Cake

Summary:

Charlie finds Adam baking a cake... or, well, attempting to bake one. Everything is burnt and exploded and Charlie needs to have a chat.

Notes:

Adam's nickname for Lucifer is Apple!
These two are strictly platonic, I love to imagine their relationship once Adam's more comfortable

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Cake

Chapter Text

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Charlie rubs her eyes as she wakes up to the sound of the smoke alarm going off in the hotel. “The smoke alarm…?"

"Ah! The smoke alarm!” Charlie throws herself out of bed and scrambles down the stairs, screeching to a stop in the kitchen. “Adam,” she shouts, horrified. “What did you do!?!”

Alas, in front of Charlie was a sight worse than Hell itself. White specks everywhere, red dye spread across the room and a giant, burning explosion from the oven. Adam has blisters on his hands and the sink is nearly overflowing. “Uh…Sup.” Adam responds with a smile. “Don’t mind the fuckin’ mess I just…uh… was baking.”

Charlie’s eye twitches, but she breathes calmly and walks forward with long strides. “Adam, what happened here? Why is everything here absolutely destroyed?” Charlie puts her hands on her hips and looks around the room again. “I mean,” Adam begins. “It’s better than the fucking wall blowing up!” Adam crosses his arms and leans on the kitchen counter. “I…guess so,” Charlie grumbles. The blonde runs over to the sink and turns it off before any more water drips onto the floor. “Oh, yuck! It smells like shit over here, Adam! What were you trying to make?!”

“A cake, dumbass! Isn’t it obvious?” Charlie looks at the pan that’s slightly out of the oven and the pitch-black crumbs that line the edges. “Not really,” she responds softly. “No offense.” Adam scoffs and throws the pan from the oven to the otherside of the hotel. “Adam! What was that for,” Charlie questions with anger. “You could’ve gotten someone hurt!”

“Nu-uh!”

“Wha– what do you mean ‘nu-uh’? If someone was walking–”

“But no one was! Geez, get off my ass, bitch.” Adam starts sulking, but walks over to the pan anyways. He flinches when trying to ball up his fists, alerting Charlie that something’s off.

“Adam.” Charlie grabs his arm and pulls him back towards her. “Are you okay? What’s wrong with your hands?” She tries to pull his hands up to her, but he shoves the blonde away and brings his hands back to his chest. “I’m fucking fine, Charlie! They’re just a bit burned, it’s not a fucking problem,” Adam shouts, shoving a hand in front of Charlie’s face. Charlie gasps at the blisters and grabs Adam’s wrist, pulling him forward again. “What happened?! Oh, no, you didn’t do this on purpose, did you? Oh, Adam, I’m so so soooo sorry! Do you need to talk about anything because I’m here! I’m always ava–”

“Woah, bitch, calm down!” Adam pulls away and rubs his wrist. “I didn’t fucking hurt myself on purpose! I wasn’t fucking thinking and pulled out the pan with my bare hands!” Adam blushes and crosses his arms. “It was a fucking mistake. I’ve been… I’ve been making a fucking lot of those ever since I’ve come to this shithole.”

Adam’s eyes narrow and he turns away from Charlie as fast as he can. “Oh, Adam,” Charlie responds with concern. She walks in front of him and rubs his shoulder. “It’ll be okay! We all make mistakes down here and–”

“NO! Shut the fuck up, Charlie!” Adam shoves her away and scratches his head, the friction causing his blisters to burn. “AH, DAMNIT,” he shouts. “This is why women should do all the fucking baking! I can’t do this shit without hurting myself!” Adam runs to the pan and kicks it out the window, yelling at it.

Charlie steps back a bit and breathes before walking over to a sulking Adam. “Maaaybe turn down the misogyny a bit…” Charlie mumbles, sitting down next to Adam, who’s curled up in a ball.

“Adam,” Charlie begins. “Calm down, it’s okay. Why don’t you get someone to help you bake next time? I’m sure my dad would like to help you!” Adam stays silent for a few seconds before mumbling something into his arms. “Huh? What’s up, Adam?”

“... I said I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of your father!” Adam angrily shouts, lifting his head up. “I’m trying because last time I tried to do something for him I fucked it up and he started laughing at me! I’m not having that shit happen again! Hell. No,” Adam buries his face again and turns his body away from Charlie, sighing.

Charlie begins to giggle, alerting Adam. He sticks his head back up and snaps his head to glare at Charlie. “What the fuck!? You too, now,” Adam shouts. Charlie shakes her head and looks at Adam with a wide smile. “You care!”

“What?”

“You care for my dad! You’re trying so hard to make him proud of you…” Charlie shifts towards Adam and leans up to his face.

“You like him, don’t you~” Charlie teases.

“...Go fuck yourself, Charlie.”

“EEEHEHE,” Charlie squeals. “Geez, woman, calm fucking down!” Adam covers his ears as Charlie jumps up and down. “I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! Oh, this is perfect! I’ll help you find all the best spots and and and…” Charlie begins to drone on about the different places and things Lucifer likes and Adam curls up, listening to every word she says.

Charlie takes a big breath in and exhales heavily. “And that should be all! I’m sure that he’ll love anything and everything I mentioned! Also, also!” Charlie swoops down to Adam. “Sometimes all you need is a little conversation to make him fall in love with you!” Charlie winks and Adam rolls his eyes.

“I’m straight,” Adam replies, sternly. Charlie blinks rapidly.

“You’re what?”
