Our Eyes and Ears

Summary:

Ten years after Amphibia, the trio now live together.

But two of them suffered some...consequences.

Notes:

So uh, hi. This is my first fic in this fandom and on this site. Just a little AU idea I had, kinda short but sweet (I’m probably not gonna do much with this AU tho, since I have other AU ideas that would be way more interesting to write about). Haven't posted any fanfics in quite some time so I'm a bit rusty but hopefully, if I have the motivation and time, I might post some more Amphibia fics in the future since I have a ton of ideas. For now, enjoy this little short oneshot! Also, feel free to give me some critiques since I definitely want to try and improve my writing. :)

Work Text:

The three of them often wondered if things would have played out differently had they come up with a better strategy when fighting King Andrias and his lord. Maybe then they wouldn’t have sustained any permanent damage like Sasha losing both her eyes (her right lost to Darcy and her left lost to Andrias when she had attempted to impulsively rescue Marcy the first time) and Marcy losing her hearing due to The Core permanently damaging her ears right when it was defeated, to the point where it made her ears literally bleed. Anne was the only one who hadn’t sustained any serious injuries besides a few scars from her battle against Andrias. Either way, what happened had happened and there wasn’t much they could do about it other than try to adjust and adapt.

Anne was in the kitchen cooking dinner, the smell of pad thai wafted through the apartment attracting her girlfriends Sasha and Marcy as they made their way out of their shared bedroom. Sasha meandered to the dining room/kitchen with Marcy beside her, their arms hooked together to make sure she didn’t run into anything. Anne couldn’t help but smile at the two, thankful that at least their sense of smell wasn’t ruined during their last battle.

“What are you smiling about, Boonchuy?” Sasha asked with a smirk, carefully taking a seat at the dining table with the aid of Marcy.

Anne’s smile widened, “How could you possibly know I’m smiling?”

“Because I know you too well, sweetheart.”

The brunette chuckled, “Well, I’m just happy whenever I see you two.”

“Aw, well aren’t you a sap.”

Anne stuck her tongue at her before realizing Sasha couldn’t actually see her doing it, though, by the wide grin she had she must’ve guessed that was the response. It was a bit of a habit they shared when one of them was teasing the other, and it never seemed to die even after Sasha had lost her eyesight.

After the food had been passed around and everybody settled in, Marcy tapped her hand on the table to get Anne’s attention.

‘Are we still watching a movie tonight?’ Marcy signed.

Both Anne and Marcy had to learn sign language to communicate more conveniently which was a bit difficult at first, at least for Anne, but they managed to get the hang of it.

‘Yeah, but let me ask Sasha first,’ Anne replied to her before turning to her other girlfriend to speak, “Marcy’s asking if you still want to watch a movie.”

Sasha snorted, “Sure, though I probably won’t be doing much watching. ”

With that, the Thai woman confirmed for Marcy to which she replied with a ‘Yay!’ Throughout the time that Anne spent living with her girlfriends, she had fallen into a rhythm of using sign language with Marcy and speaking normally to Sasha, often acting as a communicator between the two when they wanted to talk to each other specifically. At first, when she had to get used to this new normal she would mess up a bit and confuse herself at times, resulting in some awkward and rather embarrassing moments where she would be signing or speaking to the wrong girlfriend. To this day they would never let her live it down and had teased her endlessly for it.

Soon after dinner, they made their way to the couch hand in hand, both helping Sasha to the living room and also just because they wanted to hold each other close. Even though Sasha didn’t need help navigating the apartment as she completely memorized the layout in her head, unless Anne and Marcy did some rearranging which was almost never, she still appreciated the gesture.

“Okay, so what are we feeling?” Anne asked, standing by the movie cabinet and eyeing the selection.

“You know, you mentioned how Marcy’s been feeling down lately. How about something she likes?” Sasha shrugged.

Anne knew exactly what she was talking about and happily took out the movie from the shelf next to the TV and popped the disc into the VCR. Marcy, completely confused since no one asked her for her input, raised her eyebrow at her girlfriend until the screen came to life and showed the main menu for one of her favorite movies of all time, War of the Warlocks.

Marcy looked to Anne in disbelief and the Thai woman simply signed, ‘For you.’

‘You didn’t have to,’ Marcy replied.

‘We wanted to. Sasha’s idea.’

Marcy looked to the blonde who waited patiently, knowing that she and Anne were probably having a silent conversation. She smiled, ‘Tell her she’s a sweetheart.’

Anne nodded then spoke to her other girlfriend, “Marcy says you're a sweetheart.”

Sasha snorted and nuzzled the ravenette, “Well, tell her I love her and that she deserves it.”

Anne told her just that and Marcy simply kissed Sasha tenderly, conveying without words that she loved her too. They both held each other close in a loving embrace, their kiss deepening and drawing out moans.

As much as Anne would love to watch them make out for hours, she knew she had to break them up before things got a little too steamy. She tapped them both on the shoulder then signed and spoke at the same time, “How about we save the make-out session until after the movie.”

Both her girlfriends blushed and nodded, breaking away but still clinging to each other in a side hug. Anne sat beside them with Marcy in the middle and started the film, but not before making sure to turn on closed captioning. There wasn’t any visual description setting in the menu so Anne explained what was happening to the best of her ability.

After the movie had ended, Marcy looked ready to pass out as she rested her head on Sasha’s shoulder. Anne smirked at her, ‘Tired already? You’re usually very energetic when watching your favorite movie.’

Her girlfriend simply shrugged, ‘Guess I don’t have the energy I used to.’

Anne smiled sadly at that, ‘Well, just know that we’ve always loved that side of you. The energetic side, I mean.’

Marcy tiredly stared off somewhere instead of responding, an unreadable expression gracing her features. Sasha shifted in her seat at the long lack of speaking, “So, can I ask what you guys are talking about?”

“Marcy’s tired and claiming that she ‘doesn’t have the energy she used to’.”

“Ha! Sure, maybe not outside of bed,” Sasha smirked knowingly.

Anne let out an exasperated groan, “Oh my god, really Sash?”

“Oh come on, Boonchuy. You were thinking it too,” Sasha got up with Marcy by her side and the three of them made their way to the bedroom. “But yeah, it’s kind of a shame that she has less fire nowadays.”

Anne frowned, looking at Marcy who was too sleepy to notice, “Yeah…”

After they’d changed into their pajamas and brushed their teeth, they all piled into their shared bed and snuggled up. Sasha was always on the side against the wall so she wouldn’t end up falling off the bed and completely disoriented, Marcy was always in the middle, and Anne always lay near the edge.

“Hey, Anne?” Sasha asked, her voice quiet when it didn’t need to be since their conversation wouldn’t disturb Marcy.

But Anne replied in the same fashion anyway, to not break the calm, “Yeah?”

“Do you think…I deserve to be blind?”

“What? What brought this up?”

“I dunno. Just been thinking about stuff lately.”

“Have you been feeling guilty about the past again? Sash—”

“I know, I know. I need to get over it. But it’s so hard, Anne! I can’t help but feel like this is some kind of punishment for all the terrible things I did, and that maybe I…deserve it.”

Anne immediately sat up at that, “Hey, no! You don’t . Neither of you deserved what happened to you, regardless of what you did.”

“I’m sorry, Anne.”

The brunette leaned over and kissed her on the cheek, gazing at her tenderly, “Stop apologizing. We already forgave you, remember?”

Sasha sighed but didn’t say anything else for a while until she eventually broke the silence again, “I miss hearing her voice.” Anne glanced back at the blonde, seeing her nuzzle the back of Marcy’s head. “I miss hearing her cute laughter and rambles about whatever thing she’s currently interested in. And…I miss being able to see your faces and smiles. You guys must look so beautiful now that we’re adults. I mean, you were always beautiful, but y’know…”

“Yeah, I get it. I miss it too,” Anne looked down at her other girlfriend who was wrapped up in their shared blanket, expression seemingly neutral but she could see a hint of sadness in her eyes. She tapped Marcy’s shoulder and the ravenette gazed up at her, ‘We miss hearing your lovely voice.’

Marcy blinked, then she signed back, ‘I miss hearing yours.’

‘We wish we could listen to you talk again. We never appreciated your ramblings or realized how cute you looked when you were happy,’ Anne grinned at her lovingly causing the Taiwanese woman to blush and hide her face beneath the blanket, trying to bury herself in their bed. “Aw, she’s being shy,” she cooed, stroking her raven-haired lover’s back.

“Marcy being shy? Can’t have that now can we?” Sasha reached over and wrapped her arms around Marcy, holding her close and leaning in to give her kisses all over her face. Her girlfriend let out a squeak when she managed to find her lips, relaxing as their kiss deepened. Sasha broke away after a minute had passed, she smiled dreamily and rested her forehead against her lover’s, “I love you so much, babygirl.”

Marcy read her lips and responded with another tender kiss. She then turned to Anne and kissed her deeply, conveying her love to her as well. The brunette nuzzled her face in return before completing the trinity by kissing Sasha.

A beat of silence followed before the blonde spoke again, “Hey, Anne?”

“Yes?”

“Thank you…for looking out for us.”

Anne’s heart filled with warmth and love for her girls, “Of course, Sash. I love you both so much. I would do anything for you.”

“You could’ve chosen to leave and not deal with us…”

“But I didn’t, because I care about you two too much to let you go. Especially after all we’ve been through together,” Anne hummed, combing her fingers through Sasha’s hair. She looked down at Marcy who gazed up at her with half-lidded eyes, sleep threatening to take over. The Thai woman signed and spoke at the same time, “I’ll always be your eyes and ears.”

Sasha and Marcy smiled and reached out to join hands with their third, then holding each other’s.

They may have a slight communication barrier between them, but one of the things they could easily communicate was how much they loved each other through gestures of affection.

And that was good enough for them.
