Fruits of Our Branches, Together

Summary:

The two times Hanzo carried pups for both of his mates, the past, and the present.

Notes:

This took a while because in the middle of it I got really embarrassed writing it akjsdhfkjshd (don't be like me!! Write to your heart's will! Be free)

BUT, anyways, I do want to note that in (my) universe male omegas are intersex. Nothing is explicitly shown, they don't do the do or anything, but it /is/ implied. Just a heads up to anyone who might not be quite okay with it!

Thank you for reading <3
(let's all hope I finish this fast hshshsh)

Chapter 1: Blissful Past

Chapter Text

Neither of them had planned for Satoshi, at first.

He had been an accident—but a welcome one nonetheless. He didn't even realize it until a few weeks after his heat.

He was beginning to realize Harumi's changing demeanor. He had always known her for her protective streak—it's what made him utterly enamored with her—but for the past few days... it's been almost suffocating. Not like Hanzo didn't know how to enforce his own boundaries, but it was a little concerning.

"I think you should go check with the healers," Jin spoke next to him, taking him out of his thoughts. "If she's been insisting you take rests, maybe it has something to do with it."

Hanzo furrowed his brows. It wasn't such a far-fetched thought—Harumi had practically been demanding him to do nothing but lay in their nest all day. She hid it well, but the alpha would freak whenever she saw him doing his usual work, even if it wasn't a particularly strenuous task. Still...

"What would I even go to the healers for?" he wrinkled his nose, "it's not like I feel something's off."

Jin hummed, looking over his now-sharpened blade. "Have you been having some weird sickness? Maybe every morning? Aches?"

"You're making it sound like I'm knocked up or something," he deadpanned.

"Hey—you just never know," Jin snorts. "My wife had the same experience, you know that. I'm just saying, if it's a possibility— "

Hanzo's thoughts drown out the rest of Jin's musings. Truth to be told... maybe his friend was right. He'd been feeling ill every morning, and his instincts were only becoming more intense some days.

The urge to lay in his nest all day, let his alpha provide and care for him. Both of them were independent people and they both understood each other's boundaries. But some days, Hanzo found himself a little unsettled and in unease whenever Harumi wasn't there with him.

He had thought it was just remnants of his heat. He very much enjoyed their love for each other, intertwined that week, but Hanzo never really expected to gain something out of it. Let alone a pup. They've talked about it before—but male omegas just tend to have lower chances of getting pregnant, so both of them agreed to not get their hopes too high.

But with the very possibility of it now in his hands; or, well, his stomach…

"—Hey. Hey, Hanzo!"

Hanzo jumped, dodging just as Jin's palm was about to land on his shoulder. The beta laughed at his growl, shaking his head, making Hanzo huff.

"Fine. I'll... go to the healers," he grumbled under his breath. "But I'm not going to expect anything."

"Sure you won't," Jin teased, getting up on his feet again, "but if it does—then make sure you put me as godfather, won't you?"

The speed of which Jin ran to avoid Hanzo's fist hitting him would've been an achievement. He watched his friend leave, his face completely red while Jin laughed off.

He took a moment to calm down, sighing. Maybe he did need to go to the healer...

This was fine. Yeah, this was completely, wholeheartedly, fine.

He just needed to tell her, right? Just welcome her like usual when she comes back home. Maybe he should cook her favorite meal? Or- wait, no, he shouldn't. The last time he tried the house nearly burned down. Then what should he do?

In the midst of his panicking, he didn't even realize his scent was giving out his worries, and the subject of said worry was watching him from the door. It was only when he felt her slender yet strong arms around him that he flinched in surprise.

Her smile warmed his heart almost immediately.

" Alpha, " he breathed, leaning down to nuzzle her face, "I'm sorry, I didn't notice you were home."

Harumi laughed—light and airy, leaving his heart feeling full—pressing a kiss to his cheek. "And I did not expect to be home to you looking so conflicted."

Her hand came up to rest on his cheek, and he could not help the purr that escaped him. Much as she was strong—befitting of becoming the next grandmaster, for sure—he could not help but feel how delicate her hands are, even when calloused by the blades she held before. Something so small that made him so attached.

"You smell scared," she murmured gently, brushing a strand of Hanzo's hair away, "is something bothering you, my omega? "

The use of his status made him shudder, if only slightly. Hanzo doesn't think he'd ever get used to the way she said it as if he's a piece of treasure in her hands.

"...Not exactly bothering," he trailed, "just... something. News of sorts."

Harumi raised an eyebrow at that. Her scent gave off just a small amount of confusion, of fear. She didn't know if the news was bad or good.

"And what news is it?" she probed gently, moving to hold his hands, "...if it is anything bad, you know that I will stay with you, right?"

The curve of Hanzo's lip twitched up. He squeezed her hand back in response, giving a nod to her words.

"I know," he sighed. "I am just... anxious to say it."

She let him have his time. As his thoughts scramble, so does his heart. He couldn't bring up the confidence to look her in her eyes. His gaze was locked onto their intertwined hands as his mouth finally moved.

"I'm pregnant," he blurted.

Harumi stares. Hanzo stares right back.

It felt like they were just blinking back and forth—Harumi’s mouth gaping slightly and Hanzo with a tense smile on his face.

For a moment, he really thought he messed up. He couldn’t control the way his shoulders fell, eyes blinking and his scent just turning to a small bit of disappointment. He was about to pull away, an apology at the tip of his tongue, but then—

Harumi’s lips crashed into his, making them both tumble and his bottom to hit the floor as he yelped. He didn’t even get a second to catch himself before she pulled away abruptly, nose pressing into his neck, breathing in his scent, leaving his pupils blown wide as they fluttered open—not like he knew when he even closed them. Her scent weaves into his nose, alpha, cherry blossoms wood that he adored.

He feels her teeth digging into him; biting, nipping, marking, and Hanzo could feel their pheromones mixing again and the telltale sign of slick under his pants. It was only when she realizes what she’s doing that Harumi pulls back abruptly, her eyes just as wide.

“Are you—” she clamps her mouth, as if she’s just as afraid, “serious? Like, serious —”

“Yes,” he couldn’t help the way a laugh escapes him as he says it, as he cradles her cheeks in his palms like she’s his world, “ yes. I’m serious, I promise. We’re—”

“We’re having a pup. ” she finishes for him.

And it was those words, their gazes, that the laugh they held down finally released. Loud, happy, excited all at once. Hanzo felt his back hit the warm floor below as Harumi wrapped her arms around his neck, and he didn’t waste a moment to hesitate in wrapping his own arms around her waist.

He laughed as she peppered kisses on his face, turning around so they were laying on their sides, facing each other. Her hair felt like silk in his fingers—brushing them and untangling the strands that were twisted. As their eyes met, it was like nothing else mattered anymore. Just their little pack and incoming addition.

She didn’t speak as she got up; pulling him with her. He lets her lead him into their bedroom, into their nest, obediently falling into the soft sheets as she kisses his forehead. It was warm—her hands— as she let his hair undone, kissing the strands like he’s a divine being to be worshiped. In his eyes, it is her who is the goddess, but for this moment alone he lets himself bask in her devotion.

Her hand trails down to where his stomach lies and he couldn’t help the hitch of breath that escaped him. She laughs, soft and amused, bringing her face down for another kiss to his lips.

“We’re having a pup,” she spoke again, quietly. “Well. I suppose we’ll just have to prepare ourselves, huh?”

“We do, yes,” he snorts, “I assume your father will finally be happy at having a grandchild so soon.”

Her laughs ring in the room, and he pulls her down, smothering her with his own kisses—his alpha, his mate, and their love for their growing child only making the scene more affectionate than he ever thought he could possibly experience.
