The mer down there exist in a void, where voice is lost and the only light to be found is from predators using bioluminescence as a lure. You will live and die in the darkness, the black depths of the trenches making up your home.

Floyd wondered sometimes, what had happened to the boy he’d been made to become. If he’d just gotten bored one day and simply vanished into the ether, or if he’d swum a little too far and never made it back home. It didn’t matter anymore. There was no place for him now, since Floyd had so neatly filled in the nooks and crannies where he used to be.
