Work Text:

Emi was very hard to unnerve or scare. This situation was no different.

The man in front of her was just another villain, albeit a national wanted one who has committed a rainbow of crimes. Huh, a rainbow of crimes. That’s a fun expression, she’d have to copyright that.

Though, it was hard to think of rainbows or smiling or puppies in the concrete cell they were in. It was a holding cell that she would have to supervise the villain in until the Tatarus people came to pick him up.

Might as well have some fun!

“Why the mask? It’s not like you’re horribly mutilated, like most villains who wear masks. Though, some of your comrades really should start wearing some, right?”

“I’ll tell you if you give it back.” Twice said, putting his head on the table. “ Mental issues, lol. ” He then slams his head back on the table, groaning.

“No can do, buddy. We need that for evidence!” Ms. Joke smiles, even though she felt bad for the man. I mean, who wouldn’t? Even though her earlier comment might not portray it, his face was a tad bit scarier than most faces. It was mostly due to his big eyes. Something about them just rubbed her the wrong way.  Oh, and the whole scar thing.

“Do you know how to play chopsticks?”

“Huh?”

“You know. The finger game where- it’s like, all mathy and stuff. It’s epic. ” Twice said, nodding along to his own words.

“Uhhh… No, I haven’t. Can you teach me?” Emi said, sliding into a chair beside him.

“Okay, so you have to stick your pointer fingers out like this.” He says, pointing two fingers at her, looking at her to do the same. She copied him and stuck her fingers out.

“Now you hit the..”

“Okay, how did you master this so fast?!” Twice exclaimed. “I taught you like, 5 minutes ago, and you’re beating me in every match!”

“It’s a simple math game. You’re trapped if I do a few specific moves in the beginning.” Emi laughed. Twice laughed too. They were having fun, despite being trapped in a concrete box. Well, Twice was trapped. Emi wasn’t.

“So, why’d you become a hero?”

“I liked making people smile! And I noticed that heroes are always making people smile. So, I went to High School and met Shou and Zashi and then I became a Hero! Now I’m also a teacher, so I can make twice as many people happy!”

“Wow. That’s a lot of a cooler reason than me becoming a villain. I have the coolest reason ever! I was just lonely and wanted friends.”

“There’s better ways of making friends than joining a villain group, y’know.”

“Of course I knew that. But I was already wanted, and also very really insane, so… It was kinda the best option for me. It’s Giran’s fault.

“Who’s Giran?”

“Oops. I shouldn’t have said anything, ignore me. The League’s broker, ya idiot. Shut up, me! He’s also one of my best friends ever!

“Huh. Can you tell me more about him? He sounds like a cool guy!”

Of course she felt bad for exploiting this obviously struggling man. He looked a lot worse than when they were playing chopsticks together. And he was contradicting himself a lot more. But.. It would be so useful to the heroes if they got this information!

And she could help more people smile.

“Please? We’re friends, aren’t we?” She smiled, a nice, soft smile. A soft smile she had used on many-a-villain before. And it worked every time.

“Well.. He’s got silver hair, and a gap in his tooth. Knowing him, he probably got it knocked out on purpose  so that he could hold his cigar better. That’s how we met, actually. Smoking over a bar.”

“Interesting. What’s his house like?” This was her indirect way of learning more information. He seemed like the type to accidentally slip an address into conversation.

“Huh? Why do you ask?”

“Uh. I usually ask people what their houses are like, ‘cause it tells me about their character!”

“Oh. Well, he just sleeps in his office. Cause that’s his house. It’s like a wooden cabin in the woods. Sometimes. It’s also a small urban house. It looks like he stole it from an american!

“Interesting. What kinda business-”

“Are you using me?”

Crap. She had overstepped.

“What-? No, I would never!”

“You heroes.. Why would I ever try to trust you?”

Suddenly, the door opened. A Tatarus guard came in. He quickly pulled Emi out of the room.

“Hey! Let me go!”

“Talking to prisoners without permission is prohibited. He is now a prisoner. Please leave.”

She glared at him, before walking away, ignoring Twice’s pleas for help. She would just have to forget about that villain. For now, atleast.
