Work Text:
Their lunch date was a quick in-and-out trip to a hole-in-the-wall ramen bar a little way into town. It was rough and ready for a first date — hardly fine dining — but Suguru insisted the place served the best tonkotsu ramen around.
It was certainly the best Satoru had ever had, but that had little to do with umami-rich broth or tender chashu pork. Instead, it had everything to do with the company — 45 minutes of unadulterated time spent swapping stories and jokes and favourites with someone who was fast becoming Satoru’s favourite of all. His favourite part of the date, however?
Surprisingly, it was the goodbye.
Suguru had gallantly insisted on walking him home, blushing when reminded that he’d parked his van on Satoru’s drive and therefore had little choice in the matter. Still, walking side by side, it was nice to see the mailman in a different light — the light of the sunshine reflecting off the river, the light filtering through the greenery overhead. With his bronzed skin and his amber eyes, Suguru looked shaped by nature herself, all his warm summer hues rendered even prettier by the bright afternoon.
It almost made Satoru sad to see the shade of his porch swallow up the sunshine on Suguru’s cheekbones. When he turned his keys in the lock, Satoru hesitated with his fingers on the door handle. Suguru, too, seemed to be dithering, looking from Satoru’s face to the van parked on the drive to the keys swaying in the lock. At the sight of his nervous mailman, Satoru was struck with a funny thought.
‘We’ve done this in all the wrong order.’
Suguru glanced up at him. ‘What do you mean?’
‘Aren’t we supposed to go on a date before the sloppy makeout session?’ When Suguru chided him for his vulgarity, Satoru ignored him. ‘You robbed me of a proper first kiss.’
Lips curving upwards, Suguru raised an eyebrow. ‘You saying our first kiss wasn’t good enough, Satoru?’
‘No,’ Satoru said, a little too quickly. ‘I’m saying it wasn’t a proper first kiss. You practically ate my face.’
‘I’m so sorry.’ He didn’t sound it, biting back a snicker like that. ‘I didn’t realise there were laws for these things.’
Satoru huffed, crossing his arms over his chest and trying to tamp down his smile. ‘Perhaps we should have a do-over. Seems to me like you need an education, Suguru.’
‘Then please—’ Gold eyes glinting, Suguru opened his palms out wide. ‘—educate me, O Great Teacher Gojō Satoru.’
Before he obliged, Satoru made a show of appraising him, sinking his teeth into his lip to hide his grin. ‘Since you asked so nicely,’ he finally said, leaning in close. ‘It’s all in the bumping of noses. Proper first kisses are hesitant, like this.’ Gently, he brushed their lips together, pulling back a little to murmur, ‘You don’t open your mouth for a first kiss, Suguru. Everyone knows that.’
‘Do they indeed?’ At Satoru’s little nod, Suguru smirked. ‘My turn then.’
He held out all of five seconds before he started laughing against Satoru’s lips, prompting the taller man to pull back with a click of his tongue.
‘What did I just say, Suguru?’ He pushed the mailman’s jaw shut with two fingers. ‘Mouth closed.’
Suguru’s grin grew even wider, something wicked tucked into the corners. ‘I don’t think I like it though,’ he said, whiny tone at odds with the dangerous gleam in his eyes. ‘I think I prefer it like this.’
When Suguru grabbed a fistful of white hair and dragged Satoru down for the dirtiest kiss he’d ever tasted — open-mouthed and not hesitant in the slightest?
Well, Satoru couldn’t say he minded too much.
