Work Text:
It’s tradition at Fukurodani for the ace to wear the #4 jersey. But when Bokuto and the other third years graduate, there isn’t a clear choice for the next ace. As the new team captain, Akaashi decides to retire the number for the upcoming year. However, when their new uniforms arrive, Akaashi’s appears to be missing.
“Has anyone seen my jersey?” he asks the team.
“Over here!” a familiar voice calls from the doorway of the locker room. Akaashi jerks around, finding the former ace holding a jersey in the air. A jersey that just so happens to dawn the number 4.
“Bokuto-san! What are you doing here?” Akaashi asks in disbelief, walking towards the Fukurodani alum.
“Bringing your jersey, of course!” Bokuto beams. “Well, it’s actually 𝘮𝘺 jersey, but I really wanted you to have it.”
Akaashi glances back at the team, who appear to be very proud of themselves. Tears well up in his eyes. “I don’t know what to say,” his voice cracks as he clasps the jersey against his chest.
Bokuto wraps his arms around his best friend. “You’re gonna be an amazing captain,‘kaashi,” he whispers against the curvature of the setter’s ear.
Akaashi melts into the comfort of his warm embrace. “Thank you, Bokuto-san.”
