Chapter Text
In and out. That was all it was supposed to be. Check the place out and leave before getting caught. It was simple, Quinn knew this. As they crept through the abandoned entry way, they found a back entry way that opened up for them. Strange. They entered, searching around for any security cameras. Everything was trashed and covered in a thick layer of dust. God, they could feel their allergies acting up just entering the room. They turned on their flashlight, looking at the overturned furniture and tables. Wow, this place had really fallen apart since they had been there. But, in the park’s defense, Quinn was a child when they visited and their memories of the place were far and few. Either way, it had been a long time since they roamed the colorful halls and passageways of Indigo Park. Suddenly a bright light illuminated the room, followed immediately by a loud, squeaky voice.
“Hi there! And welcome to Indigo Park! The world's most innovative and engaging family fun experience!” Quinn quickly turned around to the sudden noise, adrenaline rushing through them. Behind them was a raccoon with purple eyes and a red bandana tied around their neck, dancing around on a tilted TV screen.
“Jump into the world of your favorite character-” The TV began to glitch and buffer then the Raccoon appeared at the very front of the screen, almost as if it were staring straight at Quinn.
“Wait, you’re our first guest in 2,894 days, 4 hours, 23 minutes and 38 seconds. Congratulations!” Quinn slowly began to approach the screen, curious on whether or not it was actually talking to them. All the while, the little raccoon continued to dance across the screen.
“I’m Rambley. Rambley the Raccoon. And it’s my job to make sure your experience at Indigo Park is the most fun it could be!” Quinn decided it must be some sort of automated message and shoved their hands in their pockets, suddenly a bit bored at the display.
“Just hop over to the Registration Center, to your left, where our friendly assistant will help you begin your adventure in the park.” Funny, they didn't remember bringing along a flash drive for their little late night adventure. Once the raccoon finished, the television promptly shut off. Quinn followed Rambley’s instructions, looking to their left. A computer. Jackpot. They began to walk over there, pulling out the flash drive as they went. They stood in front of two dusty monitors, the screens lighting up with life again, the cartoonish raccoon entering the screen on the left.
“I’m Rambley, Rambley the Raccoon, and it’s my job to make sure your experience here at Indigo Park is-'' The computer began to glitch momentarily before skipping to end of the dialogue, him finishing off with a cheerful, “registered!” Although, Quinn couldn’t have cared less about what he said, much more focused on the flash drive in their hand.
“Let me just get a good look at you… Wait, what are you doing?” Quinn had completely drowned out Rambley’s question, looking for a USB port. Thankfully, it wasn’t long before they found one, taking the USB in hand to insert it into the monitor. The raccoon began to frantically bounce around the screen, trying to get them to pay attention and not insert the drive.
“Hey! You’re not allowed to-” Rambley’s protesting was quickly cut off by a uploading screen. Quinn starred in astonishment and mild amusement. Wow, it actually worked. This wasn’t at all what they had planned when they were going to break into Indigo Park, but now they were downloading a park mascot. The screen lit up, showing that the upload was complete. They pulled out the flash drive, staring at it in confusion.
“Do I just have an AI on my flash drive now? How?” Suddenly, there were sirens heard off in the distance. Their heart jumped. Quinn quickly shoved the flash drive into their pocket and held their bag close to their body for more agility. After all, they weren’t here trying to get caught.
…
Closing the door behind them, they let out a huff at the small rush of adrenaline rushing through their body. Definitely not what Quinn was expecting when they were going to go explore an abandoned amusement park. They sat down at their desk, slinging their bag over their chair and pulling out the flash drive they had brought with them. They stared at it with immense curiosity before shrugging, letting their impulsive thoughts win once more. It has worked out well enough for them so far. Quinn plugged the flash drive into their computer.
“I… I kinda feel bad just leaving him in the flash drive.” The downloading window popped up on the screen, seemingly transferring the AI that Quinn had forgotten the name off onto their computer. A small spike of anxiety ran up their spine as they watched the spinning circle inside the purple icon. Something itched at the back of their mind, telling them that this was a bad idea. That they should have tried to at least put the little raccoon guy back before turning tail to run. But it seemed strange to worry about something so harmless. They spun around in their chair, trying to diminish the adrenaline from running away from the cops. But, to be fair, it turned out they were chasing a suspicious car and not coming to arrest some random teen for trespassing at an abandoned theme park. They stopped spinning, looking back at that little download pop-up, a little amused laugh bubbling up.
“I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?” Download complete.
“-to touch… that…” The raccoon character seemed concerned but that was quickly followed by confusion as they checked their surroundings. Quinn's monitor background of a simple landscape was certainly a change from the bright colors normally found in Indigo Park, the change seemingly stunning the Raccoon.
“One moment.” Another pop up appeared on Quinn’s monitor, covering the face of the raccoon. Rambley.ai is accessing your webcam.
