As they stood there waiting for the terrible boy to arrive and control his pets, Isshin thought about his life and the choices which lead to this moment. Clearly, none of this would have ever happened if he hadn’t taught Ichigo Mugetsu – teaching him that meant losing his powers which lead him to adopting all of these rabid animals. They should have used a different approach when it came to capturing Aizen and left Ichigo to be a Shinigami.
As he watched the horizon split down the middle, accompanied by what he can only described as the screams of the damned, to reveal the horrid boy – now young man – in an outfit that he had the misfortune of seeing Yuzu draw in her sketchbook reserved only for obscene images of her brother, Isshin realised that the cataclysm that had started this mess was giving Ichigo the means to unlock his powers.

There is something painfully boring in their everyday life.
Wake up, have breakfast, go to work or school, have dinner, and go to sleep. Rinse and repeat. Even with the sprinkled in interactions with friends and acquaintances it is still not enough to save them from cabin fever.
It is obvious in the way Shiro paces, body tense with energy with no proper way to release. In Tensa who half of the time locks himself in his bedroom. In Yhwach who is dismissive yet expects too much from them. In Zangetsu who tries yet always falls short.
Or maybe that’s what it’s like to have a family.

“I'm sorry." Ichigo, his Ichigo says, voice choked up with tears that he fights.
"Stay, don't leave," He answers back, voice pleading.
"I'm sorry," Ichigo repeats, voice cracking as he kneels to hug them goodbye.
"Don't leave, don't you dare leave me, Kurosaki Ichigo." He growls back, turning his fear into anger.
"I'm sorry." His Ichigo, his broken Ichigo whose smiles remind him of the sun at dawn, warbles as he loses his fight against the tears, pressing his face against their bodies. "I'm sorry."
"You can't leave! I don't allow it." He grabs him with his nails, leaving behind scratches that bead with blood. "Don't leave me!"

Summary
Some things from the past have an awful habit of digging themselves out from the soil that you bury them in (and it is especially annoying and concerning if there is a layer of concrete over it), while others will simply walk into your life wearing too much mascara and eyeliner and have lipstick on their teeth.
You can't hold onto the past forever, not when the action forces you to forget the present. But if you're lucky enough, the past will walk beside you and hold your hand. Hopefully, it's a past you agree with and have given your consent to.
