Work Text:
Today Alexis had a goal! She'd confess her feelings to the prettiest girl in school. Michelle Kaiser. Michelle had long blonde hair that was dyed blue at the ends. Honestly, Ness was worried if Kaiser was even going to look at her. I mean, sure, Alexis had admired Michelle from afar for months, but actually speaking to her was a whole different story. They used to be really close, but now Kaiser only spoke to her in private, and Ness wasn't even sure if her existence meant anything to Michelle. Despite her nerves, Alexis knew she had to take a chance and be honest with Michelle about her feelings. She couldn't keep hiding her emotions and wondering what could have been if she had never taken the leap.
Michelle was what some might call mean, but Ness always thought she was just blatantly honest. After all, who knew Kaiser as well as Ness did? No one, and Ness would make sure it stayed that way. She held her plush close to her chest. One that she'd spent almost a year making. It was a plush of Kaiser's head, every single detail crocheted by Ness herself! Ness had spent months studying every aspect of Kaiser's face to get the exact details.
She'd spend hours just staring at the plush. She'd even found a blonde wig to go with it. It rested on her nightstand, always staring at her. Watching. It was almost embarrassing. Of course! Ness could always just hide it somewhere else, but the feeling of her beloved's eyes on her frame was simply too intimate to ignore. So, she decided to keep the plush close to her chest, a constant reminder of her dedication and love for Kaiser. Plus, it was a comforting presence during lonely nights.
Now staring into the mirror, Ness fixed her piercings and straightened her hair to the side. She stared into the mirror. Staring back at Ness was a girl in a blinging black belt, a white and black striped tank top, and dark blue denim jeans. Blasting in the background was Helena by My Chemical Romance.
She grabbed her black and white striped arm warmers and slid them on.
"ALEXIS! GET TO SCHOOL, YOU'RE LATE!" Her mother yelled. Ness rolled her eyes and grabbed her wallet and backpack. Inside the wallet were her house keys, a few dollars, her student ID, and a singular picture of her and Kaiser. It was taken on September 9th at 12 p.m. The very first day of high school. On the back of the photo was Kaiser's dry blood.
On September 8th, when the sun was still out, Kaiser hugged Ness really tight. As she pulled away, Ness spotted something. Blood. That's when Ness knew they were destined. With her thumb, Ness wiped the blood from underneath Kaiser's nose.
'Do you have a napkin?' She asked. Kaiser shook her head. The only place Ness could wipe the blood was on that photograph. At first, that photo didn't mean much.
But that was a valuable item now, for that was when Kaiser was pure. As Ness wiped the blood on the photo, she couldn't help but feel a sense of connection to Kaiser that went beyond their first meeting. The photograph now held a deeper significance, symbolizing the bond they shared from that very first day of high school.
During their freshman year, the duo was inseparable. Kaiser would cling to Ness like she was a doll. They’d gossip about drama as Ness styled Kaiser's hair. They’d tell each other's secrets and giggle. Ness really thought she’d found someone who was her second half.
As the months passed, people started to realize how beautiful Kaiser was. Michelle, who was once her best friend, viewed her as a dog. In the beginning, this idea angered Ness.
She missed Kaiser, who would lay on her lap. The Kaiser would stare into her dark magenta eyes and look away when the room started to heat up.
She missed the Kaiser, who would sob in her arms uncontrollably every time her dad beat her. The way Kaiser would bury her head into the crook of Ness’s pale neck and squeeze her tight while muttering that the world was against her.
"I’m the only one on your side,’ Ness would ponder. ‘I can make you feel alive. I can take that demon from you. You can stay pure; you can fix my broken body. With the love that pools from your pores.”
Those thoughts floated in Ness’s head like clouds. They took over her beliefs and goals, her hopes and dreams. This friendship that blossomed from understanding grew into an obsession built upon the need to possess.
Before Ness left her room, she kissed the doll of her beloved, shuddering at just the idea of tasting Kaiser.
What would Kaiser taste like? Would she taste sweet like the chocolate she was always snacking on, or maybe minty from the gum she chewed? Ness's mind raced with fantasies of tasting Kaiser, her obsession growing stronger with each passing moment. The thought of possessing Kaiser consumed her.
Ness set the doll down before leaving her room, running down the steps and sliding on her converse.
⋆♱✮♱⋆
Ness left, shutting and not slamming her front door. This morning, Ness was going to walk to school. If she did, she’d have time to buy Kaiser gifts. It’s not a good confession without them.
“Today is milk chocolate day. If I get normal Hershey's, she’ll complain, but she'll eat it anyway. If I get her a snickers bar, it’ll fill her up enough not to complain during the third period. So there’s an 80% chance she’ll go with the snickers! I’ll get both just in case.”
Ness spent a total of 4 minutes in the corner store, trying to decide if today was coffee day or tea day. Kaiser was a ticking time bomb; after all, Ness needed to make sure everything was right.
After checking out, she shoved her things in her backpack and made her way to school.
There, Ness would wave at the security guard and some other students before stopping at her locker. She’d watch and wait as Kaiser walked in with her group of scum.
Ness hated every single one of them. She hated the way they believed they were on the same playing field as Kaiser. She chewed on her nails as she stared at them.
The disgust that swelled in her stomach churned and mixed. The more she stared, the sicker she became. She stared at the way Kaiser would laugh with the brown haired girl next to her. Ness believed her name was Kenyuu Yukimiya. She slid her flip phone out of her pocket and snapped a picture of them together.
Unworthy.
Unworthy.
UNWORTHY.
The thought of the girl holding Kaiser, kissing Kaiser, and even staring at Kaiser with such longing eyes made Ness ill. She held her stomach, trying not to puke up the food she’d eaten the night before. Ness felt a wave of jealousy and insecurity wash over her as she realized she may never have Kaiser's attention in the same way. The realization that she may never be enough for Kaiser left a bitter taste in her mouth.
But Ness must’ve been staring for too long. Staring back at her was Kaiser, with her red eye liner and lovely chopped hair. Ness felt her knees grow weak as if Kaiser wasn’t staring at her with nothing but pure resentment.
Ness turned her head away, finally opening her locker and grabbing her notebooks. She put them in her bag and zipped it up. Then she rushed to the bathroom. The look Kaiser gave her was filled with thousands of emotions, and she didn’t know what they were.
Or how to tackle them.
As Ness splashed water on her face, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that Kaiser's gaze had left her with. She took a deep breath, determined to confront whatever emotions were brewing between them head-on.
Did it take long for Kaiser to run after her? No. Kaiser always ran after Ness. They were like a cat and a mouse.
Kaiser pushed open the bathroom, slamming it behind her. She rushed toward the sink and stopped in front of Ness.
Kaiser wore long flare jeans, a grayish-blue Halter top, a blazer, and a rhinestone belt. She dug into her tote bag, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. Her eyes were still looming over Alexis’s frame.
“God, you are such a freakazoid. Why was I even friends with you? You can’t even let people go. Sad, really.” Kaiser muttered, creeping closer.
Her slim, pale hands combed through Ness’s hair. Ness flinched at Kaiser's touch, her heart racing.
“Y’know, you should really find some self respect. But if you did, I wouldn’t have you all to myself.” She whispered before setting her bag on the sink and shuffling for her lighter.
Ness felt her face heat up. Her cheeks, which were once pink, are now red. Her legs threatened to give up on her. Kaiser's words cut deep, leaving Ness feeling exposed and vulnerable. She knew she needed to find the strength to stand up for herself, but the fear of losing her only friend held her back. The fear of losing her 'lover'.
Ness wanted to muster up the courage to grab Kaiser’s shoulder and tell her she loved her.
But she couldn’t. Every time she opened her mouth, nothing would come out. Every time Kaiser was close, she couldn’t utter a word.
‘Curse this fear of mine.’ Thought Alexis, curling her hands into fists. She watched as Kaiser lit her cigarette, the flame illuminating her features in the dimly lit bathroom. The moment passed, and Ness remained silent, the words of love trapped inside her.
Kaiser turned around suddenly, the lit cigarette now in her mouth. She pulled it away from her lips and itched closer to Ness. Blowing the smoke into her face.
Ness turned away, coughing hard. The smoke burned her lungs. She turned away from Kaiser, listening to the girl chuckle behind her.
“What? You’re totally overreacting.”
“It’s burning my lungs.”
Kaiser’s smile faded as fast as it came. Her voice was almost sickeningly sweet.
“Alexis.”
“Yes..?”
“Turn around.”
“God no, Kaiser, you smell like smoke.”
“You’d come to me even if I was rotting. Get over it and turn around.”
Waving her hand in the air to clear the smell of smoke, Ness proceeded to turn around and face Kaiser.
Kaiser's hand was soft and sweet as it lifted up the tanktop Ness wore. Ness trembled, her blood pumping faster than ever.
‘Kaiser’s so close! Too close! Close enough to taste. I just want to taste her.’ These thoughts ran through Ness’s head as Kaiser’s hand rubbed her sides.
The feeling was lovely until her hands switched positions and, as quickly as it came, covered Ness’s mouth.
Now, she was stressed. What the fuck was going on?
The cigarette was pressed against Ness’s side. The burn was distasteful and painful. Kaiser’s expression was dark and filled with a discomforting load of malice.
She screamed, but her sounds were muffled by Kaiser’s palm.
“It hurts, doesn’t it? C’mon. Tell me it hurts. Does this burn as much as your lungs? Does it? “
Tears trickled down Ness’s face, but it wasn’t like Kaiser cared. No matter what she did to Alexis, Alexis would use any scenario to justify it, and that was what Kaiser needed.
Kaiser made Ness feel terrible about herself. At the same time, she’d hold Ness tightly and comfort her. As if to say that even though Ness was nothing but a corpse, she’d still be of use.
When they’d first met. Kaiser had planned a rough draft. She looked around for someone who was different, someone who would clearly be deemed an outcast in a few weeks. That outcast was Ness. Ness who’s sleeves were always long, even in warm weather. Ness, who admired her. Who promised her that, even if the world scorned her? She would never do such a thing.
Kaiser loved the way Ness would listen. She loved watching the way Ness would stare when she was near. Even if the magenta haired girl thought Kaiser was oblivious, she was clearly far from wrong.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!”
“What are you sorry for?”
Ness couldn’t help but respond. What was she sorry for? Feeling pain? Anguish?
“What? Can’t talk?” Kaiser purred, pulling the cigarette away. There was a tiny area of burned flesh on Ness. “Let me help. Say it with me.”
Ness swallowed.
“I’m sorry for standing up to you,” muttered Kaiser.
“Sorry for standing up to you.”
“Good. Now bark; being a dog is what you’re good for, right?”
Ness looked away from Kaiser. The idea of confessing her feelings was far from her mind now. Her hands began to tremble, and the feeling of pure embarrassment was overwhelming. Bark? Like a dog? She's been called that before, but Kaiser’s never asked her to act on it. What if someone saw? What if she got caught?
Ness rubbed her arm, her eyes darting around the room, trying not to make eye contact. Maybe Kaiser was just joking.
“Are you testing me?”
“…”
Maybe if she removed herself from the situation, she wouldn’t have to face it. She wouldn’t have to face Kaiser.
“Alexis!?"
Ness pushed past Kaiser and out of the bathroom. Kaiser was following behind, about to grab Ness by her forearm. But before she could reach her, Ness had already disappeared around the corner.
Kaiser kissed her teeth, her blood beginning to boil. She needed to claim Ness as her own. Not as an act of love but as an act of control. She'd molded Ness into the perfect doll. The perfect specimen would never go against her words or her beliefs.
As much as Kaiser wanted to strangle the other for running away like a stray cat, she took a deep breath and smiled. Though it looked as if Ness was scared of her, Kaiser knew her dog like the back of her hand; no matter how you treat a dog, it'll always stay loyal.
If you nurture it once and comfort it twice, when you leave it to rot, it will not bite. It was a twisted form of love, but one that suited Kaiser just fine.
⋆♱✮♱⋆
A week passed, and Alexis couldn’t go to sleep. She couldn’t eat, and she couldn’t do her homework. It's not like she was motivated to do it anyway. Not when her siblings were that much better than her. Alexis didn't want to be a scientist, a mathematician, a lawyer, or anything like that. She wanted to make music and write books. She wanted to do something poetic that left a mark. Even if that was her dream, it would never be fulfilled considering the fact that Ness wasn't normal, and even if she was, she'd always be a worthless mutt roaming the earth with a mindless existence.
Her heart hurt terribly, and she couldn’t even think. Was Kaiser angry with her? Why couldn’t she just swallow her pride? Why was she so stupid? She needed Kaiser with her. She needed someone to comfort her and prove to her that she didn't need to be engraved on a tombstone to have any impact on the lives of others.
She didn’t mean to be such a moron. She just didn’t want to embarrass herself. She knew she had to apologize and make things right with Kaiser, but her fear of rejection and failure held her back. Deep down, she hoped Kaiser would understand and forgive her for her mistakes.
The feeling of resentment towards herself was so intense that she couldn’t even look at the artwork of Kaiser she'd created. She stared at the ceiling of her room. Would her life turn out any better if she became a speck of dust? Her phone kept vibrating, but she was too scared to look; after all, Kaiser would be the only one talking to her anyway.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, ruining her train of thought.
“What!” Ness yelled.
“Get up! One of your friends keeps banging on the door, and it’s disrupting my studies,” muttered her elder brother.
“What does she look like?” Ness groaned, putting on her sweatpants. She was only in her underwear beforehand.
“Uh, a hot blonde.”
Ness felt her eyebrows twitch as she slugged out of bed. She hated getting up, especially like this. Tugging on her oversized “Slipknot” shirt. She got out of bed and walked to her room door, unlocking it. She walked down the steps, pushing past her elder brother. Soon, Ness reached her front door and opened it.
Fuck
Ness could feel the migraine bubbling in her head. The person who’d burned a mark on her side. The person who clearly doesn’t have sympathy for anyone but herself. The person who could take out her beating heart and eat it, blood and all, stood outside the door.
Ness stepped outside, shutting the door. It was sunset, and the air was getting colder considering it was the month of April. The pink and orange hues of the sky painted a beautiful backdrop for Ness as she took a deep breath, feeling a sense of calm wash over her. But that sense of calm was short-lived.
“What the fuck are you doing at my house!?”
“You look bare without all that gothic shit,” replied Kaiser.
“I don’t do goth makeup.” Ness sighed. “Everyone keeps mixing it up! I'm more into punk style."
Kaiser crossed her arms and stared back at Ness.
“Ugh, it’s not like you care,” she groaned. “What do you want?”
“Let me in.”
Ness stared at Kaiser in utter shock, which turned into confusion.
“No!? You smell like cigarettes, and my mom would kill me if she saw me hanging out with you.”
"But Alexis…” Kaiser breathed out. Her tone forced in order to sound distressed, faking remorse. Her voice leaked with regret she didn’t have. Kaiser’s palm slid under Ness’s shirt and grazed the side of her stomach, causing her to flinch.
“I’m sorry. You know how I get when I’m stressed.”
Ness knew all too well how Kaiser behaved under stress, but she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air. She forced a small smile, masking her own growing anxiety as she tried to reassure Kaiser that everything would be okay. Soon, Ness pulled Kaiser in closer to her, the other’s hand still resting on her side.
“What happened? Was it your dad again?”
Kaiser hesitated before nodding, her eyes avoiding Ness's. Ness could see the pain etched in her expression, and she knew that whatever had happened must have been truly awful for Kaiser to have acted that way. She tightened her grip on her, silently offering her support and understanding.
Kaiser wanted to laugh. She knew a little bit of sorrow would get Ness to fold...
After all, Ness was pathetic, and all she wanted was for Kaiser to see her. She wanted Kaiser to love her. She missed the times when they would kiss in secret, dreaming that they meant something more.
And Kaiser knew this thought better than anyone.
Ness craved Kaiser. Kaiser craved Ness.
One for love. One for comfort.
One for worth. One for obedience.
They needed each other much more than it seemed. It was a brutal attachment. Their bond was complicated, filled with a mix of desire and dependency that neither could fully understand. Kaiser knew she held power over Ness, but she also felt a deep connection that she couldn't deny. Their relationship was a tangled web of emotions that neither of them could easily escape from.
“Come inside.” Ness muttered, "Don't let my mom see you.”
⋆♱✮♱⋆
“Wow, your room hasn’t changed a bit since freshman year.” Kaiser muttered as she sat on Ness’s bed. Ness laid next to her. The familiarity of Ness's room brought back memories of their shared past, reminding Kaiser of the bond they had formed over the years. As they lay side by side, the complexity of their relationship became even more apparent, with unspoken emotions lingering between them. Kaiser’s eyes shifted around the room. On the walls were different posters. Rock bands to heavy metal bands.
The vanity was a mess of makeup, and there was a black bass guitar in the corner of the room next to the closet.
"You're such a loser." Kaiser whispered, looking down at Ness.
"I know. That's why you're my only friend."
Kaiser scoffed, but a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
"You don't have friends because you don't want them. You hate being around other people, Alexis. It stresses you out." Kaiser said, her eyes still staring down at Ness. Ness didn't look back at her. In fact, she just looked at the wall.
"I guess you could say that. But no one else gets me. Who likes someone who can't even form simple sentences in class? Someone who doesn’t talk to anyone. I’m nothing but an insecure outcast. I'm a failure, Kaiser." Ness whispered. She knew who she was. She knew that, whatever she did, she'd still fail. No matter how hard she tried, it wouldn't matter. She was too stupid to get a high-end office job or start a business. She felt like she was destined to be a disappointment.
"At least you know." Kaiser murmured. "Everyone knows I'll make it big. But, Alexis, if you stick with me, you won't have to stress about such futile things as work. All you'll need to do is listen to whatever I say."
Ness sat up. The only thing filling her stomach was love.
"You mean that? You really don't mind me by your side?"
"Of course. Who wouldn't want a pet as sorrowful as you?" Kaiser leaned closer to Ness. Their lips were so close to touching.
The praise that leaked from Kaiser's lips was incredible. It sent a chill down Ness's spine. It made her tingle; it was a feeling she couldn't get out of her head. The way her blood pumped. The way her body would heat up. The way that even in 50-degree weather, she felt as if she were in a desert.
"You want me?"
"If that's what you want to believe,"
"Then let me believe Kaiser. Prove to me that I have worth." Ness could feel the heat of Kaiser's breath on her face. She wanted to taste the lipstick that Kaiser wore. She wanted to taste every single part of her. She wanted to eat Kaiser down to the bone.
Kaiser pulled back slightly, grabbing a makeup wipe from her purse and wiping her neck. There was a purple and blue-ish bruise.
“K—Kaiser, what…?"
“Sh...This was formed as an act of love. In order to truly love others, you must hurt them just as much as you comfort them. That is how you teach others to love you just as much as you love them.”
Kaiser's words sent a chill down Ness's spine. The bruise on Kaiser's neck was throbbing with pain.
“What are you implying?”
“What do you think? I love you, Alexis. Let me show you my love. Let me give you all of my love. Let me show you what he did to me.”
Tossing the makeup wipe to the side, Kaiser’s hands wrapped around the other's throat. Ness's eyes widened in shock as Kaiser's grip tightened. "This is how I show my love," Kaiser whispered, a mixture of pain and desperation in her eyes. The room filled with silence as Ness struggled to comprehend the twisted notion of love being presented to her.
Ness felt her head beginning to spin as Kaiser forced her down; the woman's grip on her neck didn't seem to falter. Her hands clawed at Kaiser's. Small, ragged breaths were escaping her lips.
'Kaiser' she mouthed, trying to knock some sense into her. But Kaiser's eyes remained fixed on Ness, a look of possessiveness and obsession clouding her features. As Ness's vision started to blur, she realized that she was in real danger with someone who believed their twisted version of love was the only way to show affection.
Ness began to squirm, and after a few more seconds, Kaiser finally removed her hands. Gasping for air, Ness struggled to push Kaiser away, her heart pounding in fear.
"Now we're matching." Kaiser whispered. Ness reached up to touch her neck, wincing at the stinging sensation
"Yeah." Ness breathed out, her tone shaky and uncertain. "We are...”
⋆♱✮♱⋆
"Does this mean we're dating?" Ness asked. She felt many different emotions. Something in her head told her that this was probably a bad idea. But she was just as bad as Kaiser. They were meant to be.
"I suppose so." Kaiser replied, a soft grin shifting on her lips. Ness felt a mix of excitement and apprehension at the thought of officially dating Kaiser. She knew their relationship would be far from conventional, but there was a part of her that couldn't deny the connection they shared. As she looked into Kaiser's eyes, she felt a sense of belonging that she had never experienced before. Maybe, just maybe, taking this leap of faith with Kaiser was worth the risk.
"I've loved you for so long." Ness whispered. "Even if you've embarrassed me in public, hit me and whatever else. I know that you're just upset. It's not your fault." Ness muttered, fidgeting with her hands.
"I'm glad you know it's not my fault. I could never be with someone who doesn't adore my entire being. Which leads me to my last request." Kaiser lifted her hand up to Ness's face and caressed her cheek.
"I want you to help me kill my father. We'll run away with the money I've saved, and no one will know."
Ness's heart raced at the proposal, unsure of what to say. She knew the risks involved, but she also knew she couldn't live without Kaiser. "I'll do it," she finally whispered, her voice barely audible.
"That won't do. I can barely hear you. If you'll do it, I have to hear you confirm it." Ness took a deep breath and met Kaiser's gaze.
"I'll do it," she said, her voice more resolute this time. Kaiser smiled, relieved to have Ness by her side.
"Good dog." Kaiser whispered, pulling Ness into a kiss. The kiss was deep, and it made Ness's whole body burn with goosebumps. Was this what kissing God herself felt like? It made Ness crave Kaiser more than she did before. This time, there was a deeper need. She needed to taste Kaiser internally. She needed to bite Kaiser.
With the teeth God had given her, she bit into Kaiser's bottom lip, licking the blood that dripped, and continued kissing her. Ness's actions surprised even herself, but she couldn't deny the intensity of her desire for Kaiser. Kaiser felt a slight tenderness toward Alexis. It made her feel pathetic, but she enjoyed it. The sharpness of Ness’s teeth made Kaiser flinch. The pain was something that Kaiser began to devour; it was the only form of pain that she’d gone through that was somewhat enjoyable.
“Ness...” Kaiser whispered out, her voice breathy. Ness pulled away from Kaiser, licking the blood stain off her neck.
“Sorry, I got carried away,” replied Ness.
“There is no use in apologizing now. You’ve already gone and done it. Besides, dogs find it quite difficult to control who they bite.”
Ness could feel the blush on her face slowly fade away. She was confused. Was Kaiser calling her a dog in an endearing way? Or did you perceive Ness as less than human? Maybe Kaiser called her a dog simply because she clung to her, just like a dog clings to its owner. Kaiser had always been hard to decipher. Though Alexis felt a sense of pride simply because she could digest who Kaiser was.
Kaiser was a withered rose. She was something that was once so beautiful—something so bright and lovely, now filled with nothing but disdain because the world around her polluted her stems. Alexis had nothing but sympathy for Kaiser, yet she’d never show this sympathy to him. Kaiser hated it when others pitied her. She was strong enough to handle herself; she’d been living for this long. Why would she need others to feel bad for her? Kaiser’s withered petals weren’t the only thing that made her seem unlovable; it was also the thorns that grew.
If anyone was to pick Kaiser, her harsh demeanor and unlikable personality would stick with them, and they’d throw her to the side. Just like how thorns protect roses, these characteristics protected her.
If she knew she was unwanted, then she’d never have to dream about being wanted.
“Kaiser?” Ness asked.
“Hm…?” Kaiser replied, snapping out of her thoughts.
“When should we kill him?”
“As much as I’d like to say today, we don’t have enough resources.” Kaiser sighed. She glanced at Ness, noticing the determination in her eyes. "But soon," she added with a sly smile. "Very soon."
“I’ve saved up a bit. Money from birthday parties and stuff like that.” Ness mumbled.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Well, we’ll need plane tickets, right?” Ness said, a small smile forming on her face. "We can fill out some paperwork. Move out of this nowhere town." Ness wrapped her arms around herself; she could already envision a life with Kaiser. A life without her nagging parents, where she could finally have some kind of peace instead of being the center of their constant criticism.
"It'll take a lot of time." Kaiser replied.
"I'm willing to wait."
“Promise me that.”
Ness lifted her hand to her lips and bit her finger. After piercing her flesh, she showed Kaiser the wound.
“Drink, this is my promise to you."
And that is what Kaiser did.
⋆♱✮♱⋆
Ness took up a few part time jobs, and Kaiser did the same. If they saved up enough, then they could run away together. They’d be able to bathe in each other's essence for the rest of eternity. So, both of the women worked hard. On Sundays, they’d count their money, hoping they’d be able to purchase the tickets. Then, on August 10th, while counting their money together like always, they’d finally had enough.
Kaiser sat still next to Ness. Ness sat still next to Kaiser. The radio played in the background, the only thing disturbing the silence between them. As music played in the background of Ness's small bedroom, the two of them embraced each other until the clock hit 12. Ness held Kaiser close to her chest, their bodies sticky with sweat.
" I can't believe it's already midnight," Ness whispered. "We'll have to leave soon. I've already packed our bags; I just hope we can leave without anyone asking questions." Ness said, looking around the room anxiously.
"Go shower." Kaiser said this as Ness let go of her and made her way to the bathroom. Lucky for them, no one was around to see them leave. In fact, Ness's parents, as well as her siblings, were out of town for a while. Research Purposes. When Alexis left the bathroom, Kaiser went in. It was a quick shower, mainly because their main goal was to kill her father. Ness had already changed and was now spending her time buying plane tickets.
"You ready?" Kaiser asked as she got changed.
"Mhm," Ness replied.
They both wore all black and gloves, carrying her suitcase and a backpack filled with the necessary tools for the job. Ness and Kaiser had meticulously planned every detail of their mission to eliminate Kaiser's father. As they left the house, they knew there was no turning back. They were prepared for whatever obstacles may come their way. Kaiser knew the house like the back of her hand and had no trouble getting them both inside, slipping melatonin into her father's beer bottles and watching from the sidelines as he drunk from them and passed out. Ness kept a lookout as Kaiser struggled to drag her father's body to the bathroom.
She filled the tub up with cold water and stripped him of his clothes, a look of pure disgust on her face. Ness handed Kaiser the razor blade, knowing what needed to be done to make it look like an accident. Kaiser forced her father into the bathtub and waited for his unconscious body to settle. Picking up the Razor blade, Kaiser pressed it into his wrist, slitting it the long way to ensure more blood was released. The house was quiet, except for the water that dripped from the sides of the tub. Ness just watched as Kaiser backed away from the body and left the blade on the floor. Ness could feel her heart racing as she realized the gravity of what they had just done. She knew there was no turning back now.
In her father's handwriting, Kaiser forged a suicide note and left it right next to the body. Soon, both of them left the scene and went back to Ness's house to change and rest. Kaiser couldn't tell what she was feeling. Was she really guilty for what she had done? Sure, he was a shy father. But he was her only father. As they sat in silence, Ness could see the conflict in Kaiser's eyes. It was clear that this act had taken a toll on both of them, despite the circumstances.
Kaiser couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that lingered after what they had just done. She knew that their lives would never be the same again, no matter how justified their actions may have seemed in the moment. As they sat in silence, Ness reached out and took Kaiser's hand, offering silent support in their shared turmoil.
A few hours later, the two of them left.
They knew they had to face the consequences of their actions, but they also knew they would face them together, as a united front. The weight of their decision hung heavy in the air as they walked away, but they found solace in each other's presence.
For a hound would follow its owner to the end of the earth.
