Undeniably ancient, the lively power the draconequus Discord holds allows him to express himself in an almost childish manner.
A gift even if it fools no one. Cataclysmic, impossible, power sat under each foolhardy and/or downright entertaining act, effectively keeping most creatures around him on a knife's edge.
Even those considered his friends, allies, hold an ounce of scrutiny and wariness towards his actions.
More often than not displayed appropriately through irritation, not that he could blame them.
He is not necessarily a forthcoming creature, which more often than not leaves him a shady figure in the eyes of others.
Not hers. Not Fluttershy’s.
The buttercream pony constantly blushing shyly behind the baby pink curtain of her mane, or giggling behind her hooves at his every endeavor.
It’s addicting, endearing to think that a non-draconequus could not only comprehend but appreciate his acts, and go so far as to forgive them and him when they got out of hand in a matter that was detrimental.
Chaos was tricky like that, the line between mayhem and malice near impossible for a draconequus to see, but one rather easy for ponies.
Fluttershy gently teaches, and because he wants her companionship, praise, and for her to be in the utmost of spirits; he listens and learns for the first time in what could essentially be an epoch.
Worth it indeed when her captivating (pun certainly intended) turquoise eyes look up at him.
He’d chosen this height and width to only be slightly above pony royalty, leaving him towering over their much smaller subjects.
Fluttershy is not only the tallest and oldest of all her friends, though Twilight would be passing her up soon now that she’d been granted her wings, and she’s also the one he’s the most flexible with his height around.
Of course he had a lot of fun with making himself small and miniscule, but it was a rare thing indeed for him to grow much larger in scale.
Now he does, making himself as large as their sea serpent friend Steven Magnet, as he, Fluttershy, and all her little woodland friends picnic in her butterfly garden.
She sat comfortably on the bridge of his nose, playfully scrunching up her muzzle at his antics, especially as his loose fingers, the size of snakes, slither around with the real snakes, eating sandwich crusts as they were their designated finger food.
He has to cross his eyes to really look at her as her abrupt eruption into a fit of endeared laughter has her head falling forward between his eyes - connecting them.
Her fur is soft, warm, practically velveteen against the cool skin of his reptilian - though horse shaped - face.
Personal space wasn’t something he often concerned himself with, a trait he knew unnerved others, most too afraid to touch him due to his Chimera like properties.
Finding his amalgamated parts unnatural, therefore sickening to touch.
It’s all too evident as she affectionately nuzzles at the arches of his brows and the ridges of his snout; she’s unbothered by such prejudice.
The element of kindness indeed as butterflies landed in the tresses of her mane and tail, inspecting the feathers of her fanned out wings due to their floral color.
A beautiful flower indeed, though she doesn’t have the nectar they’re looking for as their proboscises tickle her skin.
Floating one of his fingers, he shoos away a particularly hungry and daring monarch that if given a second more would have attempted to search her ear.
An appreciative nuzzle is his consolation prize for his small act of chivalry, Fluttershy then pointing a hoof in the direction of a nice big flower for the monarch to partake in.
It follows her direction easily, not that Discord could blame it, he’d move mountains if she asked.
Well, he’d do much more than that. Ridiculous, fantastical things like rearrange the cosmos to befuddle the astrologists and Princess Luna herself, or turn the oceans into chocolate pudding.
The only reason he refrains is because in the long run she wouldn’t like that.
Although he might just conjure a constellation for his perfect equine friend, out of the stars Princess Lu’Lu wouldn’t mind him messing around with of course.
Then his dearest Fluttershy couldn’t find some fault in it, other than her own, highly unwarranted, self-consciousness.
He wasn’t a pretty creature, and truly draconequus had a hard time judging equestrian beauty standards, but as far as he could see; there wasn’t a steed more breathtaking than the one before him.
Discord wasn’t limiting that to her appearance either. Her presence alone wasn’t something to ignore.
Sublime in nature. Her kindness was a virtue that had elevated her into an element. All the girls had a similar aura, creating a harmony.
One would think Chaos would tie in more closely with Magic or Laughter, yet its kindness that moved his immortal soul.
It is kindness that has reformed him. Made him better, made him happier than he ever had any right to be.
That is why she is the most beautiful of them all, with the sun illuminating her until she’s practically golden, and her mane fluttering between the swarms of butterflies in the morning to the cloudy rose color that filled the sky just before the sun fully sets.
Harry regurgitates a noise from behind them, one coming deep from the chest, similar to a growl, but in all accuracy as both Fluttershy and Discord spoke the animals word of mouth, they knew it to be a yawn.
The pair of them share a laugh at that, one that every so slightly jostles Fluttershy, Discord reigning it in enough to not send her toppling.
He’d have caught her regardless before she could even catch herself.
Sometimes she forgot she had wings, not that it’d be too hard a fall anyway, any scuffed hooves he would have rectified regardless.
So long as chaos existed, as it always would, he’d protect her from any true harm.
That was one of the many simple kindnesses he could do as he magically refilled a bowl of carrots to distract Angel with, so the little bunny wouldn’t throw a fit at his and his owner’s closeness.
“Oh my, I didn’t realize how late it’d gotten,” She blinks, the pink in the sky having soothed into a dark canvas for only the brightest stars to show before heralding the rest.
Neither had he, the passage of time inconsequential, it only having gained meaning the day he met her.
Her bright colors give her away in the moonlight.
It hard to bury the sun.
“I hope I didn’t keep you from anything,” she tells him mournfully as she jumps from his head with a beat of her wings.
“Not at all my dear Fluttershy, my days, evenings, and nights belong only to you.”
The animal expert’s cheeks match her mane as she stammers, “Oh my.”
Clearly not having expected such an answer. In all honesty it’s not the one he expected to give either.
Maybe he could be forthcoming after all.
