Work Text:
Ryusei sighed for the umpteenth time, watching his boyfriend texting furiously with Emma while bawling his eyes out. The wedding ended hours ago, yet here he was, sobbing uncontrollably over the entire ceremony.
He stood at the doorway, balancing two cups of tea. Chifuyu finally set down his phone and reclined on the sofa.
"Done talking with Emma-chan?" He asked, offering Chifuyu a cup.
"Yeah," He said hoarsely, "Draken-kun was worried because she couldn't rest today," he accepted the cup gratefully and took a sip.
Ryusei hummed into the cup as he took a seat next to Chifuyu, who immediately leaned on him, resting his head on his shoulder. He rested his head on top of Chifuyu letting his eyes shut close, savoring the moment.
As the night darkened, they knew they should retire soon, yet neither made a move to leave. They sat there in silence, relishing each other's company.
Putting away his now empty cup, Ryusei turned towards Chifuyu and kissed the crown of his head, murmuring against his hair, "It was a good wedding."
"Yeah," Chifuyu teared up again, "I'm so happy."
"Sappy Fuyu is back huh?" he would've been smacked on the head if he didn't sound so affectionate.
"Oh, shut up," he mumbled, letting Ryusei take his empty cup from his hand, "Takemichi finally got married!" he sobbed.
Instead of answering, Ryusei pulled him closer to himself, wrapping his arms around his lover. Chifuyu leaned further into the embrace, resting his head on Ryusei's chest.
"I've always wanted to see it happen you know," Chifuyu whispered, "It's like watching your favorite manga couple get together but in real life."
Ryusei chuckled at that, "Well, you did see your favorite couple get married in real life."
"They look so good together!"
"They do," Ryusei agreed, "Everyone was so happy, it was nice."
"Right? Emma-chan couldn't stop crying. I think even Baji-san cried a little, but he won't admit it."
"Typical Keisuke-kun."
They both laughed, recalling their captain's puffy eyes as he fiercely denied shedding any tears at the ceremony.
"Do you think we could have a wedding like that someday?" Chifuyu asked tentatively after a while.
"Hm, sure why not?" The answer was immediate.
"We have to wear matching suits!"
"Obviously," Ryusei couldn't hide the fondness in his voice.
"We should have a wedding theme."
"How about a Peke J-themed wedding?" He was tempted to call him Ronaldinho like he used to, but after being berated so often by Chifuyu for giving him an identity crisis, he opted for calling him Peke J instead.
"That is perfect!" Chifuyu sat up, his puffy eyes sparkling with excitement. "We can also have a giant Peke J cake with many tiny Peke J on top of it."
"I don't mind the giant cake but do you want to be eating cake Peke j in front of real Peke j?"
"Oh my god, you're right," he gasped, "How could I do this to Peke J?!"
Ryusei snickered, "Maybe you should apologize to Peke J then."
As if on cue, the master of the house pranced into the living room and dashed across the carpeted floor to claim his throne — Chifuyu's lap.
"Speak of the devil." Ryusei patted Peke J's head. "Were you listening to us?" Peke J only meowed in response.
"Don't worry Peke J, I won't eat you!" Chifuyu scooped up the cat and buried his face in its fur, showering it with apologies.
Ryusei watched their interaction chuckling softly at his boyfriend.
"We can still have Peke J-themed decorations right?" Chifuyu asked, exhilaration evident on his face.
"Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way," he whispered, pulling him back in an embrace and planting a soft kiss on his forehead.
Satisfied with the answer, Chifuyu returned to talking about everything he wanted at their wedding. Ryusei listened to him ramble about their wedding, occasionally dropping a suggestion. Chifuyu's voice was tender and Ryusei couldn't help but let himself be captivated by the moment.
He savored the tender moment, hesitant to disrupt its tranquility. As Chifuyu spoke in hushed tones, Ryusei gently stroked his hair, absorbing each word with a soft hum of agreement. Warm and safe in their own bubble, this world belonged to only them at the moment. Ryusei could feel himself drifting away.
"I'm going to propose to you, so don't you dare beat me to it," Chifuyu declared, snapping Ryusei's attention back to him.
"Can't promise you that, Fuyu ♡"
"Huh, why not?" Chifuyu exclaimed. "I want to be the first to ask!"
"Well, then you'll have to beat me, Fuyu."
"We're really going to compete over who proposes first?"
"Sure, why not?" Ryusei chuckled, rising from the sofa and pulling Chifuyu along, accidentally dropping Peke J. The cat landed gracefully on its feet, casting a betrayed glance at Ryusei.
"Sorry, Peke J," He petted his head softly, while Peke J just meowed and wandered away.
"Where are we going?" Chifuyu asked when he realized he was being dragged away by Ryusei.
"To bed. It's getting late."
"Shouldn't we take a bath first?"
"Hm, you're right. Why don't you go set up the bath? I'll get some clothes and join you."
"Yeah, okay," Chifuyu yawned, the exhaustion from the day finally catching up.
"Don't fall asleep in the bath," Ryusei called out to Chifuyu who waved in response.
He entered their bedroom to see Peke J had already claimed the bed. He smiled softly at the sight of Peke J curled up on his pillow and treaded softly to their cupboard. He retrieved their clothes as quietly as possible so as to not disturb the sleeping feline.
The sound of running water and a faint humming drifted from the bathroom.
He pulled open the drawer, filled with junk he had stashed away, confident that neither he nor Chifuyu would ever rummage through it. Scouring through it, he pulled out the small velvet box with a tiny cat symbol on the surface.
He gazed at it briefly, considering his choices with a mixture of nerves and anticipation, before sighing and carefully tucking it back into the drawer.
This time, he'd let Chifuyu win. Just this once.
