Chapter 1: Mission notice

Chapter Text

Dazai was trying to fall asleep by lying on the floor of the shipping container he called home, but sleep never came easy to him.

It was currently spring, and while the weather outside wasn't usually cold, it was at midnight, and the metal walls never provided him any warmth. The inside of the container was colder than the outside.

He layed there, his body limp under his black coat, as he tried to receive any warmth he could get from it.

Mori never cared about Dazai's health or comfort, not even providing him a simple home to stay in. All Dazai got was this pathetic container, but he never complained.

Punishments for an "ungrateful brat," as Mori liked to call him, were grim. Dazai would rather shiver under his coat inside those metal walls than endure those punishments.

People had always thought Dazai's punishments were harsh, but they had never experienced Mori's "special" punishments. Dazai had to have learned the ways of his specialty (torture) from someone, right?

Dazai snuggled more into his coat and attempted to shut his eyelids to get some sleep before his phone dinged and he received a message.

His eyelids parted open. Only a few people had his phone number: Odasaku, Chuuya, Ango, Hirotsu, Akutagawa, and Mori...

He immediately fished his phone out of his pocket, hoping it would be Odasaku and not Mori like his instincts had been telling him.

His instincts were never wrong, which was usually an advantage, but Dazai really did not want to deal with Mori's bullshit.

Aaaand, lo and behold, it was Mori. Dazai was going to ignore the text and try to go back to his pathetic attempts to fall asleep.

But then curiosity got the best of him, and he decided to only read the top of the notification to find out what the bastard wanted.

It was a mission notice.

Dazai was going to ignore it, he really was. But he thought it would be better to distract himself rather than waste time lying down pathetically.

Dazai opened the notice and started to read the contents. It was an undercover mission, and Mori assigned his infamous Soukoku to it.

He chuckled to himself; his dog was surely going to get mad over working with him when he woke up in the morning.

Dazai was kind of surprised that the mission was to take place outside of Yokohama. Yokohama had been shut out from the rest of the world for hundreds of years.

The outside world thought that Yokohama was shut because the citizens were under control of what they called "villains," which Dazai found to be a pathetic name because "criminals" would be a better term.

But the outside world was mistaken. The citizens of Yokohama had more developed powers than outsiders.

To the outside, they were known as the almost quirkless, weak city with vulnerable citizens who were unable to defend themselves.

But from the inside, the evolved quirks called "abilities" that the people had compensated for the lack of people with quirks.

Quirks were known to have drawbacks due to them developing in an individual's genetics. Abilities, however, did not have drawbacks, since they were merely physical and could appear in anyone. This made abilities much stronger than quirks could ever be.

The outside world of Japan, especially in Musutafu (where the mission was assigned), would be powerless compared to any ability user from Yokohama.

Sure, Musutafu had the "number one hero" residing in it, but Dazai was aware that even his stubborn subordinate Akutagawa would be able to defeat the old man.

Knowing that fact, Dazai figured that Mori had some other motive to send the infamous Soukoku.

Dazai wanted to decline and save himself the headache, but knowing Mori, Dazai had no other choice than to accept the mission. The option to decline given to him was only an illusion Mori created to make Dazai feel less trapped.

Mori had always tried to act smart and manipulate him like that, but Dazai's mind was far beyond Mori's.

Dazai confirmed the mission notice and decided to start his research to have an idea about who they would be facing and what they should be acting as.

Dazai sighed to himself when he realized that he was now forced to learn about the outsiders' stupid justice system, which he had always deemed hopeless.

Dazai didn't even notice how fast the sun had gone up until he received a million notifications from his dog blowing up his phone.

He chuckled to himself as he read the messages of the angry chibi. This was going to be a fun mission.

Chuuya woke up at the usual time. He got up and started his morning routine of having breakfast, showering, then using his hair and skin products to look perfect just as his Ane-san taught him.

He got dressed in his fancy suit, and put on his usual hat, choker, and gloves before he checked his phone for the first time that morning.

He saw a notification from his boss's contact and figured it would be a mission notice.

He sat down to read the notice, and his face became red with anger when he noticed that the boss had assigned not just him, but the bastard Dazai, to this mission as well.

His anger was only fueled more when he realized that this mission would take place outside of Yokohama's borders, especially with outsiders.

He had to deal with them when he was with the Sheep once, and they had tried to abduct his family. Ever since then, he had a big hatred towards whoever resided outside of Yokohama's borders.

And now he found himself forced to go on an undercover mission to spy on them, which meant he would have to be on friendly terms with them! What a nightmare it was.

Chuuya figured that the only way to let out some anger was to yell at the stupid mackerel Dazai, so he started to spam his phone with angry texts, cursing him out.

The bastard had left him on seen on purpose. Chuuya wasn't having it, and he was going to give that bastard a piece of his mind before his phone dinged with a notification from his boss.

Summoning both him and Dazai to have a talk about the upcoming mission.

Chuuya wore his coat, then took off to the mafia headquarters.

Notes:

That was the end of chapter one.

I hope you enjoyed it.

Next chapter will be about Soukoku meeting Mori and understanding the objective of their mission, but Mori never lets them onto too much so they will still have to figure it out as they go.
