Work Text:

“Hey, Keiji!” Tenma calls out as he passes by the editor's office. “Got any big plans today?”

Keiji briefly glances up from his laptop to ask, “What’s today?”

Tenma, looking confused, replies, “Um…Valentine’s day?”

Is it already mid-February? “Oh, right. Koutarou and I don’t do much for Valentine’s these days.”

“Oh.” Tenma responds, followed by an awkward silence. “Well, alright then. I guess I'll let you get back to it.”

This year marks his and Koutarou's 11th Valentine’s Day together (6th as a married couple). When his husband isn’t traveling, they’ll go out to dinner, choosing something lowkey that they won’t need reservations for before heading home for a little Netflix and chill (the type of chill depending on Keiji’s exhaustion level). Overall, Keiji is happy with the simple life and love that they’ve settle into.

Keiji is also used to the judgemental glares he gets when he talks about his usually lackluster Valentine’s plans. It’s not like the spark is gone or anything. He just doesn’t see the point in making a big fuss over a single day. He loves Koutarou every day; why should he wait a year to express that for a lowly 24-hour period?

Moments later, Keiji’s office phone rings. His head is buried deep in manga he’s editing, so he lets the call go to voicemail. Tenma voice echoes down the hall. “Hello?….Yes, he’s in his office…Sure, I’ll send him right down.”

Keiji hears the familiar sound of his mangaka's footsteps coming down the hallway once more. “You’ve got a delivery downstairs,” Tenma announces through the open door.

“A delivery, really?” A surprised Keiji inquires. He doesn’t usually order things directly to the office. “Are you sure it’s for me?”

Tenma shrugs. “That’s what the front desk said.”

Keiji saves the document on his computer and walks down to the lobby. He’s greeted by black-and-gray spikes and a smile brighter than the sun. “KEIJI!”

The editor is of course happy to see his husband but can’t help but be a little confused. “Koutarou, what are you doing here?”

Koutarou kisses him on the cheek and hands him a box of chocolate covered strawberries. “I just wanted to get a little sweet treat for my sweetheart.”

Keiji’s eyes start to well up. It’s silly, really. Koutarou makes him feel loved every single day, so why does this gesture make him feel so sappy? Koutarou wipes a single tear from Keiji’s cheek. “Happy Valentine’s Day, 'ji.”

Keiji throws his arms around his Koutarou, bestowing a tender kiss on his lips. “Happy Valentine’s Day, my love.”

Keiji knows that he feels the same love for Koutarou now as he always has. And no, he still doesn’t need a special day specifically set aside to celebrate that love. But if he gets a little extra attention every now and then, well, he supposes that’s okay too.
