“Wait for me! Grian!”
Scott giggled as he watched Scar chasing Grian down the path to the valley, his head resting on Jimmy’s shoulder. Jimmy’s fingers carded through his hair.
Grian grinned at them when he reached their spot on the hill. He set down his bag, flopping down next to them. Scar made it over a moment later, and made a face at Grian.
They exchanged pleasantries, then Jimmy gently extracted himself from Scott to light the pile of wood he had gathered earlier. Scott shamelessly stared at his biceps as he did so, ignoring Grian’s retching noises.
The bonfire was lit, and the four of them relaxed under the stars. For once, there was no war to wage, no battles to fight. Just them, with good food and better company.
Scott brought out the bread he had baked, while Scar got to work on roasting the rabbit he and Grian had brought. Grian had snagged a bunch of sweet berries from Dogwarts territory, and Jimmy had butchered some of their animals. It wasn’t quite the grand barbecue they might have had on Empires or Hermitcraft, but it was still good. For this server, it was incredible.
“This is nice, yeah?” Jimmy nudged him. Scott hummed an affirmation, leaning back on his shoulder.
Grian spoke up. “We should do this again some time. Like, when we’re not in the middle of a war.”
Scar laughed a little. “Isn’t that the Jewish tradition? I think Rabbi Akiva would be proud of us.”
“Oh, I’m sure,” Jimmy snorted.
“Shall we count?” Scott asked.
They said the blessing and did the count. Grian shifted to lie down in Scar’s lap. Scar looked fond, running his fingers through Grian’s hair. Scott snorted to himself. Not together, huh?
They talked for hours, about everything and nothing. By the time they decided to go to bed, the fire had long since gone out.
Scar took Grian on his back to Jimmy’s house to spend the night, while Jimmy carried Scott bridal-style to his house.
They curled up in bed together, and the last thing Scott thought of before he fell asleep, was how lucky he was to have such an amazing husband and great friends, even in this awful world.
