Presence of Asphodel.

Summary:

With a heavy heart, he rang one of his servants into the room. A petite girl with long, platinum hair entered the room within a second, her face stiffened once she looked up to see Rui’s expression. Her gloved hands reached for the hem of her skirt, crumpling the silky fabric as the first demon turned to look at her. “Do we still have that boy in the dungeon?” was the first thing that came out of his mouth, a gasp leaving the servant’s. “If you’re talking about the split hai–”

“Yes, him. Of course, I'm talking about him. Is he still in his cell?” he interfered with the girl’s sentence, his words almost as sharp as blades.

Work Text:

A pair of thin, sharp eyes softened their gaze at the sight of a nearby cage. The demon's tail slowly waved from side to side, his gloved fingers slowly went down the window's clean glass as a sigh left his lips.

The room is filled with an angel’s many portraits, statues that capture each detail of his delicate beauty, and most importantly, a big picture of the angel himself framed right in the middle of the room. The demon’s hand grasped at the tiny figure away from him, a smile slowly tugging the sides of his lips as he grabbed the bouquet of astragalus’ and white chrysanthemums that lay delicately on his desk.

The demon made his way towards a long and quiet hallway, chamber doors waiting at the end of the hall. Vines and sprouting flowers decorated the doors, the vines wrapping themselves on the bronze circular handles as the flowers helped color the dim palette of the doors themselves.

His hands vigorously shook the cage’s bars, his efforts boring no fruit as his hands fell onto his lap, his fingers gripping at the silk fabric of his pants. The chamber was dimly lit, only having a light to cast over the cage; to cast a spotlight onto him. His shoulders dropped, his wings laying on the concrete ground, and his head hung low as he heard the chamber doors open.

A soft, silky voice called out to him, he could only recognize it as the demon who captured him. The doors slammed shut, creating a force of wind that flowed through his hair, forcing him to see clearly. His pained expression was now obvious to see for the demon, his tail slowing down its movements as his shoes marked the pathway towards the cage.

The demon kneeled down, one knee laying on the ground as his left foot accompanied it, standing firmly as he faced the angel in the cage. His halo emerged a soft glow onto his face, highlighting the angel’s sharp yet delicate features well. His hand reached to touch his face, only for the angel to shift his head away from his hand. The demon pulled a bouquet from behind him, showing the angel the collection of flowers he had picked for him.

The angel eyed the flowers in front of him, his eyes redirecting themselves towards the demon, glaring daggers at him. He slapped the bouquet away, making the demon wide-eyed as he took his hand back.

“My angel—”

“Don't call me that!” He yelled, not letting the demon finish his sentence. He watched as his demeanor changed, he looked more visibly upset than before, but then again, when were demons truly happy?

He could feel the atmosphere changing, the air beginning to feel heavy. Before he could comprehend, the chamber doors slammed shut as quickly as they opened, leaving the angel alone once again.

The demon rushed through the halls, each step of his slammed loudly against the tiles below. His tail hung low, stiffening itself the more he walked toward his sacred room, the room where he originally admired the angel. With a swift movement, he swung the door open and slammed it shut. All pent-up fury he had been hiding, all the regret and ‘what if’s he had occurred to secure Tsukasa in his castle, all the ignorance he’d been trying to pull off with his former peers, they were all let out as a burst of emotions that Rui himself could not control.

With his vision becoming blurry and his eyelashes feeling heavy from the tears he had been careful not to let out, he took another glance at the cage, seeing how his bouquet was still near the angel; who continued refusing to touch any of its petals.

The servant gave a slight nod, her reaction was a bit more hesitant as she muttered out a quiet ‘yes’. His shoulders lifted ever so slightly, his usual grin returning itself onto his face as he commanded the girl to prepare another gift for the angel.

The sound of pitter-patter escaped the room, just before she exited, he could’ve sworn he noticed her blue eyes filled with more guilt than usual. He would contact a dear friend of his, that friend being none other than his childhood friend, Nene, but he couldn’t. At least not in the state she’ll be in after what he’s about to do.

He turned his head towards the window once more, this time noticing the blond weeping in his cage with his hands only given the role to catch the tears that fell onto his (used to be) pristine white pants. The angel looked even more beautiful than usual, his tears becoming a replacement for the sun as they made his face glow, his hands that rested on his lap as his palms were open and facing upwards, his long and silk hair that was tied into a ponytail slowly let loose, letting the once neat and clean hair turn into a wave of locks that covered some of his face.

Although the beauty deeply pains his heart, almost too deeply. His hand reached out to the silhouette of the man, who looked so small and docile from his perspective that it almost made him want to smother him so that he couldn't face the dangers outside of his cage (even if the danger was himself).

Oh well, he'll just call it a day for now.

With a shift movement of his foot, he turned his body at around 180°, his eyes forcibly torn from the sight of his angel and his rejection of his bouquet he spent long hours preparing the right flowers for.

With a dejected look on his face, he exits his office, a sigh leaving his mouth as it did when he went to where the angel had been resting.

ㅤׂ︵︵ 𓈒 ✿ 𓈒 ︵︵ㅤׂׂ

It was yet another day, the demon still held closely to the figure that was so far away from him. This time, he'll make sure he can snatch his heart.

“Don't worry, my dear, you'll soon see how perfect of a match we are..” He muttered under his breath, his glove sliding down the glass as a smirk developed sneakily on his mouth.

Although, the smirk quickly left his face as his expression turned blank, the only thing left to do is to call his servant and prepare his surprise for his dearest.

ㅤׂ︵︵ 𓈒 ✿ 𓈒 ︵︵ㅤׂׂ

A hiss left his mouth as his stomach grumbled, he hadn't realized how starved he truly was.

He kept rejecting the meals the demon and his servants had brought, even those from the same devils that he realized weren't like that bastard that captured him. He knew he should've accepted the fresh, warm food whilst he was in the cold cell, but his dignity felt like it was on the line if he had accepted the meals. Never once will he be willing to eat them.

The familiar sound of the chamber doors opening rang in his ears, signalling him that the demon had come back for more rounds of arguing. But, this time he had noticed that the demon had something.. In his hand. Something small that couldn't be seen.

His body automatically backed up once he came closer to the cage, his lovesick eyes had the same disgusting effect on him, which was making him sick to his stomach to the point he could vomit from how bone chilling it was.

“I've brought something for you, Tsukasa.” The sweet voice announced, only receiving a scowl in return. “I'm sure you'll like it.”

The demon had revealed a pendant, one so beautiful that the angel would almost cherish it. His eyes glared over the pendant, it had his signature colors; white, blue, and orange.. It was almost endearing, really.

Although he turned his head away from the precious trinket, a huff escaped the blond as the demon had returned his dejected look once more.

Even if he couldn't see both of his eyes, he still could see the hurt he had in his eye. The hurt he wished would multiply by an infinite amount of times.

Instead of a breakdown, which the angel had expected to happen, the demon simply clapped his hands, the sound quite muffled with the gloves covering his hands yet it was still loud enough for the vacuous chamber.

The doors soon opened with not only one familiar figure, but two.

The eyes of the angels widened, his messy hair clear that he was trapped just like him, with his baggy eyes and gloomy expression stuck permanently on his face.

“Aoyagi Toya?”

“Present, Sir.”

Toya was always a kid that kept his prestige image, from his nearly combed split hair to his clean and polished shoes, he was perfect.

Tsukasa always wanted to be as perfect as the boy was effortlessly. Admiration always filled his eyes whenever he looked at him, always wanting to know how he could always be so.. Him. So polite, so kind, and so, so caring. He always said he looked up to him, which of course, he did, as Tsukasa was a star, but he couldn't bring himself to say that he didn't look up to the younger as well.

He looked into the eyes of the taller, the latter smiling at him with perfect straight, white teeth showing themselves to him.

He looked into the same eyes again, this time a hiss went through his gritted teeth as his mouth formed a scowl. His eyes were dark, as they always were but this time they were almost void-like, lacking any brightness or light in them.

He pitied the sight in front of him, almost calling out to him to apologise for the situation he had put him in.

“Tsukasa, will you accept my love?” The demon interrupted the purging silence, a soft smile on his lips that showed that he wasn't at all guilty for what he had done.

“Never, not in a million years! Not when you've.. You've captured Toya and brought him into this!”

A sigh left through the demon's nose, his eyes redirected themselves towards Kanade who begrudgingly fisted the hem of her skirt, a nod was a given response from her.

The angel looked at the both of them, unsure of what they're signalling about until…

Thump

“..Toya?”

No, no.. It can't be..

“Toya?!”

“Toya!” The angel screamed his heart out, his hands bolted towards the cage's bars as he came forward to look at the now corpse of the little brother he once knew so well.

Sobs filled the hollow chamber, the servant scrunched up her eyebrows as the demon's started to raise them, his shoulders dropping slightly at the body of the previous angel.

It seems like Tsukasa isn't in the mood right now, let's try again tomorrow.

ㅤׂ︵︵ 𓈒 ✿ 𓈒 ︵︵ㅤׂׂ

Tomorrow flew faster than he had expected, the demon already woke up bright and early and he could've sworn birds also started singing once he had woken up. Today was the day.

He combed his hair precisely, once he had deemed his hair perfect for his angel, he glanced towards the angel he had in mind. Still curled up into a ball in his cage, it tugged on his heart strings.

He grabbed the bouquet of astragalus’ and white chrysanthemums that laid beautifully on his desk, beautifully for the angel he was about to court.

Rui skipped towards the chamber, his door closed without a hitch as he set off to meet his beloved.

Small pitter-patter entered the chamber room, his smile going ear to ear as his angel noticed him getting closer and closer towards the cage.

This time, he had opened the cage door and entered the circle of metal with his angel. His hands extended to give it to him and lo and behold, his angel finally took it in his arms.

“Tsukasa.. I knew you'd come ar—” a splatter interrupted him mid sentence, something warm and thick coated his face and clothes as his hand reached out to what was on his face, blood.

Blood of the angel he held so precious to him.

His lips parted open, his eyes widened at the sight of his beloved that laid on the floor, his hands holding the sharp end of the pendant he had given him yesterday.

Tears snuck out from his eye ducts, rolling fastly from the corners of his eyes to his chin and down to his clothes, the red from his blood mixing with some droplets.

He dropped to his knees, his back arching forwards as he held the hand of his beloved, the first and last time he held his hand with his.

His cries filled the room, the flowers surrounding the cage were his only company in the cold cell.

His hat fell down on top of Tsukasa's head, hiding the body as if it were a plastic to cover bodies.

He held the hand close to his lips, he had finally gotten to kiss the soft knuckles of the angel, but at what cost?
