Chapter Text
The first time it happened, Ed wasn’t expecting it. It was early in the days after his Player System appeared, and he wasn’t quite used to keeping track of all the little details yet.
He had hitched a ride in Mustang’s car, and thoughtlessly left the Menu button on the seat beside him. When he got out and slammed the door, the button stayed resting innocently on the seat.
But Ed sure remembered that button just a few moments later, when Mustang drove off. Just as the car began to turn around the corner at the end of the block, he felt a sharp jerk on his torso, and suddenly found himself running desperately to keep up with the car before the tether tying him to the button dragged him along the road by force.
Thankfully, the button was also loud enough when it smacked against the window that it caught Mustang’s attention. He saw Ed running after him, and stopped the car.
Ed was a lot more careful about where he left his button after that. Well…except when he wasn’t.
See, when you’re in the middle of chasing down a suspect, and they hop into a vehicle, it tends to give them an unfair advantage. However, if you have equippable roller skates in your inventory and a Menu Button that’s tethered to you at all times at your disposal…
It gives you a few more options!
By the third time Ed wound up zipping down the street after his latest target, going inhumanly fast due to throwing his Menu Button in the window of the person’s getaway car, Mustang’s team had worked out a protocol for what to do when something like this happened.
It was called, “Drive Up Alongside Him And Let Him Ride On The Side Of The Car So He Doesn’t Break His Neck For Pete’s Sake.”
