Melted Candy

Summary:

//NOT BETA READ

A while ago in a blurry universe the taste of cotton candy burned his mouth, the taste being so rotten and made him want to brush his teeth ten fold. But odd enough the taste now only allows him to sleep peacefully as the taste welcomes him with sweetness and softness.

OR

Ro reflect about his teammate and just how he got here, the time he spent isn’t for nothing this time

Work Text:

It was hot, that was the first thing Ro could notice when he woke up in a corner he dug the night before. Anything could happen anytime or anywhere so he made sure he had extra precautions just in case. But he left his hiding area with no issue, seeing through the spawn that was built up for months. Some craters in the ground from creepers or people he couldn’t tell. And walking through already made pathways past towers and houses built by members throughout the time spent on this world. At first the world was awkward, spawning into a fresh plate after war again was always an awkward thing. And of course this time everyone had awoken they were met with seven new people. Soon eight when another joined the day after. Months ago when Ro had stared into the blinding sun once again he didn’t know what to do, he had no set team compared to other people and he just finished standing on a pillar with Clown and Branzy relishing in their victory.

Then he closed his eyes and awoke to a new circle, and it was harsh for him. Staring at old friends that he knew like the back of his hand even with the blinding red anger it could bring, and old enemies that brought odd black coldness with memories of what once was. And he thought it would be fine until the ground below him was broken and the harsh reality of rough stone crashing into his side woke him up. That’s when he was layered in a blanket of wanting revenge even if it would’ve caused him or the one he knew so well harm, and he was gonna do it alone. That was until he accidentally walked in on sweet pink that was like cotton candy telling him to save himself and melted in front of him from the same people he wanted revenge on.

And as the cotton candy melted he felt a pang of sadness for the cotton candy that crumpled to the ground and then appeared again with sadness in her tone and sluggish movements. But when he stared at the cruel sweetness of cotton candy on ice and snow as they laughed about doors or food preferences he now knows the pink as Jumper. His teammate that he found from pure coincidence that wrapped him in cotton-filled hugs when she got excited and jumped up and down, that kicked his back with soft yet harsh feet when he would make suggestive comments, even the striking yells of fear that Jumper has when she’s running to save him from a cruel swing of metal brought him odd comfort.

The two were teammates since day one, and even now on a day that the number muddles in his head Jumper still was willingly to lay out her own throat to him if it meant he was okay. It was odd to be trusted so much at first, any call he made Jumper would respond with little back talk and just follow him. Of course Jumper herself made calls that saved his own life more times he could count, even with extra limbs. It made Ro second guess himself if the girl was betraying him since day one, but he slowly had learned that she just trusted him that much. And so he did the same, not once did he sway in trusting her actions giving her his own bones to break if she so felt the need.

But no bone breaking ever came from either of them no matter how much one had given to the other Ro never found his own bones or heart to be broken by her. That’s the only reason the first thing he does when he awakens is to walk to the cherry hill a bit far from the spawn that Jumper had built from her own hands. He remembers when she first mentioned she was going to build her own biome from the ground for her project, he thought she was crazy in a way but always found himself back helping her even if it took the more grueling hours of his life. When she finished her biome the first thing she had done was tell Ro and showed the progress that they celebrated together in their own underground base ways away from anyone’s clutches.

And soon he found himself not only doing his own things but helping Jumper build a tree from the ground up, giving an extra hand or three placing careful blossoms on floating islands, digging out the ground to the void to give her time off. And all of that led him to what he walked up to right now, a carefully dug out path covered in cherry blossoms of pink and lilac flowers placed out by himself after running from Jumper laughing about. Reaching the edge of a cliff only to step onto a sturdy placed log that reached out to the middle of the tree a small opening allowing him to enter, candles lighting the inside placed carefully on small ledges with the top of the lit candles covered by glass to still give oxygen but not burn down the place, stairs circling the edges to allow anyone to get up.

And when he reaches the dark wood flooring inside of a little room with dark green leaves hanging from the ceiling and pink carpet on the floor underneath a table he sees Jumper. She sat in one of the chairs to the left, her back turned to him, slouched forward, her head tilted to the side in her arms and Ro could see her eyes carefully closed shut small breaths shaking her body as she slept. She was almost too trusting in him to sleep back turned after asking if he could come on, but he felt comfort in the silence walking up to the side of the chair making sure Jumper was truly asleep. Then he took off his light purple cape that hid most of his body and layed it onto Jumper’s back.

Moving to the other side of the table he sat on one of the chairs' armrests, looking at the girl that not only gave herself to him but slowly made Ro give himself to her. Even if in another blurry universe they clash with explosions raining down below as pink eyes that he knows as sweet turn sour with tears building up but refusal to let them slide down, or if the feeling of weakness tears down at his limbs as he fights for his own spot in the end of the world. The current universe right now inside a tree that the two built together with laughter, tears, sweat, and blood is the one Ro personally enjoys the most. Even if soon blood will be shed onto the pink and purple petals outside the walkway, or tears will fall onto the soft carpet beneath his feet.

Ro sits on his own chair across from Jumper and closes his own eyes, content with the cotton candy taste in his mouth. The taste being not so tooth rotting as he expected, instead sweet, soft and welcoming. And he smiles.

Notes:

God these two have my heartstrings and it hasn’t even been a day?! Knowing Jumper’s whole thing is that she’s going to trust Ro 100% even if she thinks he’s betraying HURTS. These two were two of the harshest betrayal in s5 and knowing that they teamed in s6 by chance after both being killed by their former best friend is crazy.

Cheers to Lifesteal season 6! So much more angst possibilities, but this was something more bittersweet than angsty. Nice change! Anyways I have a headache so enjoy this poorly written study as I go sleep :3
