All Aboard, Except You

Summary:

An annoyingly dressed and flamboyant owl(?) attempts to snoop around a particularly unhappy penguin's ship, what's the worst that could happen?

(AKA. Short fic about my Swap AU)

Notes:

I just wanted to write this because for one, I love my Swap AU so much and I need to get this out of my system and, two, I can't sleep, so I'm hoping this will make me tired, enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was night, the time that most things like this happen unless you're a complete idiot. I mean, who tries to sneak onto someone's property mid-day? That's just stupid.

DJ hauled himself onto the large pirate ship, landing onto the main deck with a thud, he barely even got onto the ship in the first place. The thing was huge, he had no idea why he thought climbing the thing in heels was a good idea, but it's past that point now. DJ stood up with a huff and dusted himself off, getting all of the dirt from his feathers that had consequentially gotten there from falling on the floor.

"Damned penguins..." He groveled to himself, he absolutely despised getting himself dirty and, of course, this place was incredibly dirty. Oh, the things you have to do to get blackmail on someone, he supposed. DJ looked around as he attempted to not step on any of the many creaky floorboards while he walked, there were a few barrels, small boxes, the things you would expect. Though, his attention was brought to the captain's grand cabin. Surely there'd be some useful stuff in there, that's basically where the guy lived-- Actually, he wasn't sure if he didn't live there.

DJ carefully made his way to the entryway of the cabin, quietly opening up the door which was, conveniently, unlocked. He walked inside, snickering to himself as he made his way towards a desk and began rummaging around in the drawers. There were a few papers, extra feather pens, extra ink, and other... lame things. This guy really was a bore, wasn't he--

"DJ." Said an unfortunately familiar voice that was stern and rough, it got a jump out of DJ, that was sure. He swiftly turned around before leaning onto the desk he was previously looking through and putting his other hand on his hip.

"Ah, Captain Galactic! What're ye doin' here, love?" DJ asked with a grin. He could tell the captain was glaring daggers at him behind those circular sunglasses he was wearing. His large sword was drawn as he stood there, blocking the doorway.

"I thought there was a real threat on board, turns out it was a pest." Captain Galactic said in a flat, yet exasperated tone. He began to walk closer to the owl, causing the jewelry on his hair to lightly tink together as he did.

"Come on, captain! Yer know I would nae do nothin'. Ey, no--" DJ was grabbed by the hood of his fur-lined coat, suspended into the air like some wild animal. He yelled frustratedly and grabbed at the captain's wrist as he walked back out of the grand cabin. Captain Galactic sighed.

"You would do everything given the chance... Do you have any idea how annoying it is catching you on my ship twice a week?" He asked rhetorically, his annoyance being prevalent through his sharp tone. DJ snickered as he crossed his arms and stuck his nose up proudly.

"Yer like to see me at least a wee bit though, don't ya, love? I mean, ye always come and personally escort me off."

"Well, let's see how much you like to see the ground, hm?" DJ hadn't noticed as he was too busy being a smug prick, but Captain Galactic had stopped by the edge of the ship and was now suspending him out in the air. DJ looked down at the ground, his ears reeling back slightly. It was about a 15-foot drop, which wasn't lethal, but it'd sure as hell hurt.

"Hah! Good one, love. Yer would nae do that, would ya? It'd mess up me lovely face fallin' from a drop like that." DJ asked, feigning innocence as to hopefully not get thrown off the side of the boat. If he had eyes he'd be batting his eyelashes, but alas.

DJ hobbled back inside the studio, eventually making it to his bedroom. At least living in the studio made situations like these more convenient. He pulled out a first aid kit from a drawer on his nightstand and opened it up as he mumbled and cursed to himself.

"Peckin'- Stupid- urgh..." DJ groaned while using a couple of heart pons on his shoulder. The captain would in fact throw him off of the ship, and DJ did not enjoy seeing the floor. He hated it, actually. It was not a fun experience.

Notes:

I really need to sleep, I need to go to a marching band thing in like three hours. But that's okay, woohoo sleep deprivation!

Some fun tidbits:

- Captain Galactic's ship is called "The Spaceship," it's a large, floating pirate ship that acts as a replacement for the Owl Express!

- Their personalities are mostly the same, they just grew up differently. Captain's life was more messy and chaotic, growing up as a pirate would do that. His parents were supportive of his decision to move planetside, though. They had it rough! (Heavily inspired by The_Angst_Alchemist's backstory for Grooves by the way...) DJ lived in a large city, he pretty much had the dream of being popular from the start. He loved parties, so why not make that his entire life?

- Captain Galactic has a few nieces and nephews, 6 of them combined, actually. (Like a parallel to Conductor's grandchildren! DJ doesn't have any children OR grandchildren, however... I still don't think Galactic would have children himself, though.)
