Chapter Text

You know, if I wasn't always distracted by the world and its mysteries all around me, maybe I would get a chance to just curl myself up in a soft, warm blanket and read a good book with nothing bothering me. As a child, they were my only escape into a world of comfort and acceptance where the characters in the book didn't care who I was but were ecstatic each time I read their story.

Now don't get me wrong, I could have possibly anything I wanted in this world, but I still feel sad...tell me does that make me selfish? Now that I have grown up, I was adopted by loving parents who love and support me every step of the way, and friends who are there for me when I need them, life should be happy for me. I just feel a piece of myself missing, and I don't know what it is. For now, books are the ones filling that gap, but only temporarily. I wonder what the second puzzle piece is. Maybe it's the one that can truly complete me?

"There is no friend as loyal as a book." -Ernest Hemingway

"Hey, woman." I heard those words escape from someone's mouth as they shook me awake like a rumbling earthquake.

My eyes slowly fluttered open as I realized I had accidentally fallen asleep. I picked my head up from the table I was resting my head on and sat up straight to meet a pair of blue-green eyes staring back at mine.

For context, I took upon the job of a librarian assistant when I had free time at school. In more literal terms, the actual librarian is using me to do all of her work while she leaves the school hours early. But I don't mind, the work isn't that hard anyway. Sometimes I talk with my friends, sometimes I read my favorite book, and sometimes I just like to fall asleep under the sound of an oscillating fan, a sound I have grown quite used too.

"Hi! Jotaro right? We're in the same class together!" I slightly giggled to make the conversation a bit more friendly, since I already know that the infamous Jotaro doesn't like to talk.

I slightly stretched out my arms and logged into the library database to see if he wanted to find a book of some kind.

"I need something on Dolphins. Marine Life." He grumbled while slightly adjusting his hat over his eyes.

"Marine Life? That's very cool." I smiled looking at those eyes once more. Searching for those books on my computer, I found the bookshelf location and stood up from my desk.

"Follow me, I know just the book for you." I told him as I led him to one of the research sections on the topic.

He slowly picked up the book he wanted, and flipped through the pages smoothly, making sure that he doesn't dog-ear the pages as he looked through the descriptions of different aquatic animals.

"We have a quiet section right in the back if you want to read in peace." I pointed at the direction in case he was trying to do some schoolwork or just read quietly.

"I see..." I heard him say while adjusting his hat once more, but this time he did it so that his eyes were more visible.

"Thank you." He replied with a genuine look in his eyes, while I stood in awe.

I never thought a person who was labeled as a tough delinquent by almost the whole school, would appear so genuine and kind for doing something so small.

"Anytime." I gave him a smile before turning around and attempting to walk back to my desk until I heard a large thud.

I deducted the source of the thud was on the opposite side of the bookshelf from where I was standing. It caused it to sway for a few seconds than the whole thing started falling on top of me!

Bracing for impact, I barely managed to catch sight of some kind purple ghost standing next to Jotaro as it caught the bookshelf and put it back towards its previous place.

Wait a second, a purple ghost?! Maybe I just saw my life flash before my eyes and hallucinated that thing.

I then saw Jotaro carefully put down the book and run to the opposite side of the bookshelf. Curious at what he was doing, I also walked around and saw him holding a boy by his collar and yelling at him.

"What were you thinking, bitch? You could have crushed someone!"

The boy raised his hands in the air as if pleading for mercy and cried out, "I'm sorry! I tripped and accidentally knocked it down!"

"Jotaro." I said sternly as I put my hand on his arm. "Let the boy go, he didn't mean any ill will. You're safe, he's safe, I'm safe right now and I'm happy with the outcome."

He hesitated but let the boy ago after letting out a large "Tch." Muttering something to himself as he then proceeded to leave, I couldn't help but wonder what that purple ghost that saved me was.

Maybe I'm just tired, though I did take a quick nap not too long ago. Maybe it's a sign that I should go home? Probably...

My daily routine before I close the library every day is too always check if the printer is off... and if nobody left any stuff behind- I suddenly stumbled a little bit on something laying on the ground, it was a bit of a darker color so I almost couldn't tell it apart from the carpet as it camouflaged.

It turned out to be a small leather wallet and was quite sturdy. I took a peek inside to check for an ID to see if I could give it back to the owner, and my jaw almost dropped. It was Jotaro! He must have dropped it during the whole confrontation between him and the boy.

I looked through the wallet again and found quite a large amount of cash. I should definitely give this back to him because God knows what he needs this money for. It would be against my morals to just straight up take it.

Making sure all of the lights are turned off and everything is secure, I locked the door and prepared to give Jotaro his wallet back.

It had the address of his house written on his ID and it wasn't too far away from where I lived so thankfully giving it back would be a breeze!

Managing to find the house, I rang the doorbell and waited to see if anybody would answer. But since the light was on, and I could smell the delicious aroma of chicken dumplings, my guess is that they would open the door in about any second now.

Confirming what I was thinking, the door quickly opened as I was met with the brightest and bubbliest face I had ever seen. She gave me a beaming smile while understandably looking a bit confused because she had never seen me before.

"Hello! I was just wondering, is this where Jotaro lives?" I asked the woman who was probably Jotaro's mom.

"Yes! Did you need anything?" She replied back

"I'm Y/N L/N, a classmate of his, he dropped his wallet at school, and I wanted to give it back." I responded as she looked quite shocked.

"Oh my goodness! Please step inside if it's not a bother, I'll call Jotaro right now." She said as she motioned for me to come in and ran to call Jotaro up here.

I quietly sat on their couch and observed the interior beauty of the home. It was big, but it felt cozy at the same time. And oh my gosh my mouth just won't stop watering at the scent of the chicken dumplings!

"Oi, why are you here?" I heard Jotaro come down from the hall, hands in his pockets while walking towards me.

"You dropped this." I smiled as I handed him his wallet back.

He grabbed it and looked through its contents as he then looked at me quite suspiciously. Looking in the wallet, and then back at me.

"What are you staring at?" I chuckled, "I didn't take any money, I made sure nobody else took it either."

"Good grief." He sighed while shaking his head, "Thank you again."

"Aaaa!" I heard Jotaro's mom squeal as she hugged him in excitement, meanwhile Jotaro just stood stiffly with the most deadpanned look on his face.

"Sorry, it's just that Jotaro is usually alone and it's nice to see him talking to someone from time to time." She explained the cause of her sudden burst of energy.

"That's great!" I replied while Jotaro's mom began to speak once more.

"My name is Holly Kujo, but people around here call me Seiko! How about you join us for dinner? It's already late and I have more than enough to share." She told me.

"Really?! I mean no, that's too much thank yo-"

And before you know it, I didn't even get a chance to reply as I suddenly got pulled towards the dinner table much to Jotaro's dismay.

As I sat on the chair looking kind of goofy, I asked If I could be of some help because I felt awkward just sitting there and doing nothing. But Holly quickly brought us both a plate of chicken dumplings and started talking as she started putting some on her plate.

"So, tell me, do you have any hobbies? My wittle Jotaro has just recently developed a huge interest in Marine science and-"

"Shut up!" Jotaro yelled at his mom as I noticed the tiniest tint of pink on his cheeks the more his mom talked about his personal life. Was he embarrassed? Maybe. But why would I make fun of something like that? Marine science is very cool and I'm glad he found something he likes to do.

"I'm pretty boring if you ask me." I responded to the question, "I like reading books of course, food is my life, and I have a small collection of seashells!"

"Boring?! Why those are very interesting hobbies!" Seiko exclaimed while taking a bite of a dumpling.

"Thank you" I smiled while finishing chewing on my last piece.

I stood up and placed my dirty dish in the sink as I bowed and expressed my upmost gratitude. "Thank you for having me!" I exclaimed with delight, satisfied with my belly full of delicious food.

Holly answered "Mhm!" and then ran to go fetch something from her closet. After she came back, she handed me a small blanket because the nights here get chilly from time to time.

"I'll have Jotaro walk you back home if you want!" She said while patting Jotaro slowly on the back.

"Sure! I wouldn't mind some company." I replied. Maybe this will be my chance to get to know him a little bit better. Since he always distances himself away during class, maybe fate has intertwined our experiences together so we can become friends.

Jotaro only angrily muttered while grabbing his coat and then we both set out on foot.

It had gotten quite dark during my stay at the Kujo's house. But yet the night was still so beautiful. The stars adorned the midnight sky as the moon shone bright as day at around this time.

I turned to look at Jotaro and saw his face become more visible than before, thanks to the bright illumination of the moon. Observing even more closely, I saw his eyes sparkle as he also looked up at the magnificent sky.

"Jotaro, do you know how I said one of my hobbies was collecting seashells?" I asked him curiously as I was unsure whether he'd had been even paying attention back there. But he surprisingly he nodded in agreement.

I then took his hand and made his palm face upwards as I handed a tiny trinket in his hand. It was a seashell bracelet made up of sparkles and purple adorned with black that I had painted on there.

He looked surprised but didn't take his arm away as I was giving it to him.

"I make these sometimes in my free time and it reminded me of you." I stood right in the path of the moonlight as it lit up our faces even clearer. "You may act tough, but I feel like If I get to know you better, we would become very good friends. You are actually very sweet, and I give you this bracelet as a reminder that friendship can be so fragile but beautiful at the same time."

"Good grief. Are you forcing me to say thank you a third time?" He muttered as I could swear the smallest smirk could be seen on his face.

"Maybe!" I grinned as we finally got to my house.

I opened the door to see my mom kind of worried that I was late. But just before I tended to that matter first, I gave Jotaro a warm goodbye before closing the door.

"Sweetie, next time tell us if you're going to a friend's house!" My mom told me sternly.

"I will mom, I will." I replied as I walked towards my door, and greeted the heavenly comforts of my bed as I wrapped myself up in the cozy blanket that Holly had given me, and drifted off to a world of peace and tranquility...
