Trivial Treasures: 31 Tiny Tales

Summary:

A walking existential crisis with a heterodox code of ethics, Kabuto Yakushi attempts to find his way in a world where winning is seemingly impossible. It’s all he can do to keep the few tiny, treasurable, redeeming moments he encounters from falling between the cracks of his notice.

Those who orbit this strange young man face their own challenges and realizations. Mourning, celebration, and neutral observation are depicted herein.

Vignettes, moods, and off-screen headcanons by UsagiTreasure, presented 100 words at a time.

Chapter Text

Kabuto pushed open the metal door to reveal a long, covered walkway suspended in overcast skies.

Takara pulled her lab coat tighter as the wind began to pick up, then peered over the rail at the jagged rocks and churning sea far below. “It’s about to storm, you know!” She yelled over the howling gales before cautiously following him across.

“Why did you build this way out here?” She asked as he opened the door to the tower on the bridge’s far end.

“I wanted it to be far from the laboratory,” Kabuto explained. “I wanted it to be home.”

Notes:

If you look up images of Kabuto's Otogakure Island Laboratory, you'll notice the long walkway and fun little tower to the far east. It's a unique feature, uncharacteristic to the rest of the place.

Am I odd to think the Island Laboratory looks quite nice in general? It also has many windows that would let in natural light and interesting geographical features. There are trees in the back, which I like to think indicates some sort of green, forested space. I headcanon that there's a beach on that side of the island, as well. Thank you so much for reading!
