Work Text:
Dan sees Phil reaching over to clink their piña coladas together, and bends his wrist to do so. They take a sip, the lazy midday cheers complete. Well, Phil’s gets to be lazy. He’s got a book in his lap ready to be read. Dan has, of all things for holiday, his freaking laptop and a video to edit.
It’s their own fault, leaving the mukbang until the night before they left. Classic, actually. And it’s been a while since they had to edit a full video on their own anyways— maybe Dan’s due.
The edit is going smoothly, honestly it’s a good video base to start with, Dan’s liking how things are coming together. Eventually he gets to an anecdote about orthostatic hypotension, mistaken twerking, a broken lamp. He scrolls through his photos on his phone and is amazed to find he did indeed document the destruction.
“I can’t believe I actually got a picture of that fancy lamp,” Dan says, showing Phil his phone.
“Before it got swept up and thrown out forever,” Phil frowns.
“Are you still upset about that? I knew you wouldn’t be able to let it go,” Dan laughs.
Phil also laughs, but he looks like he’s trying to remain indignant. “It was a really fancy lamp!”
“Yeah, it was,” Dan says, “And maybe we’d still have that lamp if someone caught me while I was fainting.”
“I stand by what I said! It’s a good rule I think, if you say I’m fainting I’ll come and help you, of course I will. But if you just say oh no it could be anything.”
“Babe,” Dan turns his full body as best he can towards Phil in his lounge chair, “I know you have fainted I believe twice in your entire life, so it’s not something you’re an expert at. But I want you to think back to when it was happening. Did you have the wherewithal to say anything as complex as I’m fainting?”
Phil does his very best to hold back laughter. He mostly fails. “No. I, er, I guess not.”
“Like, I can try my best to alert you. That’s what the oh no is, really. But you’re not getting much more than that.”
“Okay, then here’s the deal, you have to only say oh no when you’re fainting!” Phil smiles wide.
“I… can’t promise that…” Dan says, thinking of all the many situations that phrase is employed.
“So we solved nothing,” Phil says, holding up his hand for a high five. Dan high fives him, but also grasps that hand and pulls it to his lips.
