When The Clouds Part

Summary:

MK hears his mysterious new mentor lament about how he misses the Sun.
Follow MK as he misreads the situation and brings his new mentor to the sunniest place he knows.

Notes:

Inspired by a post by fluffypotatey on Tumblr! (I'll include a link in the main body of the fic)

I felt like writing this in honour of Season 5's English dub. It made me cry, so I figured we'd need some crack and fluff up in here.

Chapter Text

Qi Xiaotian, known to most - if not all - as MK, watched as his new mentor cleaned up after their most recent training session. It had been a rough one, and MK knew he'd be sore tomorrow. Hopefully Pigsy wouldn't be too mad if he was a bit behind with his deliveries. The tuk-tuk wasn't all that comfortable to drive after training sessions; he'd found that out quickly enough. Not even just from this training, but Monkey King's training too!

Speaking of training...

MK watched as his new mentor, a celestial primate like Monkey King, paused his efforts to tidy up to gaze forlornly out the only window in the dojo. The Six-Eared Macaque was... strange. He said that he and his other mentor were old friends, but whenever MK brought him up Macaque didn't seem happy to hear about him. He also grumbled a lot. And that said something, coming from MK who was raised by Pigsy of all demons! MK knew a thing or two about complainers. It was mostly about stuff MK didn't get, stuff like 'they're so similar', 'did he have a hand in this?' and most commonly: 'Gods he has no idea how to teach.'

Well, MK knew what that one meant, anyway.

He took a sip of water from his bottle and adjusted his headband, watching Macaque continue to stare out the window. He did that a lot, had every session MK had had with the guy. It wasn't like there was much of a view, it had been cloudy for the past week. Maybe Macaque was upset that it was cloudy?

"I miss the Sun," MK heard him mumble, staring off into the distance like the drama queen MK was learning his second mentor not-so-secretly was.

MK perked up. Now, his hearing wasn't as good as his second mentor's (why was he called the 'Six-Eared' Macaque when he only had two? Was it because his hearing was so good? Or was it shape-shifting magic?) but he definitely heard that clearly. No wonder Macaque had been complaining, the weather has been awful for ages! He wiggled happily. Would arranging something somewhere sunny cheer up his mentor? Not that Macaque needed cheering up, it's that Macaque seemed to be in a particularly bad mood recently. Not that MK even knew what Macaque was like normally--

"You up for another round, bud?" Macaque's voice broke through the silence of the dojo, startling him from his thoughts. "Of course!" MK exclaimed, jumping to his feet, plans pushed to the back of his mind.
