Work Text:
“Send me the address. I'll come pick you up.” Zayne's voice came from the speaker of your phone.
You slightly pause, just hearing that he'll be coming over to pick you up, suddenly makes your heart race. But knowing that he's a busy man, and should still be on his shift at the hospital made you decline.
“No, it's okay. I'll just get another driver.” You tell him, as you send your driver an apology message before canceling your ride on the app.
“I'm getting off work. I'll treat it as a 10 minute part time job.” He tells you, on the other end of the line you could hear sudden movement and rustling. Definitely you were sure that he was rushing out of his office. You could hear him quickly telling his staff to monitor and double check his patients since he'll be clocking out of work early.
You could feel the alcohol kicking in a bit now, with all the mishaps that happened in just a span of a few minutes, despite not wanting to admit it… you were indeed drunk. Knowing that Zayne wouldn't allow you to say no to him for picking you up and especially at this ungodly time. Also you really want someone you trust to take you home, since you were not in the right mind. With the last ounce of you being able to think straight, you decided to give in.
Hearing the sound of the car door being opened at the end of the line, you decided to break the silence, “Oh… How much do you charge? I'll pay you…”
“No need. You're my first customer so it's free.”
“I really can't let a handsome driver go empty handed… what can I do for you sir?”
A sigh escapes his lips, “It seems the alcohol has gotten the better of you. We'll talk about that when you're sober… for now, please send me your location and don't end the call.”
Obediently you do as you were told, sending him your GPS location and keeping the line open for him.
“Alright, I'll be there in 10 to 15 minutes.”
You slumped down on the bench behind you, “Okay sir! I'll be waiting for you here. Please take care on your way… I won’t go anywhere.”
The line goes quiet for a few seconds, and Zayne quietly responds back “I will…”
While waiting, you would just ramble on about random topics to keep you preoccupied, while Zayne would occasionally answer back or chuckle in response to your nonsense. True to his words, it was just past 10 minutes, a familiar car came into view and pulled up near you with the window open.
A grin spreads on your face as you see Zayne looking at you.
“Get in.”
Quickly standing up you wobble a few steps before pausing, your vision is now spinning, causing you to suddenly feel nauseous. Instead you clamped a hand over your mouth and once again clumsily returned to the bench to sit down, throwing your head back on the head rest to try and see if the spinning sensation would stop while forcing yourself to bring down the sudden uncomfortable feeling rising from your stomach going into your throat. Making sure not to vomit in front of your childhood friend -slash- crush.
You could hear the car door hastily open and close, the sound of his quick footsteps nearing you, with each step making your heart race. It felt like time stopped as his face came into sight, looking down at you with a concerned expression while you gave him a guilty laugh.
“Not drunk you say?” Zayne started, his arms crossed as he intently looked at you. “My patient can't walk properly, feeling nauseous, face is red like a tomato, can't talk properly and now is a laughing maniac.” He states, leaning down so he could get a closer look at your face.
Making a small huff sound, your cheeks cutely puff up before giving him a pout. Zayne's eyes filled with mirth widened a bit, his ears turning red, and the tip of his lips slightly curving upward in amusement. He pulls away, looking away to hide his smile before pinching the bridge of his nose.
“You're such a troublemaker.”
With that he suddenly disappears from your line of sight, and you could feel his hands on your ankle. A ticklish sensation is felt, and all you could do was giggle before trying to kick your feet away from his hands.
“Stop squirming, how can I take off your heels if you keep kicking?”
“Dr. Zayne… it's too… ticklish.” You weakly say in between laughters, “Touching my feet… shouldn't that mean… you have to take responsibility and marry me?”
In the midst of your kicking, Zayne was able to firmly grab a hold of your foot.
“I was sure it was supposed to be the hand in that old saying. But I'm still willing to take responsibility, as long as it's you.” With that he successfully pulls off your heel, and quickly moves onto your other foot.
You weren't sure if your brain had processed what he said correctly, or if it was just playing tricks with you.
“Huh? Did I hear you correctly?”
Zayne successfully takes off the other heel, and stands up to once again take a good look at you with your heels successfully hooked on his fingers. A playful smirk now on his face.
“That's up to you if you heard it right or not. I'm not repeating it twice.”
Hence another pout comes upon your face, and he gives a chuckle in response.
“Alright Ms. Troublemaker, it's time to bring you home.” A hand slips at the small of your back, while an arm goes behind your knees. With ease, Zayne was able to gently hoist you up.
In a low voice he tells you, “Put your arms around my neck, and don't move around too much. I'll carry you to the car.”
You do as you were told, burying your head in the crook of his neck. The man really smells so damn good, and you take a deep breath taking in his scent. He shudders as he feels your nose moving along the side of his neck.
Pulling your head away, you hazily look him in the eye, “Dr. Zayne, you really smell so fucking good.”
Your statement catches him off guard, his ears fully crimson, and he turns his head away to hide the smile creeping up on his face.
Unfortunately he couldn’t regain his composure, the smile on his face was evident. “Thank you… but please watch your language young lady.”
Another burst of laughter erupted from you. With a gentle smile still plastered on his face, Zayne watched you as he carried you towards his car.
Zayne pauses in front of the car door, he kind of looks troubled for a bit before meeting your gaze. “Can you do me a favor?” He asks, you tilt your head a bit to the side to look at him.
“My hands are preoccupied, can you open the car door for me please?”
You cutely blinked at him before turning your head towards the car. Unwrapping one of your arms from his neck and reaching out to take hold of the car’s door handle. Zayne helps you by taking a step back in order for you to pull the car door open.
He gently places you in the passenger seat, adjusting the seat for you to be comfortable. Looking over at your bare feet touching the carpeted floor, he mentally notes to himself that he should buy you a spare slipper to use in the car.
Taking hold of the seat belt, he secures you in place before opening a small compartment to take out a plastic bag and hand it over to you.
“In case you need to throw up.”
All you could do was grumble a thanks before he closes the door, and settles himself into the driver seat.
Zayne made sure you were comfortable during the whole ride back home. He drove at a slower pace and made sure the windows were rolled down, giving you fresh air.
It takes a while before the car finally arrives at your apartment’s parking lot. Once again Zayne carries you to your unit, he doesn't put you down as he slips off his shoes at the entrance. He finally carries you over to the couch and your embrace around his neck tightens.
You don't budge as you bury your head into the crook of his neck. “I want to stay in your arms a little longer.” you murmured.
A sigh escapes his lips, “You should be getting ready to bed.”
You shake your head, clinging even more to him. “I want you to stay with me much longer… please sit down.”
Reluctantly Zayne obliged and sat down with you still in his arms. Pulling yourself slightly away, you take a good look at him. Giving him a cheeky smile as you place both your hands on his face and rubbed his cheeks.
“Dr. Zayne, you really are so handsome.”
Zayne's eyes slightly widened in surprise, and another shy smile slowly spread on his face.
“I really can't let you go home without paying for your service.”
With that you pressed a kiss on his cheek, your lipstick leaving a lip mark. Seeing his surprised expression, you burst out laughing. “You're really so cute.”
Aside from his burning ears, his cheeks were slowly turning red and he couldn't look at you straight. It takes a while before he is able to regain composure, clearing his throat and as he throws you a pointed look.
“You're really drunk. How many did you drink?”
“A few.” You tell him.
“It really doesn't seem to be a few.” With that he pinches your cheeks and you throw him a playful glare before a guilty smile replaces your pout.
The man raises one of his eyebrows at you, before lifting one of his hands to move a stray hair away from your face.
“Dr. Zayne, why don’t you have a girlfriend?” You suddenly asked, your hands on both sides of his face. “You’re handsome, I’m sure that you’ve been receiving love letters.”
Zayne takes a good look at you, “I have someone I like.” He tells you and suddenly it was hard to maintain a smile on your face. Hearing that he already has someone he likes made you feel upset.
“Oh… she’s so lucky. Who is it? Yvonne?” You asked, as you snuggle up against Zayne.
A heavy sigh escapes his lips, a frown was evident on his face. “No, it’s not Yvonne…” He states, before quietly murmuring “I can’t believe you’re this dense.”
The feeling of sleepiness was starting to sink as your eyes felt heavy, “Why don’t you ask her out?” You sleepily asked.
Zayne stiffens a bit, he doesn’t say anything at first as he starts carefully thinking of what to say to you. “I don’t want to lose her.”
Lifting your head, you give him a confused look and he returns back your gaze.
He sighs, contemplating if he should ask you a personal question while you are drunk.
“Then let me ask you a question… Do you like someone?” Zayne asked.
Once again you return your head in the crook of his neck, hiding your now crimson face as you laugh before answering him truthfully. “Yes. It’s you, silly.”
It felt like the whole world stopped for Zayne. Despite keeping a calm expression on his face, his heart felt like it was going to burst out of his chest with how fast it was beating. His whole face now dusted in red after hearing your confession.
To be honest, this was not how he expected to find out about your feelings about him. As a gentleman, he doesn’t want to take further advantage of you while you're drunk.
Zayne doesn’t answer your confession, but tells you “I plan to ask her out for dinner tomorrow night, but it seems she’s not yet sober and still drunk.”
You don’t stir and respond to him, indicating that you had given in to your sleepiness. Shaking his head, a smile comes up on his face as he decides to let you be and lay you down on the couch. He takes a wet washcloth to clean your face and arms.
Before leaving your unit, he writes down a note and sticks it on top of your phone.
You groggily wake up on the couch with a bad migraine, your vision is still slightly spinning. It takes a while before you slowly sit up, taking a good look around and confirm that you were indeed back in your own unit.
Seeing a big sticky note stuck on the top of your phone, you peel it off and read the note aloud.
“Make sure to drink honey water to get rid of your hangover. Also my service charge for yesterday's ride is to join me for dinner tonight at 6PM, Zayne.”
So Zayne really did pick you up last night. Unfortunately you were too inebriated last night, so you have no idea what you did last night. Hopefully you didn't do anything to annoy or scare your childhood friend.
You're someone who can recall several things the following morning when you think hard about them. It takes a while before memories of you obnoxiously laughing, you boldly taking a hold of Zayne's face, and you confessing your feelings to him, came rushing in.
A groan escapes your lips, your face now burning red due to embarrassment as you palmed your face before aggressively rubbing it and flopping yourself back down onto the couch. All you wanted was the ground to open up and swallow you whole.
Now you have to think about how to not make this dinner go through tonight. Your phone chimes, notifying you have a message and it was from Zayne.
Zayne 10:56AM
Awake? Make sure to drink honey water, and don't try to bail out on me tonight. You still owe me.
It's like the man could tell that you were planning to make excuses, so definitely you need to suck it up and meet him later.
Little did you know that meeting him for dinner became the best time of your life as both of you confessed and confirmed your relationship that night.
