“Finally, the hermit joins us.” Sirius cheers as James walks into the pub and takes their seat next to Peter and across from Sirius and Remus.
James rolls their eyes, “I wish I could’ve gotten out, but I’m finished with most of my school work for now. It’s the weekend, I’m not thinking about it right now.”
“Why are you even sticking with Chem?” Remus asks, sliding a drink over to James, “You’re constantly complaining about it?”
“It’s interesting.” They shrug, taking the drink from Remus, “Cheers.”

James is taking chemistry though they constantly complain about it. When asked why they continue to take it, they can't really supply an answer. Turns out the best thing keeping them in the course is one pretty boy that they can fool around with.
