Work Text:

Tim rubbed at his face as he glanced over to the clock on the bedside table. The glowing red numbers told him it was well last three in the morning. Not that it mattered to him much. He had long since given up on sleep. There was too much going on in his mind for him to find any sort of rest. His eyes wandered over to the sleeping man beside him in the shitty hotel bed, buried under the covers. It was strangely comforting knowing that Jay could find some rest when he could not. Lord knows he needed it as much as Tim did.

Neither one of them had been sleeping well the past few days. While Tim was more than used to it, he could tell that the lack of sleep was wearing on Jay. He had been a little more paranoid and jumpy because of it. At least Tim assumed that was why. It could be many things, really.

Tim sighed then carefully for up, trying his best not to disturb the other man as he did so. He grabbed his jacket from the chair where it was draped, then put it on. The man then stepped out into the chilly night air after making sure he had his keycard. He didn’t go very far as he pulled his cigarettes from his pocket. Tim pulled one out and lit it as he stared up at the barely visible stars.

It was such a peaceful night that he almost expected something to ruin it. How long had it been since they had such a quiet night? Tim wasn’t sure now that he really thought about it. If it wasn’t a nightmare waking one of them, then it was a visit from one of their favorite stalkers. But he pushed those thoughts from his mind as he traced made up constellations, listened to the nighttime critters and ruined his lungs.

All too soon, Tim had finished his cigarette. He debated on having another one but decided against it as he flicked the butt onto the ground and snuffed it out. The man turned back to the hotel room’s door and made his way towards it. Maybe he could get some rest when they started driving for the day.

Tim opened the door and stepped inside. He made it maybe two steps inside before a weight tackled him, then pinned him to the ground. “Hey!” Tim yelled as he struggled. Then his eyes adjusted to the gloom, and he realized it was just Jay. He stopped struggling but tried to hint that he would like to be allowed up. “What the hell!? What are you doing?!”

It took a moment for Jay to actually respond, recognition lighting up in his eyes. “I…” He hesitated. “Thought you were someone else. Sorry.” His hold loosened, but he did not allow Tim up just yet as he slumped against him. This was not the first time that he was reminded of just how light Jay was. Like a stiff breeze would blow him away.

“It’s fine.” Tim finally said, pulling his wrists from Jay’s grasp to wrap his arms around him. “I didn’t wake you up, did I?”

“No.” Jay answered, shuffling to slide off Tim to press into his side instead.

“Liar.” Tim said. “Can we get off the floor?”

“I’m not lying.” Jay defended. “Just… the bed felt empty.” Rather than answering the question, Jay forced himself up, then helped Tim up before heading back to the bed.

“Uh huh,” Tim said. As soon as he was settled, Jay was pressing into him once more. Tim wrapped an arm around him, pulling him close once more. “Get some more sleep, Jay.”

There was a mumbled protest, but Tim didn’t catch a word of it as he realized the other man was already drifting off to sleep. He hesitated a moment, then pressed a kiss to his forehead. When he really thought about it, there was no where Tim would rather be than right here with Jay in his arms, his steady breaths tickling his neck. Their circumstances could be better but Tim would fight tooth and nail for more nights like this.

Despite spending most of the night restless, Tim finally found sleep.
