Chapter Text

Sometimes all you need is a decision to get through the day. With a decision comes a plan, with a plan comes steps.

Lucifer had delayed the decision by sleeping, hoping that a night of rest would change his mind, but it had not. At least, his plan wasn’t simple, requiring several specialised tools to make the attempt.

Looking around at his space, Lucifer saw that all of the flat surfaces were covered with used dishes and unshelved books, with his desk also piled with unattended paperwork.

It wouldn’t be fair to make anyone else clean up this mess. The least I can do is make that easier on them.

“Helvete,” Lucifer muttered and dragged a hand down his face. Swedish feels appropriate somehow.

He got up and gathered his books, lingering on favourites, with a slight pang of regret that he probably won’t read them again.

The dishes from several previous meals were gathered and sent away to the kitchen with a snap of his fingers. No sound or flash of glitter accompanying the action, there is no audience to play to here.

With a snap, the paperwork is sorted into neat piles, but when he picks a sheet up, he can’t gather the energy to parse the impenetrable legalese of the contract. This can wait.

The bed needs clean linens, no need for anyone to see the tangled result of a week spent in bed sleepless and crying. Another snap, and it’s taken care of.

Putting on his jacket and top hat, summoning his cane, he takes a final glance in a mirror as he walks out the door. No one would know by looking at him that a plan is in motion. They deserve to remember him as happy.

Let’s give them a show.
