Work Text:

Shota groaned as Yamada came up to him with yet another beautiful girl at his side. On some level, he actually did appreciate that his best friend was so dedicated to finding someone that would make him happy, but on another level there was a small problem with this whole thing.

Shota was gay. Shota was not attracted to any of the girls Yamada tried to set him up with because Shota did not like girls. He valued them as friends, colleagues, mentors, and family members of course, but as romantic partners? No thank you.

“Yamada, I’ve asked you to stop doing this.” Shota grumbled, his face planting into the lunch table.

“No can do broski!” Yamada replied with his usually lively and energetic voice, “after all, what kind of bro would I be if I didn’t help my best buddy find love?!”

Shota had accidentally admitted he’d just gone through a bad breakup and was feeling a bit lonely a few weeks earlier. What he hadn’t mentioned is that he’d broken up with Sekijiro, not with a girl. An intentional omission seeing as wasn’t ready to come out to Yamada. Shota wasn’t even sure why he was so scared to come out to him. Yamada had been extremely supportive when Shirakumo and Kayama-Senpai both came out as bi, he was pretty sure Yamada would still be his friend if he came out to him, but the idea still made him nervous. Yamada had been his closest friend ever since he switched over from the general course to the hero course. When Ectoplasm-Sensei welcomed him into Class A, Yamada had gone out of his way to welcome him and help him into his new class. As much as the man annoyed him, he was unarguably his best friend. Shota didn’t want to risk ruining that… Even if Yamada trying to introduce him to women was incredibly annoying.

“Who is it this time?” Aizawa groaned.

“Only my favorite kohai in the whole world! Say hi to the one and only Anan Kurose!” Yamada replied, posing like the woman from that one American game show as he introduced the student from two grades below them.

“Hello.” Shota replied, not looking up from his desk.

“Hi!” Kurose replied, a bright smile gracing her face.

“I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m really not looking for a relationship right now.” The homeless looking student explained, trying to keep an even tone. It wasn’t her fault his idiot friend had dragged her into this.

“No worries. Have a nice day, Aizawa-Senpai!” The girl with galaxies in her eyes replied, politely walking away.

Mic snapped his fingers in disappointment, “rats! Thought I had a winner that time,” he sighed, taking a seat across from his friend.

Shota let out yet another groan. “Can you please just stop this? I appreciate that you want me to find happiness but this is really making me uncomfortable. This was the 14th girl you’ve tried to introduce me to!”

“Oh no dude, I can’t stop now! I’ve got plenty more girls I can introduce you to!” Yamada replied, beaming with excitement.

“Plenty more- What do you have a list?!”

“Yep! You told me about you breaking up with that one girl, so I started a list of every girl that I think could be compatible with my Aizawa-bro!” Yamada explained, pulling out a notebook filled with the names of various women.

Shota looked through the list. It was thorough. Plenty of intelligent, kind, and beautiful women that were Shota interested in girls he’d definitely be considering in spite of his crippling introversion, “why did you stop at 38 girls?”

“There’s 38 school days between when you told me about your breakup and summer break. I figure if you don’t have a girl by then you’ll have all summer to find a girlfriend.”

This was becoming increasingly difficult.

Shota took a deep breath, “and who’s next?”

Yamada consulted his notes again, “ooh! Monday is a special guest, do you remember Emi Fukukado from Ketsubutsu? I invited her over to UA for a visit.”

Shota’s eyes went wide with horror and he stood up from the table. Not her! Not the green haired girl from the license exams! “Alright, that’s it!”

Yamada’s eyes went wide too. Why was Aizawa shouting all of the sudden? He let out a sigh. “You’re right bro. I should’ve stopped two weeks ago. I’m sorry I didn’t listen. I wanted to make you happy, but I wasn’t thinking about how uncomfortable I was making you. I’ll stop now.”

Shota pulled at his hair. Now he felt like a jerk, “Yamada it isn’t that, it’s just that-!” He couldn’t say it.

“Just what Aizawa? What is it?” Yamada asked, looking confused.

Angry tears started to form in Shota’s eyes. Dammit! Find the words! He screamed internally.

Yamada’s face filled with concern, “Aizawa, what is it? Why are you crying?”

Shota paced in a small circle for a moment. Fuck it. “YAMADA! I’M GAY!”

Yamada blinked for a moment as he processed the words. “Oooooooh! Now it all makes sense!”

“I’m- I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, alright?”

“So who was the girl you broke up with?”

“It wasn’t a girl, it was Sekijiro Kan.”

“The blood guy from Class B?”

“Yes.”

“He’s gay too?”

“He’s bi like Shirakumo.”

Yamada nodded, “that's cool man.”

Shota huffed, “and me?”

“What about you? Of course I think you’re cool. You’re my best friend. Why wouldn’t I think you’re cool?”

“So the fact that I’m-“

“What? You not cool just because you like dudes? Of course not! What kind of friend would I be if I thought like that?”

Shota slumped back into his chair with relief, “thank you, Yamada. I really appreciate that.”

“Of course bro!”

Shota let out a small sigh of relief and then a light chuckle before taking a sip of his coffee. He suddenly felt very silly for ever worrying about this sort of thing.

“So I guess with that out of the way, all that’s left is… TO FIND YOU A NEW BOYFRIEND!”

Shota spit out his coffee in shock, “WHAT?!?!?”

Yamada jumped out of his seat and ran towards Class B’s table and then returned with a tall, gorgeous dark skinned man with dreadlocks who carried himself with the swagger of an old gunslinger. Shota felt his face starting to burn, “Shota Aizawa, meet me my good friend, Arisaka Winchester!”

“Salutations partner,” the cowboy greeted. His smile had a roguish charm that made Shota’s mouth dry.

“Hello,” Shota replied, suddenly feeling very self conscious about his appearance. Dammit Yamada did you really have to pick the hottest guy ever right out of the gate?!

Notes:

So Snipe has no canon age or real name, so I decided to say he was the same age as Mic and Eraser. I’ve always headcanoned him as biracial with an African-American father and a Japanese mother, so his name is reflective of that, Winchester is an obvious reference to the Winchester Rifle, Arisaka is a reference to the Arisaka Rifle named for its creator, Arisaka Nariakira.
I hope everyone liked this! Happy Pride!
