Maybe the Treasure was the Friends We Made Along the Way

Summary:

Jacob English, a historian and archeologist from Great Britain, goes on an adventure to find treasure. Simple enough, right? Unfortunately, he is in the United States. Specifically, in the Western Frontier; "cowboy" territory. English is completely out of his comfort zone when it comes to searching for ancient rings in a seemingly endless desert with sparse towns and way too many hostile animals.

Good thing he stumbles across a well travelled cowboy! Though Dirk Strider is stoic and doesn't really want to help Jake out, he decides to hang around anyways.

Just a normal cowboy treasure hunt. No wacky adventures or situations at all... hopefully

Chapter 1: Prologue

And so it begins

Chapter Text

Prologue ==>

           The well known age of the American Frontier; also remembered as the Wild West. An era of adventure, iconic for its tales, and most importantly, cowboys. All kinds of people from all over the world journeyed to the Wild West to search for a way to become famous or for a way to become rich. It was a time of both selfishness and companionship.

           Treasure and riches provided a worthy motivator for selfishness. Dozens upon dozens of travelers and even average people traveled to the vast frontier to search for their claim to fame. If there is one thing that is certain about all humans, it is that they cannot resist the myth of wealth.

           It started off simple. All I came here for was to find treasure, make a fortune, propose to the maiden I met a mere week ago that was clearly head over heels for me, never have to fret another day of my life, and live gayly and comfortably off of the riches I gained. I didn’t expect for my plan to go completely awry and to only achieve part of my dream. But I suppose that is what comes with being here. Stories I have heard of the American Frontier range from impressive tales of glory to tragic tales of shame and defeat. Frankly, I had no idea what to expect going into my journey. But that is the adventure part of it, right?
