Work Text:
To say it was an absolutely boring afternoon was an understatement. Gigi sighed as she sat in her bed, tail swaying behind her. Usually by this time in the day, the gremlin would be up and about, either finding some other justice member to bother or further building her stamina. But today she was stuck sitting in bed, just like she had been for days before. She groaned as a pain in her side surged, glancing down to her bandaged side.
She should probably replace the bandages….
But instead of standing up to do that, Gigi simply groaned and flopped down on her bed, ignoring the additional pain the action caused. Her pink eyes quickly lifted to the picture frame on her nightstand. From how hard she was glaring at the picture inside the frame, you would think she was trying to burn a hole through the glass with just her eyes. However Gigi wasn’t just glaring at the picture itself, but instead a specific person in the picture.
That person being…
Cecilia Immergreen.
It wasn’t like Gigi hated her, but she was just really annoyed with her right now. More than usual, anyways. Sure, it wasn’t really Cecilia’s fault in retrospect but still..! Just thinking back on that day in general made her annoyed!
—
It was supposed to be a simple field job, at least that was what Gigi thought it would be. But the red flags started popping up in her brain when she realized she had been assigned the mission alongside Cecilia. Sure, duo missions weren’t completely unheard of in Justice, but when two members were assigned one job, that usually meant that it was more dangerous.
Noticing her concern, Elizabeth had ensured that it wouldn’t be an issue for their individual levels of skill combined.
However…
“CURSE YOU ELIZABETH ROSE BLOODFLAME-“ Gigi yelled out into the sky, huffing as she ran as fast as her legs could take her. Behind her, Cecilia trailed behind, also running as fast as she could. Which was…significantly slower than Gigi but she was still ahead of the people chasing them. Said people were currently shooting their way with reckless abandon. Gigi already had plenty of scratches from the few near misses she had. Cecilia had probably taken a few hits too if the sounds behind her were any indicator.
“Who knew that they would set up an ambush like that…” Cecilia hummed as she kept moving forward, occasionally glancing back at their pursuers, which only slowed her down more. Gigi groaned at her commentary, clicking her tongue in annoyance.
“Thanks captain obvious!” She grumbled sarcastically, glancing back and finally observing the sheer distance between her and Cecilia. Her eyes widened as she looked further back and saw the ever shortening distance between the guys behind them and Cecilia.
“CECE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? HURRY UP!” She scolded, not noticing herself losing momentum. Gigi should just keep focusing on running…if she gets hit by a bullet, she would be out of commission for a while. As for Cecilia, she could be back out after a day of maintenance at the most. However, the gremlin just couldn’t find it in her to push herself harder and go faster, there was some part of her urging her to slow herself down to stick with Cecilia. Cursed morals…and emotions…and-
“I can’t help it! I wasn’t built for running, I was made to be a servant!” Cecilia quipped back, her feet thumping against the stone roads they were running on. That sentence almost made Gigi feel bad for yelling at her, but the gremlin just sighed.
‘We really need to get her an upgrade…’
Gigi scoffed as she shook her head. But then, she heard the sound of something…or rather..someone falling to the ground. Without even thinking, Gigi spun around to see Cecilia on the ground, either having tripped, run out of energy, or been shot down. No matter the cause, it made Gigi feel oddly angry. More so than she thought she would if it were anyone else. But no matter why she felt so angry, the question flew to the back of her head. All reason flew out of the window the moment she moved towards Cecilia.
Within seconds, she was next to Cecilia, making a mental note to be careful with her gauntlets as she held the automaton up. Throwing her arm over her shoulder, she tried to carry her with her. It was a struggle, Gigi wasn’t really built for bearing the weight of an automaton on her shoulders. But Gigi was also not the type of person to just leave someone she cared about behind. Even if said person was testing her patience all the time!!
“Gigi?! What are you doing, you dummy! You’re gonna get hit.” Cecilia snapped, despite struggling to stand straight and actively gripping the shorter girl. She had gotten hit in the leg, the bent ‘skin’ made for an uncomfortable sight. More importantly, it put that leg out of commission
“Who are you calling a dummy!? You’re the stupid one for getting yourself hit.” Gigi growled, pulling the automaton with her as she tried to keep running, even as the sounds of footsteps behind them got louder. Cecilia scoffed, looking the other way as she reluctantly gave up and let Gigi pull her to safety, gripping the gremlin a little tighter.
“Still…I can’t really die…I would’ve been fine…but you…” She mumbled in argument, though her tone had no annoyance anymore, just pure concern. Gigi couldn’t help but frown at those words, but before she could respond, she heard the sound of a gun being shot. Well more accurately, her tail spotted a gun being pointed directly at Cecilia before the gun even went off. Without thinking, the gremlin moved herself around to where she was blocking Cecilia, yelping as the bullet connected with her, puncturing her side.
“Gigi! You idiot—“ Cecilia gasped, but couldn’t do much but watch as she was more urgently yet staggeredly pulled over to lay behind nearby cover. As soon as Gigi dropped her, she made sure her gauntlets were on properly before moving to turn around. With a sudden burst of speed, however, Cecilia reached out for the gremlin, keeping her close. Instinctively, Gigi moved to get the automaton’s hand off of her, but the sight of tears welling in her eyes made her reluctantly rest her gauntlet covered hands on top of Cecilia’s scuffed up ones.
“Gigi, you’re hurt. Please, let’s just get to a safe spot and contact Elizabeth..” She tried to reason, not able to keep her eyes off of the expanding sea of red on Gigi’s side. The gremlin seemed conflicted, she wanted to fight to physically protect both herself and Cecilia. But at the same time…she figured she shouldn’t push herself, if she were to faint during battle…
“Fine…” Gigi mumbled, reaching down to grab her phone and call Elizabeth. However…the moment she picked up….well-
All Gigi remembered was Cecilia calling to her as she summoned her weapon.
When she woke up, she was laying her head on Cecilia’s lap. The automaton was being examined by Raora, but was also absentmindedly running a hand through the gremlin’s hair. As Gigi examined her surroundings, she realized they were in Justice’s transport vehicle. Elizabeth had managed to get to them in time. Good..who knows what could’ve happened if—
—
A knock on her door pulled Gigi out of her memories. The gremlin sat up in her bed, sighing as she moved to stand up.
“Gigi..? Are you awake?” A familiar voice spoke, making Gigi pause. Ah…Cecilia, or rather, ms slowpoke!! The gremlin groaned as she stood up, carefully walking over to her door and cracking it open. On the other side of the door, Cecilia stood with some objects in her hands. Curious, Gigi opened the door fully, observing what the various objects were. But before she got a proper look at everything..
“Some snacks, water, a pillow…and new bandages! Plus what’s needed to clean the wound!….if you wouldn’t mind me doing that for you?” Cecilia listed before tilting her head at her question, not noticing the blush on the others face, nor what was on her own face…
“Cecilia…you don’t have to keep changing my bandages for me.” Gigi deadpanned, though was starting to reconsider the moment the other girl frowned. “But uhm…I appreciate the gesture, come on in…” She added, stepping to the side to let Cecilia in. Immediately, the girl smiled and walked inside. Gigi shut the door and made her way to her bed, where Cecilia had already sat down after putting the stuff she brought on a nearby table. Now she only held the bandages and alcohol for cleaning the wound. The two sat in silence for a minute before Cecilia cleared her throat.
“Would you like to just get it over with immediately?” Cecilia suggested, turning towards Gigi while she unwinded the bandages. The gremlin took a deep breath before nodding softly, being oddly silent as she bunched up her shirt to make the process of removing her bandages easier. She felt more embarrassed than normal at the fact Cecilia was watching her all the while, her face gaining a pink hue by time all the old bandages were off and piled on the floor.
“Be careful. It hurts.” Gigi murmured, seeing a nod of confirmation before looking the other way when she felt the bed dip as Cecilia got closer. The gremlin bit her lip to avoid hissing in pain as the wound got cleaned up with a gauze pad. Every move the automaton made was slow and gentle, ensuring that Gigi felt comfortable. While greatly appreciated, Gigi couldn’t stop cringing at the little surges of pain, her tail curling as she processed the pain. But thankfully, after a little longer than necessary, Cecilia pulled her hand away and discarded the gauze pads used. Gigi was able to breathe comfortably as the automaton wrapped new bandages around her wound, securing them snuggly before smiling proudly at her work. Though..as quick as the smile came, it disappeared with only a soft frown in it’s place.
“I’m sorry…” Cecilia mumbled, the crank on her head spinning slowly. Gigi perked up at that, whipping her head over at the other girl, looking at her with a raised eyebrow.
“Huh? What are you apologizing for?” Gigi questioned as she straightened out her shirt, frowning as she could clearly see the guilt plastered on her face. Ah…she must still think…-
“It was my fault you got hurt like this. I should’ve considered getting more practical upgrades before going on a field mission that was gonna be particularly dangerous” The automaton started to ramble, the gremlin beside her tried to speak up but she kept talking, “If I did…I could’ve kept up with you better, and we probably could’ve just found another spot to hide.”
Cecilia could’ve and would’ve kept rambling, but Gigi groaned and reached over to grab the automaton’s hand, holding it firm but carefully. Green eyes locked onto pink ones, and both women were blushing at the contact despite how minimal it was.
“Stop blaming yourself, you dummy. I was the idiot that decided to take a bullet for you. I could’ve dodged it, and probably could’ve helped you dodge it too…but..” The gremlin bit her lip as she glanced to the side, tail swaying in embarrassment.
“But…?” Cecilia prompted, unable to stop a small grin from returning to her face as she looked at the shorter woman expectantly. Gigi had half a mind to slap that grin off of the automaton’s pretty face, but she didn’t find the idea of more pain appealing so she just grumbled her annoyance away.
“But…I couldn’t stop my emotions from taking over. I uhm….wanted to protect you above all else. There, happy now?” Gigi suddenly seemed to find the bed covers extra intriguing, because she refused to look up and look Cecilia in the eye. Said woman was giggling at those words, not in a teasing way, surprisingly. In fact those words couldn’t have sounded any better to her, they made her feel so giddy.
“I definitely am…but I think there’s one thing that could make me happier…” Cecilia hummed in contemplation, the crank on her head once again spinning as she pretended to think. The gremlin next to her slowly raised her head, tilting it in confusion as she waited to hear what else Cecilia wanted. However, no words came from the automaton, instead, she simply brought a hand over to rest under Gigi’s chin. Slowly, she brought the gremlin up and closer to her until their faces were close enough for Cecilia to feel the other’s breath on her lips. By now, it had clicked in her brain as to what the automaton wanted, Gigi scoffed in astonishment at how blatant the other woman could be, but didn’t stop herself from leaning forward.
The release of tension in Gigi’s body was immediate as soon as their lips met. Her tail moved in a motion akin to wagging as she moved closer to deepen the kiss, smirking slightly at the surprised squeak and the following sigh of contentment Cecilia made. It’s always a joy to kiss Cecilia, her lips were surprisingly soft, and she always got flustered when they went on for longer than she was expecting. For Gigi, making her beloved overly flustered was what filled her with the most joy, aside from simply kissing Cecilia. If there was one thing the gremlin wished she could change, it would be removing the need to breathe specifically whenever she kissed Cecilia. Her cursed lungs always cut these moments too short for her liking, but as much as she hated it, she reluctantly pulled away.
“I wish I could kiss you forever.” Gigi grumbled, slumping against the automaton, letting herself practically melt into the woman as Cecilia gently ran a hand through her hair.
“I think I would overheat if that wish was a reality…” Cecilia giggled, her chest feeling weird at the small chuckle Gigi made as well. The automaton pressed a small kiss to the top of Gigi’s head as she noticed the gremlin getting sleepy. She let the smaller woman nuzzle against her, wrapping her arms around her and keeping her close. Gigi smiled softly, she felt so loved and safe in her arms, she never wanted to leave.
“Hm…I love you…” Gigi whispered, lazily lifting her head to press a kiss to Cecilia’s cheek before getting comfortable laying against her again. Her tail came around to gently wrap around Cecilia, well-, wrap around as much as it could anyways.
“I love you too, Gigi. Sleep well..” Cecilia smiled, pressing another kiss to the top of the other woman’s head before she fully dozed off. Days like these were always Cecilia’s favorite, as much as she enjoyed their playful day to day bickering, moments where they relax and get comfortable with each other were always far more enjoyable.
But in reality, Cecilia knew the obvious reason as to why she loves these days so much.
Cecilia just really loves her Gigi.
