Work Text:
The thing about one of them getting hurt, is that the injury will (to a lesser extent) carry over to Four, should they put themselves back together. So the leg Green has broken in three places一ow一would probably be a leg broken in one place. Which is not great, for the whole idea of getting places. Or doing stuff. Or making it back to camp.
Luckily, the Colors have a trick up their sleeves (so to speak).
“Okay, just be careful,” Red frets, as his brother leans on him, using him as a crutch, his other side supported by Vio as he hops on one leg toward the small but powerful beacon on magic at the base of a nearby tree.
Green flashes what is probably supposed to be a reassuring smile. “I am always careful, don’t worry about it.”
Vio and Red exchange a look. A super fun loaded look where they both know exactly what it is that they would like to say but have to go without saying because if they did in fact say it, it would make Green start arguing with them. And they do not want to argue, they want to get through the Minish Portal as calmly and safely as possible.
“Can you guys hurry it up?” Blue complains, sitting on the ground next to the portal and scowling at them all. I would like to maybe make it back to the others before dinner.
“Maybe you should have thought of that before you pushed Green out of a tree,” Vio deadpans.
“I didn’t push him, he slipped一”
“I did slip,” Green agrees. Then smirks. “Because you shook the branch.”
Somehow Blue’s scowl deepens, and the other three of them laugh it off. It is funny. After all the things that they have been through, all the fights that they have gotten through with nary a scratch, that this is the thing that makes them have to deal with a real injury. A normal, regular accident.
Sure, Green is in a lot of pain, but he’s also laughing, and he’s going to be fine, they just have to get him back to camp.
The three of them go through the magic portal, and the twist and shift of it jostles them some, and Green hisses, clenching his jaw against the landing impact of the ground on his feet. But he’s fine, he’s okay.
They help him hobble back out, and Blue is right where they left him, hand laying on the ground, perfectly still, palm up. It’s a bit of a lift, getting onto their brother’s hand, but they manage it.
When Blue raises his hand up, that’s where the real swooping feeling in all their stomachs comes. When the slight tug of nausea hits. But it’s fine, it is all fine and okay because Blue has them, and he is going to take it nice and steady for them.
Hopefully.
He raises his hand to be level with his shoulder and Red and Vio practically drag Green onto the fabric of their brother’s tunic. It only takes a moment more to get situated, to get comfortable, and then Green bellows, loud as he can, and still almost too quiet to hear, “All good!”
It’s a pleasant walk, all together. Blue hums to himself softly under his breath and the gentle sway of his gait. Vio pulls out a book. Red takes out some knitting that he has been apparently lugging around. Green just leans back and watches the view.
The forest canopy is a myriad of varying shades of green, and the golden light of the summer sun breaking though in a dappled display, with brief gaps of blinding blue that jumps out like a spot of incongruity. It’s nice, really. He drifts, head in Red’s lap and the rocking motion of Blue’s carefully eve stride sending him down into the sweet pain relieving embrace of unconsciousness.
He wakes at the sudden rise of noise—lots of noise in 一the form of voices that are loud and booming and all over the place. He startles, jerking upright and then instantly relaxing when he sees that it is just the cacophony of the rest of their brothers. He was out longer than he thought, Blue made it back to camp.
Should have been a few hours, really. Must have been, unless the entire camp moved closer to them or Blue walked a lot faster than he should have with three incredibly tiny passengers.
“Where are the others? We’ve been looking everywhere for you guys, what happened?”
The next five minutes are a mess. Everyone has so many opinions and questions and poor fucking Blue is doing his best not to talk too loud or jostle them, and then Rulie is a fairy and lighting down next to them and everything is bright fairy light and warmth and finally, Green no longer has a broken leg.
Now all they have to do is find the nearest portal and一
The portal (of the non Minish, time travel variety) yawns into existence right in the center of camp.
“Well, fuck.” Vio says, and well.
Yeah, that about sums up the situation.
