If Fit had to tell someone about how he managed to end up in a cave in the middle of a bunch of mountains, and not just any kind of mountains, but ones covered in snow, he wasn't sure how he'd respond. It seemed both simple and ridiculous on how he ended up here. Almost embarrassing if he was being honest with himself. How else do you describe deciding that there couldn't be that many mountains to traverse before the sun set and you had to find shelter because you're too far out to turn back now and you don't want to die to mobs? He really thought that it would take under an hour to get through, but the terrain seemed to be against him. Not only that, but the snow itself that covered the mountains and small plains, was dangerous too. Fit didn't have the required gear to just walk around without worrying about dropping through right into the snow.
He certainly didn't accidentally get almost buried a few times. Fit refused to admit to that.
If anything, the one way in which he felt lucky was that he was not alone. Pac had decided to join him earlier today in exploring. He thought it'd be a fun adventure for the two of them. With their children asleep today and their friends busy, it was easy for the pair to head off together. Fit had joked that it could be their second date, but now that they were trapped in a cave near the top of a mountain, he would rather not consider this a date at all.
They had made a fire but even with the heat from it, they were both shivering. They were seated close together, both of them facing the entrance to the cave. They had done their best to block it and luckily the cave itself didn't go deep enough that there was darkness behind them for mobs to spawn. They were relatively safe, but it was better to be careful. As the night went on, it only got colder, a snowstorm appearing because why not? They were already trapped in here for the night, so a snowstorm was par for the course.
Pac had tucked himself as tightly as he could, watching the snow fly by. They had been talking on and off the entire time, nothing too deep, but the conversation helped. Right now they had both fallen quiet. The cold made it difficult to want to talk. Fit frowned. He didn't have a jacket or anything he could give Pac to help keep him warm. He only had himself. That was good enough, though, right? He felt shy about it, still getting used to being affectionate with Pac. He wondered if that feeling would ever go away, if being affectionate with one another would get easier, become natural. If he wouldn't find himself blushing as he reached out and arm and pulled Pac against him. He could feel Pac tense for a moment, but once he was cuddled against Fit's side, he relaxed. Then after another moment, he was pressing his face against his side, wrapping his own arms around Fit's waist.
"You're freezing."
"You're not any better."
Pac laughed, shaking from both the laughter and the shivers. Fit did feel warmer, trying to inch them closer to the fire, without getting too close. Sure being on fire would keep them warm, but it would also set them on fire. Maybe it would have been a better idea to respawn back at their bases, away from the cold and ice and too tall mountains that went on for too long. But as Pac climbed into his lap, Fit wasn't really rushing to get back there. They held each other close, still not really talking, but slowly feeling better. Fit pressed a kiss on top of Pac's head, a little clumsily. His head was tucked beneath his chin. Pac was just short enough to fit relatively well folded up against him, taking full advantage of that. Fit wouldn't have cared if he was taller than him or bigger or anything else. If Pac wanted to cuddle with him in his lap, he could. He'd hear no complaints.
"I'm sorry I got us stuck here."
"No need to apologize Fitch. I was the one who said we shouldn't turn back."
"But I was the one who picked the direction. And I said that the snowy mountains would be fine at the very start. Even if you didn't think we should have turned back later."
Pac didn't respond for a moment. He just held Fit tighter. Fit didn't push him to say anything else. Neither of them were really going to blame the other for what happened. "I'm glad if I'm trapped here with anyone it's with you. You're like a giant teddy bear."
"Come on Pac, you're going to ruin my image saying something like that."
Pac laughed. "I think it's too late to save your image with me. I know how soft you are." Pac pulled back a little bit so that he could look Fit in the face. His smile seemed to catch in the glow of the firelight, looking like it could warm Fit with it alone. "Don't worry. I like that about you. And I know you could kick anyone's ass if you need to. Maybe a Yeti will show up and you'll have to fight it off."
"If a Yeti shows up, I'll do my best."
"You'd win." Pac sounded confident about that. Fit found himself believing it. Believing in Pac's faith in him.
It fell quiet again, but by this point the two of them were starting to fade. No longer were either of them focused on the dark and snowy sky outside, instead on each other. Fit laid down, pulling Pac with him. It felt a little intimate and for a moment Fit worried about what kind of impression he might have given, but Pac merely cuddled close to him, tangling them together as much as he could. They slept like that, facing each other and holding the other. Fit didn't even remember falling asleep, but soon enough he was opening his eyes to bright sunlight coming in and a snoring Pac snuggled against his side. It was almost painful to have to split from one another after waking up. The warmth from snuggling all night too nice and enticing. Fit almost asked if they could stay here for longer.
But Pac greeted him with a sleepy smile and kiss on the nose and soon enough they were putting out the fire that seemed to last all night and heading back. Holding hands and staying close, making sure to chase the cold from the other all the way back.
