Paper Mario was still figuring out exactly how this 3D World worked.
He had adjusted fairly well so far, many things had been very close to how they worked in his world, so it wasn't a huge adjustment...
So he didn't second guess himself when he pulled out a Mushroom, held it high over his head, and waited for the healing to commence.
...and waited.
And waited.
Sure is taking awhile.
He glanced down to see both Mario & Luigi staring back at him awkwardly.
"...what are you-a doing?" Mario asked.
He explained to them that he was trying to heal, before lowering the item, and trying to lift it again.
Maybe it somehow didn't activate the first time?... He wasn't exactly sure what made the items work in his world, him and his partners always just kinda held them overhead and they did things...
But nothing was happening.
"You, uh... need to-a eat it." Luigi sheepishly explained.
Paper Mario's eyes widened.
Eat it? This thing's about the size of his head, and has a whole extra dimension than him! How could he possibly fit in his mouth?!
Mario, understanding better than anyone what his paper counterpart was thinking, spoke up. "I don't-a know how, but it just kinda works..."
Paper Mario lowered the item, and looked it over, spinning it around in his hands to look it over from all angles.
He was going to choke on this thing. He was sure of it.
But... eating something way bigger than your mouth isn't too much weirder than just holding something in the air and it healing you. There's no reason to not trust the bros on this.
So, he gulped in anticipation, and tilted his head back, closed his eyes, and opened his mouth, before tossing the Mushroom up into the air...
And when he felt it land in his mouth, he swallowed.
And he healed.
His eyes shot open after a second, and he felt himself over.
He wasn't choking, and he didn't have a giant 3D Mushroom shaped bulge in his 2D stomach...
Filled with relief, he did a hop, and struck a pose, while Mario & Luigi laughed at his enthusiasm.
To them, it was something they never even thought about.
To Paper Mario, it was a new and fascinating way to heal.
The bros couldn't help but wonder how he would react to other items...
...and how safe syrup would be for a being made of paper to drink...
