the art of letting go (by joining a Toralei scheme)

Summary:

The scarority girls honestly had it coming. And maybe Clawdeen wanted to have a little fun in college. It's also not really her fault her hot ghoulfriend talked to her into doing this. All of these things can and do coexist.

Notes:

a lil late in the day but before midnight!! Day 9: fluff is here! Really wanted that pun title so had to go for it! Love writing humanoid animals, actually. I'm sure there's nothing there to look into.

Work Text:

Clawdeen would usually give Toralei a piece of her mind. Or give her a kiss she wouldn't soon forget, as a threat. It was really one or the other. Where that werecat was concerned, it always had to be. Now, Clawdeen doesn't want to anger her ghoulfriend, she never wants to, but sometimes she does need a little kick in the ass to get her head back on straight. But Clawdeen couldn't always ignore the fact that Toralei looked fierce and incredibly attractive when doing morally-dubious things. Such as, shoplifting, starting fights, manipulating her way out of things, Clawdeen could go on. The current morally-dubious action involved a scarority on their campus and paint everywhere. Now, Clawdeen is usually against random acts of mischief against random people, but, according to Toralei, this group of ghouls had called her a word. A word that raised Clawdeen's hackles when it was relayed to her.

So, naturally, Clawdeen offered to help, also offering spray-paint that Howleen left in her dorm. Her sister was trying so hard to rebel, and Clawdeen admired the artistic nature in it. Which is another big reason she offered to help. Clawdeen has always wanted to try her hand at graffiti, she sees it everywhere on her rides back home for the howlidays and it's always beautiful in such a grungy way. She wants to try and get better at designing in general as well, considering that's a big part of degree. Not completely selfless reasons, but she had to find a positive in this where she could.

Toralei came over to Clawdeen's dorm room late at night, apparently having climbed to her window. Her agility and reflexes would make that task simple, which just made Clawdeen a bit more excited for the plan to come to fruition. It also reminded her of how amazing her ghoulfriend is at most things. Clawdeen was going to get her claws in her when they got back from pulling this off.

Toralei laid out everything for her, the black hoodie and yoga pants she'd be wearing (functional, yes, but at what cost?) and the entirety of the plan. Clawdeen listened a little bit at first before losing herself in her ghoulfriend's eyes, the green almost completely eclipsed by her irises growing as a purr erupted from her throat. Clawdeen chuckled at the surprised look Toralei gave at that. Her ears drooping a bit in her embarrassment. Her tail rises to flick itself in Clawdeen's face.

"Don’t you dare tell anyone about that," She purred again, the threat very much minimized by how content and excited Clawdeen could tell she was.

"About what? That you're a cat? And you purr when you're happy?" Clawdeen snapped back lightly, reaching a hand out to scratch at a spot behind Toralei's left ear that she knows her ghoulfriend enjoys. Toralei's ear flicks at the initial touch before she immediately rubbed her head against Clawdeen's gloved hand, bumping into it as if possessed. Her purring only grew louder.

"Clawdeen." She warned, a purr rumbling in her throat. "We need to go." She said this while she continued to bump her head lightly against Clawdeen's hand, as if subconsciously begging for more. At the reminder, Clawdeen removed her hand and picked up the clothes Toralei had laid out for her. She heard a groan mixed with a purr behind her that she took as a disappointed sound.

"I have a reputation to maintain," the cat added weakly, still leaning against Clawdeen's open window. Clawdeen only laughed back in response.

She gets changed fast, being a master of the quick-change at this point, and tries to walk down her hallways without looking suspicious. She stuffs her hands in hoodie as she exits, thanking the great spider god for Toralei giving her one of her hoodies, which included the earholes for hers to poke out of comfortably. It was surprisingly tough to find hoodies with those accommodations even in the monster world.

Clawdeen met Toralei outside, who had already finished scaling down the building, it's then that Clawdeen noticed, in the light of the lampposts outside of the building, that her ghoulfriend conveniently opted to wear a hoodie without sleeves, that she most likely cut off herself. It showed off her arm's adorable orange stripes and, of course, the muscle. Clawdeen smirked at her and gave her a wink for good measure before speeding forward into the night.

"Wrong way, Wolf!" Toralei called out, with caused Clawdeen to glide to a halt, the soccer shoes (cleats?) her ghoulfriend provided her with stopping her from falling on her face. Stupid Toralei and her distracting muscles. She jogged back over and grinned, her fangs showing.

"Just stretchin' my legs." She said. Toralei only smiled back at her, her tail curling the way it always did when she was pleased.

"Sure thing." She slung her arm around Clawdeen's shoulders, the wolf's right ear twitched in slight embarrassment. That was always Clawdeen's giveaway. "Let me guide you." She purred into that same ear, her breath tickling it, only causing it to twitch more.

"You are gonna be the death of me one day, I swear."

They arrived to the scarority house a little later than Toralei had apparently planned because the two had to stop to kiss a few times. Dozen. A few dozen times. At the insistence of Toralei and her looking so good with her short hair slicked back, along with her amazing muscles. She was really trying Clawdeen, looking that good. On the way there, far from it, Clawdeen felt like Boney and Clawde, and it was fun. Now, though, that she was standing in front of the haunted house they were going to vandalize, she felt guilty. She hadn’t done anything and these ghouls were absolute witches but.

"Second thoughts?" Toralei could read her like no one else. That scared but also delighted her, that they were so in tuned with each other.

"Oh yeah." She said, no use in lying. Clawdeen pulled down her hood to let her hair free. Her natural hair jumps out of her hood. It felt good to have it out while outside. She felt she was wearing a weave every other day. The wind on her head, finally able to breath, calmed her down a bit. "But I'm a wolf of my word. And these asshole witches deserve it."

Toralei's tail gave a delighted flick as she grabbed the bag of spray paint from Clawdeen's shoulder, transferring it to her more than capable arms. She pulled out a few colors and threw a few to Clawdeen.

"Good." Toralei said as they approached the door and she pulled out her pick locking tools. Clawdeen appreciated her muscles flexing with the minute movement, as well as her tongue poking out as she concentrated. She didn't get a lot of time to do so because Toralei was in within seconds. "Like taking milk from a kitten."

They unpacked everything once inside, setting down a lamp in the middle to help them see. Toralei wasted no time in painting the walls with garish colors, spelling out mocking words and symbols, including a crude drawing of herself sticking her tongue out. Clawdeen, by contrast, had a tough time deciding what she wanted to do. She stood next to a blank wall in front of her and imagined all sorts of things. All kinds of designs she wanted to map and paint out. But, if she was being real with herself, this was just a simple prank. There were no need for any Moana Lisa's here. So she psyched herself up and just went to town on covering the blank and boring wall in purples and pinks. A touch of gold here. An insult there. Maybe even a matching drawing of herself, but with a fang filled grin instead.

Clawdeen felt like she had never been more focused in her life than she was in that moment, beside her ghoulfriend, letting frustrations and pent up creativity out on the walls of an overly fancy house, that could stand to be taken down a peg or two. Clawdeen didn't even realize she was laughing until Toralei whisper-shouted at her to knock it off before they get caught. She felt so energetic, she didn't want it to end.

But, of course, one of the vampires came downstairs, probably for breakfast, and immediately witnessed the scene unfolding in her living-dead room. She gasped, over dramatically, even for Clawdeen, and chased after them, they tried to escape, but, of course, failed to outrun a vampire. She barred her fangs at them before beginning to cough heavily, her face paling even more. She excused herself to grab her morning blood before she passed out, which gave them plenty of time to run, which they did.

It was with a body full of adrenaline and fear, that they made it all the way back to Clawdeen's apartment, unharmed. Aside from being down a few cans of spray paint, everything seemed to work out. Well, other than the fact they were certainly caught and going to be reprimanded by the headmaster tomorrow. Clawdeen couldn't help but feel it was worth it anyway, especially to get to spend some extra time with her ghoulfriend, engaging in activities she likes to partake in. It felt extra nice to get back at homophobic rich witches who bad mouthed her ghoulfriend. Speaking of, Toralei seemed to be getting to leave, which Clawdeen couldn’t have.

"Stay." She said, pretty much begged, which she never did. She wasn't someone who begged. Unless it came to Toralei, apparently. Which, wow, what a ways they've come since high school. Toralei seemed surprised at Clawdeen's tone, Clawdeen was surprised herself. Toralei dropped the bag on her shoulder to the floor and grabbed Clawdeen by the shoulders, her clawing into her own hoodie, as she shoved Clawdeen onto her bed, flopping on top of her. Clawdeen groaned at the weight that was surely all muscle.

"I regret it." She wheezed out dramatically, which Toralei scoffed at. Clawdeen nuzzled into Toralei's neck regardless.

"You love me." The cat purred, the purring rumbling it's way through Clawdeen's body, warming her. She read somewhere that werecat purrs can heal. She absolutely believes it.

"I do, Triple Goddess help me, I do." Clawdeen said back, a pleased growl responding to Toralei's purrs. Toralei nuzzled into Clawdeen silently. And they stay like that, Clawdeen smiled as she remembered Toralei talking about how little sleeps she gets. She's helping her ghoulfriend get more sleep. She's helping Clawdeen as well.

They fall asleep in each other's arms and sleep all the way through till morning. Complete and utter peace. Before the chaos, of course. But one comes to accept these things as a consequence of loving Toralei. And she loves her. Oh help her, she does.
