, she tried to think of something more positive that she realized as Sideswipe stepped in her life once more to make everything harder for her, that he decided to work with the cops all of a sudden, to become her partner and make her blood pressure go high once again! That day became less and less concerning and traumatic for her and she actually started reading more of "keeping your sanity for dummies" kind of books. Although being a pain in the neck, he could make her laugh from time to time and make her "roll her eyes" occasionally as he liked to put. - never liked to admit them out loud, but she knew they were true.
What was more interesting about him, was that he is the same as she remembered from many many years ago... when they were just some little and pure children minding their own business, playing around, causing chaos, blah blah blah... she remembered the first day they met, she was lost and couldn't find her way back... or forward. Through her tears she saw a red boy approaching her, gosh he looked like as if he has been rolling in mud! She looked at him with such disgust that her temples started to hurt, "Hey, why are you crying? You're so noisy, knock it off!" The boy asked, not getting a reply he decided to take a seat next to her on the bench. "Are you mute? You surely were crying quite loud a few seconds ago..." He said, convincing her to speak up...
They changed, they grew up, but despite all those changes he was still the same. He was still the same person that could manage to make her angry and happy all at once, if that was even possible.
She liked those days, too simple, nothing complicated. It was all about good guys versus bad guys, the end. Nothing more, nothing less! But when she joined the force, it didn't take her long to figure that justice was more to it than just words and muscles, finally could understand what her father always told her.
But now, nothing could get between her and food...
To her surprise, Prowl was home for once-in-a-lifetime, sitting on a chair and scrolling aimlessly through his phone. "Look who's home! What a shock, isn't it?" She greeted him, despite being tired, she kept her cheerfulness.
"Nice to see you too. Actually I'm here to talk... more or less giving good news." Prowl said with a calm expression, 'odd' she thought 'no intros?'. "Yes?" She replied, Prowl put his phone away and gestured her to take a seat. "I will start with the good news first, chief gave me a promotion. Now I'm at the lieutenant rank." He started as she sat in front of him across the table dividing them. "Wow, that's... quite nice!" She lied, he never wanted to spend time with her as it was, let alone now that he's getting a promotion. "There's more, we're going to get to another planet... most likely it's Caminus." Prowl said, but deep down there was more to his words. "Well... does my opinion really matter? If yes, then I refuse to join you." She said with seriousness. "Hmm, why is that?" Prowl asked her with the same calmness from before. "I can't leave my friends alone." She said, stern, loud and clear. "Can't they take care of themselves? Why do they need your help?" Prowl continued to interrogate her. "He does..." was all she said and they both fell in awkward silence.
Prowl smiled, 'was that really a smile?' She couldn't tell. "Looks like we both found good reasons to walk our own ways." Prowl said with the same ol' expression he always wore. "Hm? And what are they?" She asked, genuinely curious. He got up, she was still looking up at him. "Let's not use the term 'what are they' when we are talking about sentient beings." He said and waited for her reaction, all he got was an eyebrow raise, telling him indirectly to continue his words. "I found out that I feel more connected to someone else than to you. And that we haven't made any vows yet..." He said, hoping it wouldn't sound that bad in her mind. He usually didn't care about people's feelings, but she never did anything wrong to deserve it. "Uh..." was all she could audibly form, and to her shock she wasn't even that upset. "You did too, don't deny it. Else it would be the biggest lie you've ever told yourself." Prowl warned as he faced the opposite direction. "Sideswipe is more like a best friend to me..." she said, still in shock and couldn't think straight.
With a "Right," coming out of Prowl's mouth, he was about to step outside the door "although I never said who I was talking about. Good night." Prowl said and went back to his own apartment with his little dinosaur pet named 'Green', leaving her behind with her thoughts for the rest of the night... and probably the rest of the week.
"Maybe he's right..."
