Chapter Text

Sunday mornings were your favourite
I used to meet you down on Woods Creek Road
You did your hair up like you were famous
Even though it's only church where we were goin'

For the most part it had been a pretty normal day for the students of 1976 whom attended Hogwarts. The school was crowded into the Great Hall for dinner, people laughing with their friends and telling jokes about their day. Lessons were over for that day, homework forgotten about until the last minute (unless you were a Ravenclaw in which case it had already been done).
Nothing was out of the ordinary.
“Oi Evans! Go out with me?” a messy black haired boy called from where he sat with his group of friends.
“For the last time Potter, no!” a ginger haired girl called from where she sat herself with her group of friends, rolling her eyes and shaking her head in exasperation. He would never learn nor listen.
“Seriously James, don’t you think it’s time to let her go?” asked a boy with scars covering his face who was sat within the group of friends.
“Don’t be daft Remus, he’s been obsessed with her since he saw her on the platform when he was eleven and has chased after her ever since” a charming boy said, “I don’t think he could turn away now even if he tried”
James didn’t know whether to be offended or not so decided he would just shrug it off.
“She’s close to realising we’re destined for each other” James smirked, “just watch this year will be the year she finally decides to say yes”
“Is that… delusion I hear Padfoot?” Remus stage whispered, turning to Sirius as though James wasn’t sat right next to him and could hear every word.
“I fear it is Moony” Sirius joined in, laughing when he saw James roll his eyes and act as though the two had betrayed him.
“Sod off both of you, Wormy here thinks it’ll be the year don’t you?”
A rather pudgy boy sat next to Sirius looked up from where he was stuffing his face with a chicken drumstick, the drumstick hanging from his mouth as he glanced up wide eyed. He looked as though he had been caught sneaking cookies out of a cookie jar.
“Huh?”
James, Sirius and Remus took one look at their friend before bursting into laughter.
Over at the Slytherin table, Sirius’ younger brother Regulus looked on at the scene with a passive expression. He’d long since given up in trying to convince himself that he didn’t care about his brother. He’d given up acting as though he wasn’t jealous of Potter whom had somehow managed to worm his way into Sirius’ heart and replaced him as the brother Sirius had always wanted.
Regulus admitted to those feelings now… he just didn’t let anyone see that he had. His pureblood mask up stronger than ever.
Nobody had to know.
“Regulus if you glare anymore at Sirius you’re going to burn a hole into his head” Evan Rosier stated, converting his friend’s attention onto him.
“Isn’t it obvious that that’s his aim?” Barty Crouch Jr laughed, Regulus rolling his eyes in response to both of them.
“I was merely glaring at the blood traitors and how comfortable they are” Regulus responded,
“Honestly, it’s disgusting” Rabastian LeStrange nodded, “look at the leader and his stupid bloody twinkle”
Rabastian was of course talking about Albus Dumbledore and his blue eyes that always seemed to know more than everyone else. They were currently surveying the scene playing out in the Great Hall in front of him, glancing around at everyone with almost a smirk plastered on his face though Dumbledore couldn’t possibly be smirking. It was too out of character for the old man.
Not that Regulus cared, he didn’t trust the man as far as he could hold him.
It was at that moment that the Great Hall doors burst open to allow for a swarm of people who never would have been caught dead in each other’s company usually. Regulus could already see the glares and anger that was radiating off his mother, Walburga Black at being in such close proximity to the Potters and Tonks. Ministry officials including Amelia Bones who Regulus could admit was a legend even if she was going after people in his family. Along side Amelia were the Malfoys, Regulus’ cousin Lucius and his newly wedded wife Narcissa.
Regulus was so confused.
“Dumbledore! What is the meaning of this?!” Walburga exclaimed, unable to hold herself in for much longer.
“My dear, whatever do you mean?” Dumbledore questioned calmly,
“Don’t ‘my dear’ my wife!” Orion snapped, “I sit down to have my dinner when I receive a letter to come to Hogwarts immediately only to appear outside moments later without any warning!”
“I assure you, I didn’t send any letter” Dumbledore replied, “how curious”
“James! Sirius! Did you two have anything to do with this?” Euphemia cried to her children, knowing their pranking habits anything was possible.
“No mum, as if I would ever willingly want to have a family reunion” Sirius replied, looking disgusted at Walburga.
“Trust me blood traitor the feeling is very much mutual” Orion sneered, earning himself a glare from Euphemia and Fleumont.
It was at that moment that a flash appeared in the hall, a letter falling out of the air and landing in front of Regulus gaining every person’s attention in the hall. Regulus himself stared at the letter in curiosity, finding the emblem sealed on to the wax strange. It was a mix of an A and an R, the calligraphy of the A eerily similar to the one he had on his upper right pectoral.
“Open it then Black” called James, bouncing in his seat as he wondered what could possibly be happening.
Regulus glared at James, carefully picking up the letter and flipping it over to see it was definitely addressed to him. Before he could break the seal of the wax, Barty had stolen the letter away attempting to open it. It was clear the Barty’s curiosity and impatience had overridden his manners, his fingers fiddling to undo the wax only for him to be blasted backwards, hitting the wall behind him as the letter floated back over to Regulus.
Regulus opened the letter himself, now more suspicious as Barty groaned behind him, trudging to his seat.
“I don’t recognise that emblem” Evan stated, Regulus not responding as he began to read the letter aloud.
“Dear 1977,
By this time, people relevant to this would have been summoned to the Hall whether by their own will or not. You will all also be wondering what the Hell is going on.
We have brought you all here to watch the life of Astra Gilbert, Regulus Black’s soulmate. Knowing that you are starting to feel hopeless about your situation with the war brewing and being forced into a side you don’t want to be on we have decided to show you that the future is worth fighting for and possibly save some lives along the way is an added bonus.
Time will be stuck on a continuous loop until the show ends and the Great Hall will transform into a more comfortable situation. You will not be able to use magic for the time being unless you are Amelia Bones, Regulus Black or Minerva McGonagall. I also suggest that you take notes Amelia Bones on anything that happens, for the people suspected now are currently breaking the law.
Hope you enjoy it and Regulus she truly is something,
Lady Magic”
Regulus stared at the parchment in his hands in shock, many others joining in the stares. Soulmates were not unheard of in the wizarding world though they were incredibly rare. The Prince of Slytherin to have one was even more surprising since you normally would have had to do a heroic act to have deserved one.
“Reg you have a soulmate?” Sirius finally broke the silence from where he sat.
“Evidently” Regulus answered back shortly.
It was then that he seemed to have been somewhat saved by the bell as the Hall began to transform. Sofas and beanbags replaced the long benches, the tables being pushed to the side with some snack food replacing the previous dinner that had littered the surface. Regulus sat with the group of adults who had been called in, looking over as Nymphadora Tonks hair began to switch colours as she babbled to his cousin Andromeda. His friends from Slytherin along side Sirius’ band of bambling baboons and the apple of James Potter’s eye Lily Evans with her friends.
It was clear that this group was going to be important in whatever Regulus was about to watch. He could hardly believe it himself, he was about to see his soulmate, the person whom he had imagined and wondered about since he had noticed the letter tattooed on his chest when he was four. Regulus had spent nights tracing the A promising to himself that he would never let her in his life while he was stuck with Walburga and Orion.
He’d imagined how they would look, the bell that would be her laugh, her smile that was reserved for him alone. He had imagined how they would dress, act, the friends he would be forced to impress to even think about dating her. He had imagined the life they would lead, hell, he had even imagined the house they would live in, the summer wedding they would share and the kids they would have.
Regulus had thought about it all and now he was about to see just how much of it he was right about.
He wasn’t sure if he was shitting bricks or excited but it would seem he had no choice as a projector of sorts unravelled itself from where the previous table had been where the professors would sit and eat.
Words flashing across the screen and Regulus felt his heart stop.
The Vampire Diaries
Why did it say anything about vampires?
