"Hello?"
The sound of an unfamiliar voice would normally be enough to draw Madara over, but he won't deny that he speeds up considerably when he sees a strange cat bowling over Kagami.
"Let's be friends!" The orange tom is leaping with excitement, cavorting all over the place, and Kagami spins around to keep him in view.
Madara won't stand for anyone bullying one of his clowder and he yowls loudly in challenge before ramming his body into this new cat. Stupidly huge, his opponent is even bigger than him, the largest cat he's ever seen, but Madara manages to shove him away.
"Oh!" Rather than bristling as anyone sane would, the other tom looks excited. "Another cat! There are two of you!"
"There are a lot more than shishou and me!" Kagami pipes up, and Madara hisses at him to be quiet before turning his attention to this interloper.
"Who are you!" He doesn't try to sound polite, not that he needs to, not when this is his garden. "Why are you here!"
"I'm Hashirama!" Orange ears flick cheerfully and Hashirama sniffs at them with interest. "More cats? Can they be my friends too - ?"
"No!" Madara interrupts the question with a swipe of his claws, and Hashirama flinches backwards in dismay. "Go away!"
"But - !"
"Go back where you came from!" Madara shouts and he can hear the thunder of paws on the engawa as the rest of the clowder runs to his aid. "This isn't your territory!"
"Ooops!" Hashirama flattens himself against the grass, contrition in the line of his spine. "We just moved in next door! I was only curious, I swear!"
"STRAY!" Izuna's screech of rage is piercing as he charges out of the house, and it's finally enough to make this idiot turn tail and flee.
"I'm not a stray!" Protests float back on the wind as Hashirama nimbly climbs the wooden fence that separates their garden from the house next door and disappears over it. "I'm a friend!"
"Some friend," Izuna retorts, licking at his paw disdainfully. "Who invades another cat's territory without asking - especially ours - that's what I want to know!"
"A fool, clearly." Madara agrees, turning to check on his kitten - and Kagami will always be the kitten he raised despite now being almost an adult. "You're okay? He didn't hurt you?"
"I'm fine, shishou!" Kagami looks up at him trustingly. "He only knocked me over because I was surprised! He didn't attack me!"
"Hmph!" Madara bares his teeth at the fence and the cat behind it. "He still shouldn't have done it."
It's the indisputable truth and he herds his clowder back inside before lying down on the engawa and staring at the neighbouring house.
He's going to remember that cat.
