One hand to keep you warm, one hand to hold my chin

Summary:

Steve notices the misty look she’s wearing, and starts rubbing a soft hand down her back. “Hey, is something wrong? You feeling okay?”

Eddie nods. “Yeah, I just love you. This has been so fun, it’s so nice to just be silly with you.” Blushing, she confesses, “I want this forever, y’know? For everything to feel this easy.”

Work Text:

Steve takes a seat at the living room table with a large, neon pink Caboodle of makeup; all of which are presumably expired. It’s safe to assume it’s still suitable for use, even with it having been shoved to the back of his closet since he began his transition. A meticulously organized array of cosmetics, ranging from high end products accumulated from holidays and birthdays, to drugstore makeup from when he was just beginning to play around with his femininity. A concept that had been all but forced upon him.

Conversely, Eddie herself doesn't own much makeup, and what she does own she sheepishly dumps out onto the table out of a plastic bag. She winces at the sound of its harsh clattering. Steve sits there, chewing on his lip as he sets to organize through the clutter. Some e.l.f. cosmetics here and there, a couple of Nyx jumbo eye pencils, and worn-out brushes with their labels rubbed off. Everything is coated in a layer of gunk, undoubtedly smudged by the uncapped eye pencils and a slimy lip gloss tube.

Eddie just plops down on her seat with a shy smile, trying not to cringe at the sight of Steve getting sticky gloss all over his fingers, instead blowing him a kiss when he gets up to look for some wet wipes.

When he gets back in his seat, he scans the products with a worried expression. “Do you have any foundation?”

Eddie looks down at her products with a cute furrow to her brows. “Um, I have white face paint? Oh, and some concealer!” She excitedly picks up a Ben Nye concealer wheel and a white Kryolan paint stick, proudly presenting them to Steve.

He takes them from her and wipes them down. “Babe, did you steal these from the Hawkins drama club or something? This is theater makeup.”

“Oh, I most certainly did,” Eddie titters, failing to hide her amusement, “I stole so much shit from the dressing rooms back then, I was crazy!”

Steve laughs to himself, picking up an old tube of lipstick with a half peeled label to wipe down. “Of course you did.” He looks out at the spread of makeup in front of them; specifically her weathered down, messed up pile of cosmetics, all of which have seen better days. “You know, I think I should take you to Sephora sometime soon.”

Eddie clutches her chest dramatically, batting her eyes. “Why, you think I look better with makeup?”

“No,” He frowns, “But if you’re going to be wearing it, it’s better to use products for your complexion and skin type, not stage makeup.” He cracks open a mystery tube, since nothing is marked correctly, wincing as he peers down into the crusted-over container. “Also, when was the last time you bought a new tube of mascara?”

Eddie scratches her chin, shrugging. “I mean, technically I’ve never bought mascara-”

Steve gives her a flat look, trying his best not to grin at his girlfriend’s antics. “Okay, when was the last time you walked out of CVS with mascara?”

“Hm, sometime last summer maybe? Wait, no, yeah. I remember ‘cause I made sure to get waterproof.”

“Alright, well I think I’ve got a gift card or two in this old kit we can use. Let me look through here and see if I can find it…” He rifles through the Caboodle, Eddie’s eyes widening in shock as he begins laying out his products.

Pristine Dior blushes, Huda Beauty mini palettes, a few Maybelline liquid lipsticks, and so forth. He snatches up a clear Fenty gloss excitedly. “Oh my god, this bad boy got me so many tips at Scoops Ahoy.”

Eddie can’t help but let his words fly over her head, astonished at all the makeup Steve has spread out. Fingers skimming over the products hesitantly, she gasps. “Oh my fucking god- babe, can I have this?” She reverently picks up a well-loved Estee Lauder quad, an array of muted shades of taupe and plum.

Steve smiles to himself, lost in thought. “That one’s my favorite. It was a gift from my mom; I think it was one of those ‘gifts with purchase’ things originally, but she thought the colors were too gaudy or whatever. Lasted me all the way through middle school, and I could never find it in myself to get rid of it.” Steve glances up at his girlfriend, wrapping his hands around hers so they close around the product. “It’s yours.”

Eddie's eyes sparkle with gratitude. “Thanks, baby.”

“It’s all yours, if you want it. Travel case, too.” He offers.

“Wh- Steve! This is all so nice, I almost feel guilty accepting all this…” She pouts, before sitting up and snatching a metallic Urban Decay palette. “Almost,” She giggles maniacally. She opens it up to swatch the glittery shades on her arm, kicking her legs in the air as she goes.

Steve laughs with her, entranced by the sight of her slender fingers digging into a shimmery violet shade. After indulging himself with a minute of lovesick gazing, he turns back to the work at hand.

“Okay, before we let ourselves get too excited, we’ve got to sort out your makeup. Not everything is gonna fit into this kit. So,” He starts spreading her products apart, immediately picking out some that’s worse-for-wear. “This pile on the left is salvageable, everything in the right pile needs to be thrown out. Got it?”

Eddie nods and places her hand up to her forehead, fingers dusted with dark smears of shadow. “Aye, aye, cap’n.”

Rocking back and forth in her seat, she watches excitedly as he continues going through all her makeup, new and old; that is, she watches excitedly until she sees a familiar dusty black tube sitting on the right side.

She chokes, her eyes widening with theatrical despair. “Don’t throw out that eyeliner! That’s my first girl makeup.” She grabs it, clutching it to her chest with wide eyes, “She’s been with me throughout my transition… I can’t just toss her in the garbage!”

“Eddie, you came out five years ago. How fucking old is that thing? You can’t even read the label on it! It should be in a museum at this point!” He laughs, trying to grab it from her as she holds it above her head.

Eddie closes her fist around it, not letting Steve’s fingers breach her grip. “If you can keep that nasty old binder of yours, I get to keep this eyeliner!”

Steve slouches back, a wide smile on his face as he allows himself to fall into the dramatics. Eddie knows he’ll give in, he always does if she’s really passionate about something, but the mention of the lone binder stashed in their closet seals the deal. It was the one article of clothing he refused to get rid of, even though he’s nearing three years post-op and definitely has no need for any sort of compression garment. For him, it’s a reminder of where he started. A token of appreciation for his younger self, the version of him that took the biggest leap.

Eddie gets it, she really does, because she is nothing if not a hoarder of sentimental trinkets. She keeps every birthday card she’s ever gotten, still owns all her first sketchbooks with crudely drawn anime vixens. Hell, she’s even kept the tickets from her first movie date shoved in some dresser cabinet. A date that wasn’t even with Steve, just some goth chick Eddie hasn’t seen since high school.

After fake-contemplating for longer than necessary, surely just to make Eddie sweat a bit, Steve heaves out a clearly fake sigh. “Okay, fine ! But I better not see you using this on your eyes anymore, alright? This is for sentimental value only.” Once she nods in agreement, he places it in its rightful spot on the left side of the table, and continues organizing her collection.

After a good ten minutes of Steve zeroing in on his task, Eddie taps him on the shoulder. “So, are we ready? Is it time?”

“Yeah, I can work with what we’ve got.” Steve adjusts in his seat, pulling Eddie’s chair closer to his. “Okay, all you’ve gotta do is sit there and look pretty-” He wags a finger in Eddie’s face, “And you better not try to bite me.”

Eddie scoffs, crossing her arms. “As if it’s my fault you taste so good.”

Steve runs his thumb over a small brush, turning his head to conceal his darkening cheeks. “Quiet you weirdo, I gotta focus.”

He opens up her color correcting palette, humming to himself as he starts applying the light peach shade around Eddie’s jaw. She watches him as he works, trying not to smile so he won’t mess up with the application. It’s difficult when she’s so absolutely enamored with the way his eyes squint in concentration. He looks up for a second to apply some green on her nose, but stops when he sees the look on her face.

“What’s so funny, baby? You look like you’re holding something in.”

Eddie shrugs, “Nothing, I just love you.”

“That’s sweet, I love you too,” He puts down his brush to cup the back of her head, bringing her in for a kiss. “Will you still love me if this makeup sucks?”

She nods in earnest, and tries pressing herself closer against him. “I will, you know that.”

With one more quick peck, Steve pulls back to grab her concealer. He begins dotting the product over her jawline, then adds some to her t-zone to make up for the lack of foundation, because there’s no way in hell he’s gonna use that stark white paint stick.

“I think you’re gonna like the look I have planned, I’ve given it a lot of thought.” He pulls away to grab a beauty blender, inspecting it thoroughly before he starts blending. “I used to really love messing around with makeup, actually. It was something I entertained myself with, in a way? I guess it was a sort of mindless task, just sitting in front of the mirror and going through the motions. Worked pretty well to get my mind off stuff.” Eddie tries to nod along, until Steve stops the motion with a gentle hand to her cheek.

She responds, “I can definitely see how this could be relaxing for someone. It’s like how I draw when I’m stressed out, to focus my mind on something else, something that needs a lot of attention to detail.”

He grins. “Yeah, exactly! You know I’m like, the least artistic person, but it still feels good to create something. Even if I was mostly just copying some old Tati Westbrook tutorial.”

“Did you ever do anybody else’s makeup back then, the way you’re doing mine now? Or did you only ever do it on yourself?”

He bites back a smirk. “Us cheerleaders would pair up at sleepovers and give each other makeovers, swatch lipsticks on each other, all that girly shit. It’s fun, sharing techniques, testing things out on one another. You know,” He pauses, “There’s only one thing more exciting than doing a pretty girl’s makeup.”

When Eddie raises her eyebrows, questioning, he winks.

“Being the one to mess it up.”

She keeps her blushing face still while he works around her mouth, trying her best to bite back the urge to say fuck it; lets rework this makeup session into a make out session.

Instead, she allows her mind to wander, thinking back to the Steve she knew in high school. Not that she really knew him back then, moreso his reputation: Preppy, sporty, only hung out with the jocks and popular girls. There was always something so clearly sad in his eyes, but he was too good at hiding it. Appearances above everything, even though it was killing him on the inside.

Eddie recalls rumors claiming he always woke up hours before school to put on a full face, which she didn’t understand back then and definitely doesn’t understand now. She much prefers messily applying her makeup in her car with bad lighting, music blaring to distract herself. If she stares at her face for too long, she’s bound to get dysphoric over something only she’ll notice.

As tough of a riot-grrrl front as she puts on, dysphoria still has a funny way of sneaking up on her at times, crippling her with anxiety that threatens to tear her apart. On countless occasions she’s caught herself obsessing over her appearance in their bathroom mirror, under glaring fluorescents that cast her face in unflattering shadows.

Her attempts at wearing makeup often turn sour. Wonky eyeliner could sometimes send her into a downward spiral, forcing her to cancel plans, show up fashionably late to the occasional Corroded Coffin set, or hole up in her room and hide from everybody she loves.

When the teenagers that infiltrate her place of work become too rowdy, their stupid guffawing from the back of the store morphs into a cacophonous chorus of self-hatred, she finds herself hiding in the dingy Spencer’s employee bathroom, desperately attempting to conceal her five o’ clock shadow.

She snaps out of the spiral she’s thrown herself into, focusing instead on Steve as he continues blending out her base. Brows furrowed in deep concentration, his tongue cutely peeking out from his lips; it’s clear that he loves doing this. Eddie frowns to herself, thinking back to closeted teenage Steve. For the thousandth time, she wishes that they had actually become friends before graduating.

Tapping his knee softly, she asks, “Why don’t you do it anymore? I think you’d look good!” He would, she knows he would, because he’s just… pretty. Long lashes, full lips, puppy dog eyes. Always incredibly, unfairly beautiful, even on his worst days.

Steve frowns, chewing at the soft skin on his lips while he thinks. “Well, at first it was ‘cause I wanted to pass more, but I’ve learned that there’s more to life than cis approval. I’m definitely not opposed to it,” He shrugs, “And I have been missing my lip gloss lately, for sure.”

When they first became friends, he had been convinced that hypermasculinity was the only way to survive; that he’d never be worthy unless he passed as cis in every situation, forever. It wasn’t until he started falling in love with Eddie, with her far from traditional femininity and trans-anarchist attitude, that he’d warmed to the idea of being proud of his trans identity. He’s begun to slowly dip his toes into the pool of gender-fuckery, and Eddie couldn’t be more proud.

He sighs, pulling Eddie from her stupor. “I’m just really light-sensitive these days, you know, with the migraines? The worse they get, the harder it is to sit in front of a bright light without sunglasses on, and I sure as hell cannot apply eyeliner while wearing Ray Bans. Maybe I’ll try it when I have a good head day, because I honestly do think I’d like to start it up again.”

Eddie tilts her head in thought, murmuring an apology when Steve grabs onto her chin to keep blending. “That makes sense. I’m sorry about your head, I hope we can figure that out soon. Are you seeing your neurologist again soon?”

Steve waves off her apology. “Yeah, sometime next month. Remind me later to add it to our calendar. And hey, Robbie lets me do their makeup sometimes, so I’ll just continue living vicariously through them,” Steve tucks a lock of Eddie’s hair behind her ear, blending a spot of concealer on her cheekbone. “And now you!”

Eddie suddenly gasps, patting Steve’s shoulder excitedly. “You know who would probably love getting their makeup done?” Steve raises an eyebrow, tilts Eddie’s head to the side as he continues blending. “El! She never got to have the, like, typical girly childhood, right? She probably hasn’t had a real girls night, we should have her over for one! Oh, and we can invite Max and Chrissy, and of course Robin can come too, it would be so fun !”

Steve pauses, squeezing the beauty blender in his hand absentmindedly. “She would probably love that, actually… and I won’t even lie, I kinda miss being invited to girls' nights.”

“See, it’s a win-win! We gotta compare schedules with Robs and Chris after this, see when we can make it happen.” Eddie vibrates excitedly in her seat, wiggling around until Steve places a calming hand on her shoulder.

“Do you need some more time to fidget a bit, or can you sit still while I put on some blush?” He smiles as he watches Eddie hold up a finger. He puts the product he was holding back down on the counter, and presses a kiss to Eddie’s wrist as she continues rambling.

“Maybe we can bake something, or watch some movies- has El seen Heathers ? But I’m a Cheerleader ? Scream ? Those are like, cool girl rites of passage! Oh, and we can paint each other's nails, and do facemasks...” She trails off at the end of her sentence, staring absentmindedly into space as she starts mapping out the idea in her head.

Steve chuckles, “Sounds fun. Ready?”

She nods, and Steve holds her face by the jaw. “Stay super still, I’ve got a very specific placement in mind.”

Eddie closes her eyes as Steve swipes a tapered fluffy brush high on her cheekbone, then along the tip of her nose. She notices Steve focusing the placement right around the outer corner of her eyes, and tries her best not to twitch as it tickles her cheek. It feels nice, almost a little fuzzy as he starts moving the brush in soft, steady circles.

Steve’s hold on her jaw tightens a little as he tilts her face, repeating the motions on her other eye. “You’re so cute.”

Eddie mumbles in response, trying her best to keep still. Steve moves the brush in small circles for a few seconds longer, then pushes back her bangs to press a soft kiss against her forehead.

She gently opens her eyes, blinking fast, “Are you finished with blush?” Steve nods, picking up a Huda beauty eyeshadow palette, “What’s next?” She asks.

“Some shadow, and then it’ll be time for eyeliner,” He points the brush in her direction as if it were an extension of his finger. “ You’re putting on your own mascara though, I don’t wanna risk stabbing you in the eye.”

Curious, she bends in his direction so she can look at the palette. “What color are you doing?”

He pulls the top of the palette towards him, making it so she can’t see which pan the brush has dipped into. “You’ll just have to wait and see.”

Eddie huffs, leaning back into her seat. “Tease.”

Steve winks, “You love it.” He taps the brush lightly. “Close your eyes for me.”

Eddie swings her legs back and forth as Steve feathers the brush across her eyelid. She hums along to the playlist he’s put on, a mix of their music that surprisingly doesn’t clash. At least, not as much as she would expect it to. Eddie mentally goes over their upcoming schedules, trying to figure which day might work best for them to host a sleepover. Steve continues working in silence, gently pushing at her jaw every now and again to get the angle right.

“Okay, open your eyes for a sec?” He bites at his lip in concentration as he looks at her eyes, moving her head to the side so he can compare the two. “Hm, I might not even use eyeliner actually… I think I’m gonna try something, close ‘em again.”

“You’re just gonna take a risk on my beautiful face? Must be feeling pretty brave, Harrington.”

Steve groans, swiping a small brush around her lash line. “Babe, I’d rather you just called me a slur.”

Eddie grins mischievously. “Sorry fag , didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.”

He gasps in faux offense. “Bitch!”

She giggles, falling still with a satisfied grin when Steve presses a kiss to her hairline. The touch is soft, gentle as he always is, even when they’re pretending to bully one another like this.

After quickly smoothing out her bangs, making sure he didn’t smudge the base he’d just applied, he gets back to work. “Okay, open your eyes and look up.”

Eddie tries not to flinch at the feeling of a brush so close to her waterline, when suddenly she widens her eyes in surprise. “Woah, since when do we have popcorn ceilings? How did you let that happen?”

Steve stops moving the brush, confused. “What? Have you never looked at our ceiling before? We’ve been living here for a year , babe.”

She flaps her hands, floundering around while still looking up so Steve can continue working. “I don’t know, there’s better things to look at! I have a smokin’ hot guy in my bed every night, and you want me to look at some nasty old water stains? Get your priorities straight; why are you looking at the ceiling?”

“Uh, ‘cause I sleep on my back, unlike your freaky ass shoving your full face in the pillows. I’m honestly scared you’re gonna wake up with brain damage from a lack of oxygen.”

“It’s comfortable, don’t knock it till you try it! No reason to look at the stupid popcorn ceilings when you can just look at me, your perfect girlfriend.” She flashes him a winning smile.

Steve continues swiping the brush in tight lines around her lashes, his voice flat as he responds. “Eh, I’ve looked enough.”

She swats at the arm that isn’t holding the brush, missing it by a few inches since she’s still looking up. “So rude , you can never get too much of a good thing.”

“Remind me next time I’m pulling your hair out of the shower drain.”

Eddie scoffs, trying not to roll her eyes out of fear Steve will accidentally poke them. “I sure will.”

They sit in silence for a few minutes, Steve laser focused on the strokes he’s making with the small brush. She suspects that he’s using a dark eyeshadow in place of eyeliner, probably something to do with minimizing harsh lines. Stuck staring at the ceiling, Eddie tries making shapes out of the bumps and ridges above her. She’s just about able to make a face from a faded crack lining the furthermost corner when she decides to break the silence.

“Hey, would you fuck your clone?”

Steve sighs, bringing the brush to rest in his lap. “I’m sorry, what? Also, you can stop looking up and just face straight ahead.”

Eddie faces him, relishing in his exasperated expression. “Simple question baby, would you fuck your clone?”

“I’d fuck your clone,” Steve tilts her face from side to side, making sure her makeup is symmetrical before he falters. “Wait, would our clones be trans too? Or are these our cis counterparts?”

“Shit, I guess that’s up to them… do clones still get gender dysphoria? Is that just in our genes? Well- I guess they’d be the same genes anyway…” Eddie’s musings trail off at the end, her mind running a thousand miles a minute. She decides to call Dustin when they’re done, because if anybody knows the answer, it’s that nerd.

Steve speaks up, his tone more than a little confused. “Why are we talking about clones anyway? What brought this up?” He brings the brush back to Eddie’s eyes, going through the motions of blending out the corners.

Eddie stares blankly ahead, going backwards over her previous train of thought. “Oh, when you brought up my hair it got me thinking, if anything happened to me you could just clone me from the shower drain. Although maybe I’d end up with like, soap scum and bathbomb glitter in my DNA.”

Steve laughs, increasingly endeared by his girlfriend’s weird, wonderful brain. “I wouldn’t clone you because that means I’d have to raise baby Eddie, and from what I’ve heard you were a damn handful. Wayne’s told me enough horror stories to scare me off having your kids for at least five years.”

She grumbles as if she were annoyed, but tries not to squeal over the thought of having kids with her boyfriend. “I was a great kid, I just had shit parents. What, scared of a little ADHD?”

While having a brood of Little Munsons running around does sound a tad hectic, it’s also kind of everything she’s ever wanted- a family . And she’s well aware that Steve wants that too, with the way he coos over baby shoes at Target, always picking out items he would want for his future children. That man was born to be a dad, and sometimes it feels insane that she’s the woman he wants to go on that journey with.

“I’m not scared to have your freaky hyper babies, I’m just saying I hope they take after me.” He smiles at her, charming and so stupidly handsome.

Even though they’re poking fun at the idea, she knows that he’s really over the moon to be discussing their future children. If she could look into his mind's eye, Eddie is sure she would see a vision of polo-wearing, metalhead babies out for a day at the zoo, or some other classic All-American family outing.

She grins back goofily, following the motion of Steve’s strong hands as they shuffle through her products. “With your dashing charm and my tantalizing beauty… I think our kids could take over the world, actually.”

Steve gestures to her lips, holding a tube of lipstick. “Hm, sounds about right. Can you open your mouth a little?”

Eddie parts her lips, her eyes following the movement of Steve’s hands. They move to carefully apply the product on the center of her lips. He has a hand holding her chin to keep her steady, and she notices his own lips are parted as well, mirroring her expression. After lightly smudging the lipstick with his thumb, he pats on the same peachy shade of blush he’d used on her earlier, blending them together.

He sits back in his chair with his hand still on her chin, turning her head to the side, appraising her. Once he’s looked her over, he breaks out into a wide grin. “Alright babe, we’re done! Besides mascara, don’t forget to put that on.”

Eddie stands up, cracking her neck as she turns to look in the mirror. Her skin is a touch paler than usual, making the rosy blush look much deeper. Her eyelids are coated in a deep crimson, with a thin white stripe above her lash line. Dark red eyeshadow blends seamlessly into the flush of her cheeks, with streaks of black feathered around her eyes, bleeding out in some spots to give a messy, almost effortlessly chic sort of style. Her lips have a touch of the same deep red eyeshadow that’s been used on her crease, focused around the center, blended out by the chapstick he’d applied.

She looks cool , not that she had ever doubted that Steve knew her style, but this is just spot on. With her long, dark hair puffing up around her, she looks almost vampiric, undead in a sultry sort of way.

Eddie picks up her jaw from the floor to squeal, “Babe! How are you so good at this? Oh my god! I look so !” She gasps, turning to grab Steve’s face in her hands. “You are officially allowed to do my makeup whenever you want, for any occasion. Holy shit, I do not remember your makeup looking this good in high school!”

Steve grins, placing a hand on top of one of hers. “Okay, rude , I just wore a different style. I chose something that I thought would suit you more, since you’re a creepy little metalhead who would probably choke if I tried putting bright pink eyeshadow on you.”

Eddie laughs brightly, remembering the former ‘queen’ of Hawkins High and all the upsetting fashion choices Steve used to make. “Oh, you totally wore bright pink eyeshadow, it’s coming back to me,” She looks him up and down, contemplating. “Y’know, you kinda just went from being Barbie to living as Ken.”

He rolls his eyes affectionately. “If I’m Ken, who are you?”

Eddie doesn’t hesitate with her response. “I’m like the fucked up Bratz doll that the family dog used as a chew toy.”

Steve places his hands in the dip of her waist, squeezing lightly. “Well, you’re my very pretty chew toy, and I love you very much. Think I can snap a picture for the girls to see?”

“Can I change my outfit first? I feel like I’m wasting a makeup pic if I’m just wearing PJ’s.” She gestures to her sweatpants and baggy tank top, and Steve nods, pressing a barely-there kiss to her cheek before she gets up and heads to their room. She sheepishly turns back around to grab her mascara, pulling her boyfriend into a quick hug before she finally slips away.

Eddie opens their closet, digging through and throwing clothes to the floor until she finds the outfit she has in mind- a distressed Iron Maiden baby tee paired with an old pair of tripp pants. If she were going out, she thinks, she’d add her usual rings and boots, maybe some fishnets, but what she’s got now is good enough for taking photos with Steve. She sits cross legged in front of the mirror hanging off their door, applying mascara with a careful precision usually reserved for her miniatures.

Once she’s finished changing, she adjusts her pants so they hang low on her hips, and waltzes into their cramped living room with a flourish. Steve can’t tear his eyes away as she spins into a dramatic twirl, dropping onto the couch with her arms stretched out. She conveniently lands on Steve’s lap, his arms wrapping around her waist without a second thought. He looks comically lovesick, jaw dropped and eyes heavy as he looks her up and down.

“You look… so good. Upsettingly good? Has a man ever died over how beautiful his girlfriend is?” He holds onto her hips to keep her balanced, his grip so tight that Eddie wonders if she might bruise.

She smiles, pinching his cheek as it heats up beneath her fingers, “Nah, pretty sure you’d be the first. C’mon, take my picture, Robbie’s gonna love this. I look so cool!”

Eddie grins wide when Steve takes her picture, doing a goofy thumbs up with both hands. He turns the camera the other way, taking photos of the two of them as they laugh together. Eddie holds him by the chin, kissing his cheek as he swipes through his camera roll.

“We’re so cute,” Steve smiles fondly down at his phone, giggling at one of the last pictures where it’s almost too blurry to tell what's going on. “Maybe we should get one of these framed? We don’t have enough nice pictures of us in the house.”

Eddie nods, taking Steve’s phone from his hand so she can airdrop the photos to herself, grinning like crazy. Her heart bursts with an insane level of affection, and she adjusts herself on Steve’s lap so she’s straddling him. He looks up at her, his expression so sweet she honestly feels she might start crying.

Steve notices the misty look she’s wearing, and starts rubbing a soft hand down her back. “Hey, is something wrong? You feeling okay?”

Eddie nods. “Yeah, I just love you. This has been so fun , it’s so nice to just be silly with you.” Blushing, she confesses, “I want this forever, y’know? For everything to feel this easy.”

Steve keeps his hands steady, looking up at her in earnest as he comes up with the right words. That’s something she loves about him, the way he stops to think before he speaks. His words always carry so much weight behind them because she just knows he always means it.

“I’m not going anywhere, not without you by my side. I’d follow you to hell and back,” He grins, “I really like being silly with you too, and I like being bored with you, and… every other feeling. You’re my girl , Eddie, I love you.”
