Chapter Text
Hamilton was sitting on his couch, watching c-dramas, eating some leftover pasta from his fridge in a t-shirt and sweatpants when suddenly, his phone started to buzz.
Curious on who could be calling him at this ungodly hour, even wondering why he was up himself, picks up his phone. Seeing it was Washington, he quickly answered. “Hello Mr. Washington. Is there something wrong?” Hamilton asked with mock happiness. “I told you to call me George, Hamilton.” Washington sighed. “And yes, unfortunately something has come up. Lafayette can not make it to his night shift, and it would be appreciated if you could come and fill in for him.” Washington answered. “Alright, there's nothing on my calendar at this moment, so I should be able to take over his shift, however, will this case be counted towards my pay?” Hearing Washington sigh from the other side of the call, he responds with an annoyed “Yes, now get your ass in here or it won't.” and with that, he hung up and left his sofa to get dressed and slip his shoes on.

Alexander arrived at the office dreading his newfound shift, wishing he never picked up the phone that night. He sat down at his desk, which already had stacks of paper that Lafayette was meant to do. “Great” Hamilton muttered in an annoyed, and tired voice. While quickly skimming through the papers, he heard familiar footsteps. Of course it was the man he detested the most, Thomas Jefferson. The southerner didn't seem to notice him at first, but quickly found him. “Hamilton? Since when did you work night shifts?” “I'm covering for Lafayette.” Great, Alexander thought, now he's trying to strike conversation, this night just couldn't get any worse. “Oh! Great because I have a couple more papers that Lafayette still hasn't finished for me!” more work! How fun, I just love papers! Well, better start on them now or I'm never leaving this place. Anything for that extra money, Hamilton thought.

*5:00am*
Hamilton has been working for about 3 hours now and still has a boatload of papers left to do. He decided that it was best if he went to grab himself a cup of coffee before continuing his work. While walking to the break room with the coffee machine, he notices Jefferson standing there, drinking his big mug filled with hot coffee. As Hamilton began to turn around and leave, it was too late, Thomas had already noticed the immigrant. “Alexander, wait up! I've got something for you!!!” what could it be this time? Hamilton thought to himself. “Here this is for you! I know it's not in the cup you always drink from but it was all there was so” Jefferson handed Hamilton one of those brown paper cups with hot coffee, it was black, just like Hamilton enjoyed his. “Oh and what's this for?” “Well you seemed really tired so I just thought I'd make you a cup since I was here already” Hamilton stared at his coffee for a bit, then at Jefferson, and inquired: “Haven't you drank enough already? You're practically shaking from all of that caffeine. How many cups have you had?” Hamilton sounded like he was actually concerned for Jefferson's wellbeing. “Oh uhm, this is only like my..” Hamilton watched Jefferson start to count on his fingers, representing how many cups he had. “6th cup now! Though, it has a shit ton of creamer, so don't worry it's not that bad!!!” the Virginian replied “Like this hour or your whole shift so far?” “Go to hell” Jefferson mumbled under his breath, and quickly walked away back to his office cabinet. “Well that was weird.” Hamilton slowly muttered to himself, “I guess I should head back too then.”

Hamilton kept staring at the cup of coffee on his desk instead of doing his work. He took one sip from it, but by that time it was already getting cold. Usually this would bother Alexander, but this time was different. This time it was made by Jefferson, a man he despises most. Jefferson made him a cup of coffee exactly the way he likes it, even with his favorite brand. He didn't have to do it, but he still did. This puzzled Hamilton, why would a man he hates do this for him? Did he truly care? Did Thomas actually plan to get him a cup or did he just do it because there was extra coffee? This was bothering him too much, he had to go and find out for himself.
