Work Text:
James was surprised his mom hadn't caught on to the fact he'd been harboring a kitten in his room. He figured he would've been caught eventually for a number of reasons.
Then again, with her alcoholism, she never was too attentive to him anyway, her behavior often crossing the line over into neglect.
Regardless, he was glad that he hadn't been caught.
The kitten had been a stray, separated from her mother and stranded alone in the streets. The poor thing was helpless and surely wouldn't have survived alone, and James couldn't stomach leaving her, so he took her home.
She was very friendly and always curled up on his chest when he went to bed.
He changed out of his day clothes and put on his pajamas, making sure the kitten was still on the bed whenever he looked over.
He brushed his teeth with the little thing standing on his shoulder and, when he finally got in bed, she immediately leaped up onto his chest, curling into a ball and dozing off.
If anything ever happened to that sweet little angel, James would absolutely murder the perpetrator.
