Poor Little Cricket Just Wanted To Have Fun

Summary:

What if…enough hits from the Trasheroids was enough to cause Cricket’s helmet to crack and cause the boy to die?

Notes:

Yeah I’m gonna be real.

I love Big City Greens so much! Which also includes the movie.

And boy was that movie a masterpiece!

It’s got everything, the animation, the voice acting, heck even the songs slaps.

But even though this movie’s really good, it did traumatised the Greens family.

Especially Cricket.

Who if you guys forgotten is 10 years old.

Yeah you heard me!

A 10 year old boy who snapped at his father by saying “I don’t like you” to him, was sent floating around in outer space separated from his whole family, went inside the trash chute to get the backup beam and nearly died in the vacuum of space when the trasheroid field came back for revenge!

{calms down}

Nuff said, enjoy another what if scenario where I traumatise another 10 year old boy some more.

What’s wrong with me.

Side Note: this fanfic contains spoilers for the movie, and If you haven’t seen it yet.

I advised you do before reading this.

You have been warned.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

After making their way to the control room with Alice having to sacrifice her cyber leg to have the door stay open,

The Greens Family including The Commander Colleen Voyd were shocked to see that the laser attack from the robots destroyed the tracker beam’s controls.

Which is the only way to save Big City from getting destroyed by a Asteroid.

“{sigh} Their laser destroyed the controls.” Colleen said.

“Don’t tell me we came all this way to the beamy-ma-bob ain’t even gonna work.” Alice Green said angrily.

“The beam’s still operational but it’s pointed in the wrong direction. With th controls blasted, we need a different way to get the tractor beam into position” Colleen said while looking at the computer.

Then she points at a trash chute with the family looking at it.

“Ah-ha! All right, Greens. {kicks the hatch open} You’re gonna blast me out into open space through this trash chute. It’s risky but once I reach the tractor beam, I can manually move it into position, target the asteroid and..” The Commander said while trying to squeeze into the chute.

Only to realise that she’s too big to get inside of it

And while the other family members try to figure out a different way to save Big City, {like Bill telling everyone to get back to the Kludge}

Cricket decides that in order to undo the damages he caused to his family, their road trip and Big City,

He will go inside the Trash Chute alone and save Big City.

“There has to be another way!” Bill said in a scared tone.

“There is.” Cricket said while inside the trash chute.

Causing the other family members including Colleen to see this.

As they are shocked to see what the 10 year old boy is doing.

“But it’s kind crazy. Sorry dad.” Cricket said to his family {mainly Bill}

While putting the space helmet on his head.

And although everyone tries to stop him, Cricket pushes the button.

“No!” Bill said in a worried tone of voice.

And then the 10 year old boy gets sent into back of the Space Hotel.

Much to everyone’s worries for him.

Including Bill’s worries and guilt for his son.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
While floating around in space, Cricket managed to grab the ladders of the tractor beam.

Much to everyone’s relief.

“Whoo! You can do it boy!” Alice said while being glad that her grandson is safe.

“See, Papa? Cricket’s doin fine.” Tilly said to her father.

“You’re right. Never doubted him for a second.” Bill said while still worrying about his son and holding onto Colleen’s shoulder really tightly.

“Mr. Green, you’re hurting me.” Colleen said to the father.

“Oh, sorry.” Bill said.

Meanwhile, Cricket starts to make his way to the steering wheel that’s on the tractor beam.

While hearing everything that’s going on in the space helmet Via the intercom.

“All right. I made it. Tell me what to do.” Cricket asked the commander.

“There’s a steering wheel on the back of the beam. Give it a few turns and I’ll tell you when to stop.” Colleen said in the intercom.

And so following her orders, Cricket began to turn the wheel a few times.

Until eventually she tells him to stop.

With the tractor beam now pointing at the asteroid,

Colleen presses the button which turns it on.

And even though it did gave Cricket a bit of violent shake, it was all worth it for the beam to hit the asteroid.

“We have a successful lock.” Colleen said heroically.

“Yay!” Alice and Tilly both said.

“Oh. Okay Cricket, get back inside right now.” Bill tried to say to his son.

But then Colleen notices something odd.

And then realises that the asteroid is still heading towards Big City.

“Wait! The asteroid is still racing towards Big City at an incredible speed.” Colleen said.

“What? But I did the thing. Why didn’t it work?” Cricket asked the commander in a worried tone.

“Pulling in a courtesy shuttle is one thing. But the tractor beam isn’t powerful enough to stop a giant asteroid.” Colleen replied.

“All those people.” Alice said in a worried tone.

“Our home.” Tilly also said in a worried tone.

“Mum. {punches the steering wheel.} Dang it! I’m not letting that thing crush Big City Colleen! What can we do?” Cricket asked in anger.

He waits for her answer until eventually she finds something that will stop the asteroid from hitting Big City.

“Cricket, see the switches on the side of the beam? To stand any sort of chances against the asteroid, we have to tap into the beam’s power reserves.” Colleen said the 10 year old boy.

“On it!” Cricket said.

And so he proceeds to pull the first switch.

And even though it did nearly caused him to start floating again, he was able to hold on.

“Nice job. Now make your way to the second switch.” Colleen said.

And then she tells both Alice and Tilly to cut the lights.

While also telling them that they need to give the controls all the power they got.

And once their gone,

It leaves only the father and son to patch things up with their relationship in the dark.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
Bill and Cricket Green always had a bit of a rocky relationship.

And although their relationship was not that rocky in the countries.

At Big City, oh boy that is another story to tell.

Sometimes they love each other.

Sometimes they argue with each other.

And although he was angry at Cricket for taking the family to Space,

He was also in the wrong for making Cricket angry about going on the exact same road trip as last year.

But then when he heard his son told him back at the space farm asteroid that he doesn’t like him.

This causes Bill to feel guilty about the argument they had and that Cricket’s ideas are not that good or safe.

So he decides to patch up their relationship by apologising to his son.

While Cricket decides to do the same thing with his father.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
“Hey, Dad?” Cricket asked his father.

“Yes, What is it, son?” Bill also asked.

Even though he’s never been a fan of apologising before,

Cricket was too sad and guilt ridden to be hesitated about it.

“I just….i just wanted to say I’m sorry for what i said to you on the asteroid. And for all of this. I just wanted the family to have the best vacation.” Cricket replied to his father while trying to turn on the second switch.

“I know you did.” Bill said while also having a sad look on his face.

“If I hadn’t hijacked our trip, none of this would have happened. And you would’ve kept us safe like you always do. Everything would be better if I wasn’t…..if I wasn’t so.” Cricket tried to say,

But not before his hands get caught on the switch, causing him to be in pain.

While Colleen comes back to check on how everything’s doing.

“The asteroid is slowing down, but we need more power.” The commander said.

Bill looks at what Colleen’s doing, then he looks back at where his son is.

“It’s okay Cricket. I hear you. I, I may keep the family safe. But I know that playing everything safe can be dull.” Bill said while giving a short chuckle.

Leading to Cricket to also give his dad a chuckle too.

“But you, you keep things exciting. Without you, this family wouldn’t be the same. You’re bold, creative and you take big leaps.” Bill said to his son.

“You mean that?” Cricket asked.

“With all my heart.” Bill said happily.

And now with father and son have silently reconciled with each other,

This gives Cricket the strength he needs to pull the second switch.

“It’s working! The asteroid is slowing.” Tilly said happily.

“We just need a bit more power. Cricket, make your way to the final switch.” Colleen said to the 10 year old boy.

“Got it!” Cricket said with a brave tone of voice.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
But then just when he was about to pull the final switch,

Suddenly a boot smacks him in the face!

Causing Cricket to nearly fall off.

“What the?” He said with a confused tone of voice.

Until he sees that not only has the tractor beam is pulling the asteroid,

It also grabbed bits of the trasheroid field.

“Oh, no. The trasheroid field!” Cricket said in a scared tone of voice.

And once the many trashes get into the beam, they start hitting the tractor beam.

Before eventually they start to hit Cricket.

And while he did tried to dodge them, it was all for not.

As after getting hit by 3 times, he then gets hit by a junk car.

Which proceeds to hit the platform.

Causing Cricket to hold onto what’s left of it.

Until eventually after getting hit by more stuff.

He notices a crack on his space helmet.

And before thing’s couldn’t get any worse,

A broken hair drying hit his space helmet.

Causing it to fully crack,

And Cricket to lose conscious,

But not before he says.

“Dad, I’m sorry. I can’t do it.”

And then everything went black.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
“Cricket!” Bill, Alice and Tilly said in horror.

They just watched a member of their family lose conscious after his space helmet has been broken from the trashes.

And while the others figure out what to do, Bill still looks on in horror after witnessing his son saying his last words to him.

While pretending that everything’s ok.

“It’ll be ok son! It’ll be ok! Because, because, I just got a crazy idea.” Bill said to himself.

Causing everyone to hear and be surprised about what he just said.

But before that could ask him anything,

Bill grabs Cookie out of Tilly’s arms.

And yeets it at the control room’s windows.

Much to everyone’s shock.

“Uh, Papa?” Tilly said in confusion.

And then Bill ties Alice, Tilly and Colleen up in a rope to stop them from drifting away in space again.

While also putting their space helmets on.

“Bill, what are you doing?” Alice asked her son.

Then everyone watches as Cookie is now making the glass window crack.

“Goin, on vacation.” Bill replied before putting on his own space helmet.

And once the glass window breaks, Bill starts flying to where Cricket and the tractor beam are.

While the others were able to avoid drifting away in space again.

With Tilly being delighted that Cookie is still ok.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
While making his way up to the tractor beam,

Bill sees a giant sign and grabs onto it.

Then he uses it as a shield to block out the other trashes while also making his way to Cricket.

And while he’s still worried that his son might be dead,

He’s glad that Cricket still managed to hold on tight.

“And before you ask me, I’m doing what I do best. Keeping you safe.” Bill said to his {hopefully{ unconscious son.

Before he flys back to where the final switch is.

And while he knew that the giant sign is not gonna handle the trashes for too long.

Bill was able to make it to the final switch.

And it was really hard for him to pull it,

Because he has to both worry about his son and the trashes.

“Come on, boy.” Alice said while she, Tilly, Cookie and Colleen watches the whole thing.

Until eventually he was able to gain enough strength.

“Cricket, I know you’re unconscious. But look at me.” Bill said to Cricket.

By showing his unconscious son that his fun meter has gone up due to their space vacation together.

And then he pushes the final switch, causing the tractor beam to pull the asteroid of out earth.

Thus saving Big City.

But while the citizens are celebrating not dying, {including Bill’s divorced wife Nancy and the Greens’ other friend Gloria Sato}

Bill makes his way back to the inside of the space hotel,

While still carrying the unconscious 10 year old boy in his arms.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
Bill doesn’t know what happened next, as everything after that was a blur.

Due to him still worrying if Cricket is even still alive or not.

But what he did remember was that the asteroid was going to hit the space hotel due to the tractor beam pulling it to the building.

Then the Greens were able to get the visitors to the escape pods thanks to Cricket’s friend Remy Remington and his family helping them with doing the conga dance.

Then they all said goodbye to Colleen,

But not before Tilly gave her slime friend Cookie to the commander to help her in her quest for a better tomorrow.

And then they all escape the space hotel in the now flying space kludge.

Until the asteroid hits the space hotel, causing it to be destroyed.

Much to Gwendolyn Zapp’s dismay while in her space rocket in the distance.

Then after Bill stops the kludge in a safe place in outer space.

And while the family knew that Cricket isn’t breathing, they want to know if Cricket really is still alive.

But when Bill checked his son’s pulse, he came to a horrifying conclusion.

That Cricket’s heart stopped after his space helmet broke.

Meaning that the 10 year old boy is now dead.
————————————————————————————————————————————————
This causes all of them to panic, as they didn’t want anyone in their family to die.

And sure Cricket had a lot of near death experiences {which we see one in the episode Hurt Bike}

But this time was different.

This time, he was gone for good.

But Bill doesn’t want to believe that.

And even though he’s a farmer, not a doctor or a lifeguard.

He surprisedly know how to do CPR.

And even though it did disgusted him that he has to do mouth to mouth on his own son,

It was the only way for the resuscitation procedure to work.

While Tilly and Alice watches in worries and hopefulness.

With Bill trying to lighten up the mood by telling a joke to Cricket.

“Hey son, you know what’s even better then stayin in a Space Hotel? Watches one blow up. Wasn’t it awesome?” Bill asked while holding back his tears.

As even though the two argue a lot,

Bill loved his son, and wouldn’t be able to live with himself if one of his family members died.

Mainly Cricket.

But then after 5 rounds of CPR, he family hears a noise.

“Cricket? Is that you brother?” Tilly asked.

And it was, as Cricket began to gasp and cough for air,

Much to everyone’s relief and happiness to see that he’s alive now.

With Bill being glad to see and hear that his son’s heart is beating again.

Then after Cricket stopped coughing, he sees his family and is confused about them being in the kludge.

“What happened? Did we stopped the asteroid? Is Big City saved?” Cricket asked.

Hearing his son say that, causes Bill to put his hand on Cricket’s shoulder.

“Yes son, Big City is saved. Plus I kinda have to hand it to you Cricket, even though we almost died.” Bill tried to say before being interrupted.

“Several times.” Tilly said.

“Totally worth it.” Alice also said.

“My fun meter has never encountered this much fun.” Bill said but not before hugging his son in joy.

“Me neither.” Tilly said while joining in on the hug.

“I’ve had better. But this is nice.” Alice said while also joking in on the hug.

Thus turning the hug between a father and son,

Into a group hug between all of the 4 members of the Greens Family.

With Cricket enjoying it the most.

As even though he did died and mostly might have to go to some therapy session right now.

It was all worth it to see that his family had a lot of fun during this spacecation.

Including his dad Bill.

Notes:

Boy never knew that what if scenario took to long.

But yeah, I’m gonna say it.

This movie is on the same level as the Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie!

Don’ believe me?

Well look at how similar the scene from the Big City Greens movie where Bill and Cricket had an arguement on the asteroid,

And the scene from the ROTTMNT Movie with Casey Junior berating Leonardo for not being a good leader are with each other!

But yeah never knew this Disney channel movie would be better then the other Disney movies that came out last year or this year

{except for Inside Out 2, I enjoyed it too}

But yeah, thank you all for reading yet another what if scenario with a father and son relationship.

And I’ll see you all next time with more.

{Does a Gwendolyn Zapp impression} Bye!
