Summary
When Penelope and Colin get a call from Aggie’s elementary school, they did not expect to stand opposite Eliza and Roger Trowbridge, with the couple’s son crying and accusing Aggie of bullying him.
“Mr. and Mrs. Bridgerton,” Headmistress Strelitz said, her authoritative voice reverberating throughout the cramped office. “Your daughter has said some very problematic things pertaining to the… legitimacy of Mr. and Mrs. Trowbridge’s son. It is very concerning, especially with regards to your home life. Er, what was it she said exactly, darling?” she addressed the little ginger boy.
The little boy in question sniffled, his eyes red-rimmed and misty, “She said my daddy is not my real daddy because I look more like our driver!”
Penelope and Colin looked at each other in alarm while Mrs. Trowbridge whispered an audible, “Oh, for fuck’s sake.”
“Is this true, Agatha?” inquired Principal Strelitz.
Aggie nodded fervently, looking vindicated, “Yes, but it’s true! I heard mama and papa say so!”
OR
Penelope and Colin learn the hard way that their kids can hear them gossiping.

This revelation has hit him very recently, with all the subtlety and gentle touch of an express train to the face. He has no idea what to do about it.
Tell her, is the obvious solution, and he will. Well. He would but the prospect is terrifying. He'll show her instead. She's learnt to flirt while he was away on his travels so surely she'll pick up what he's putting down. Right?
Unluckily for him, Penelope has a decade and a half of experience in silently enduring unrequited love. It's a reflex for her, like breathing, and the idea of Colin ever returning her feelings so farfetched even her clever brain would never consider it.
And there the matter stands. Until it doesn't.
