   Before he could chicken out, Foggy blurted out, “I saw Matt,” and waited for Karen’s reaction.

   Karen wrapped her gloved hands around his, and her sky-blue eyes welled up with knowing sadness. Of course. He should have known she would assume Foggy would reach out to talk about Matt. He was all they had in common anymore. Foggy took a shuddering breath, unsure of how to approach the topic. When he said he saw Matt, he didn’t mean he stopped by to leave a bouquet or to light a few votive candles, and he didn’t want Karen to have the wrong idea.
