Work Text:

While Theo had practically been bouncing on his toes the whole day, Harry had been the complete opposite. Anybody Harry had ever brought home, his parents had disapproved of. Ginny Weasley? Too Wild. Hannah Abbott? Too boring. Roger Davies? Too serious. It was the anxiety of his relationship crumbling post meeting the parents that had caused Harry to not only take a break from dating, but to also be completely hesitant in introducing Theo to Lily and James.

Harry and Theo had been in different houses in school, only crossing paths a few times. It wasn’t until both of them ended up as Aurors at the Ministry did they get to know each other. When Ron inevitably decided that being an Auror wasn’t for him and left the force to help his brothers run the joke shop, Theo had ended up Harry’s new partner. At first, it was great how well they worked in sync, both of them not afraid to skirt along the rules for the greater good. Then, Theo got injured on the field (it wasn’t a terrible injury, but an injury all the same,) and Harry realized that the reason he was so panicked when he found out Theo was in St. Mungo’s was because he had feelings for the other man. He had also been completely oblivious to the fact that those were reciprocated feelings and the two of them began dating shortly after.

Now, they had been together for over a year and Harry could not put off the inevitable any longer. It was easy at first, to keep Theo from his parents. Harry could easily lie and say Theo was working, that they rarely had the same days off-heck, he hadn’t even told his parents he was dating somebody new until almost eight months into their relationship.

But, when Molly had accidentally let it slip to Lily she had already met the ‘wonderful, vivacious young man’ that was currently dating her son, Harry knew the jig was up, his excuses had run dry, and he possibly had hurt his mothers’ feelings that his best friends’ mum had met Theo before her.

So, Harry made dinner plans with his parents and informed them that Theodore would be joining them-and they were to be on their best behavior.

Hand in hand, the two of them apparated to Godric’s Hollow, Theo already buzzing with excitement. Parents loved him, even parents that never seemed to like their children’s friends, and he had assured Harry over and over that this dinner would be a good thing. Theo gave Harry’s hand a squeeze as Harry rang the doorbell, his other hand holding an apple pie (a pie he had practically begged Pansy to help him make. Cook, he was. Baker? Absolutely not.)

When the door opened, the two were greeted by James’ warm smile, immediately pulling his son into a hug, shaking Theo’s hand as he introduced himself, ushering them inside.

“Here, let me take that,” James insisted, retrieving the pie from Theo’s hands. “Looks delicious, I’ll let your mum know you’re here,” the man headed off toward the kitchen. Theo looked at Harry, a low whistle coming from him.

“That’s your dad? He’s fit as fuck,” Theo grinned cheekily. Harry groaned, rolling his eyes. “Theo, please.” The brunette only chuckled.”I mean, but his arse, in those jeans,” Theo playfully bit his knuckle. Harry huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. “Stop ogling my dad,” he insisted, trying not to pout like a child, Theo only took it as a way to tease Harry further.

“Harry, love. Are you going to look like that when we’re older?” Theo’s eyes gleamed with mischief. “Everybody in school did say how you looked just like your dad at that age.”

“Nott,” Harry warned. Theo leaned forward, kissing Harry softly. “I’m only teasing love, you know you’re stuck with me.” Theo kissed him again, Harry sighing contently as he kissed him back.  “See if I stay with you that long,” Harry teased, knowing he was absolutely smitten with the brunette. “If you even survive this dinner. My parents have never liked anybody I’ve brought home, then they make it impossible to continue dating them,” Harry grumbled a bit at his own statement.

“That’s because they were waiting for you to bring home me,” he laced his fingers with Harry’s. “Now, let’s go introduce me to your mum. Is she hot too?”
