Work Text:
Alicent entered the council room, ready to hear the news of her upcoming marriage to the King, Viserys I. She worked tirelessly, reading to him nightly and forcing herself endure his body when he called upon her. It was work that was beneath her as a daughter of the seven but work that was necessary in order to ensure that the kingdom didn't fall into the hands of daemon or worse, Rhaenyra.
She was known as the best friend of the princess, but she secretly loathed her. How could a girl of such great upbringing be so..... unladylike. Rhaenyra never went to the sept. She never went to her lessons with her Septa. She insisted upon flying everyday or every other day with that wretched beast and eat cake in Godswood. She was unlike herself, a faithful daughter who listened to her father's word. Rhaenyra couldn't even entertain the idea of marriage, she was almost a woman grown for sevens sake!!
Alicent followed the words of her father, entertaining the king in hopes of getting the position of the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. She had plans for once she became Queen. She would marry Rhaenyra to Jason Lannister, forcing her away from the Red Keep, and have the kings firstborn son. She would bring a wave of faith to the kingdom, and hopefully get rid of the evil fourteen flames, the wretched religion that Rhaenyra insisted upon practicing.
As Alicent waited for Rhaenyra to enter, she asked her father if he knew if the king would announce their betrothal today to the council. Her father, the Hand of the king, knew what most men wouldn't dare dream of knowing and knew almost everything that the king would plan to do in these meetings. Her father replied saying that he was confident that the king would announce it today and to not fret, that he would ensure it.
Rhaenyra finally entered the room, a whole twenty minutes late, and stood in the back of the room facing her father. She inquired as to why the "Lady Alicent" was present, but her questions were ignored as the King began the meeting.
The usual things were brought up, the triarchy, the budget for the orphanages run in queen Aemmas name as well as other trivial matters. Finally the moment arrived, the moment Alicent had been waiting for. The announcement of her marriage to the King.
Viserys stood, and the other lords stood with him. He opened his mouth and uttered in a regal voice " Today my lords, i come to you with news that might be surprising. I was going to announce my marriage to the Lady Alicent Hightower, but it seems that the Gods had a different plan for me". Alicent stood in shock, she couldn't believe the words that the King stated. Before she could speak, Rhaenyra spoke.
"Today I am here to bring you evidence of the wrongdoings done to House Targaryen done by House Hightower". The council room broke into a roar that could be compared to a tourney! Otto screeched loudly that this was not true and that house hightower served faithfully to the house targaryen. Alicent felt like she couldn't breathe. Still the princess kept speaking.
" House hightower is accused of murder, treason, theft, and worst of all, the murder of Queen Aemma. What do the accused have to say for themselves”?
Her father screamed that this was a farce, that this couldn’t be true and that this was a lie made up to paint house hightower in a bad light. He demanded to ask who could possibly have accused him of this treason.
The guards opened the doors and in chains entered Maester Mellos. He looked worse for wear, with his eyes bruised and his nose broken. He spoke in a voice so raspy you could hardly hear what he said. What he said, however, shook alicent to the core.
“House hightower, specifically otto hightower, was working with myself in order to bring down house Targaryen. We planned from the time King Jaehaerys passed, we needed to get Hightower blood on the throne in order to purify the royal family. Too long did we allow incest and monstrous beasts to rule over us. What we needed now was a family with connections to the sept to rule over the seven kingdoms”
The room went quiet, not a single soul dare to speak. Rhaenyra removed the maester from the room and brought even more evidence to damn the hightowers.
“With me is the additional evidence to prove that the Hightowers plotted to kill my mother. Documents shared between lord Otto and the maesters asking to give the queen moon tea when she was pregnant with my siblings, diluted in her tea in order to cause miscarriages and weaken her womb. My siblings born alive were smothered with pillows or given milk of the poppy to ensure they would die in their cradle. Worst of all, he gave my mother a poison that killed my brother Baelon in her womb in order to ensure that my mother would pass in her labors.” said the Princess, her voice almost breaking with the intensity of how she spoke.
Alicent turned to the king, begged him to believe that she had no part in this but the princess continued.
She brought out the evidence that alicent had made, her plans to purify the city as well as the papers to betroth the princess with Jason Lanniter. Her heart froze, knowing she had been caught.
Finally the king spoke, speaking in a calm voice as if this hadn’t just happened.
“The Hightowers have proven that they are ungrateful to the kingdom for their riches and that they value themselves more than the King! I call for them all to be executed, bar the lady Alicent Hightower”.
Alicent went on her knees and thanked the king for his kindness. She couldn’t believe that she had been spared. The king ignored her and continued to speak.
“The lady Alicent Hightower has been a great assistance in my grief, and for that I am granting her a title. No longer is she lady Alicent Hightower, she shall forever be known as The Kings Whore. I am taking her as my mistress and not my ladywife.”
Alicent could not believe what happened. The council clapped and Rhaenyra smirked. The hand, well former hand now, spoke to try to get the king see reason, for Alicent was with child and deserved better, but the king was firm and told him that any child bore between himself and his whore was a bastard and would be sent to the north to be raised to be a guard for the wall.
Rhaenyra asked if Alicent was faring well, perhaps she needed to lie down in her new quarters, the room adjoining the kings in order to prepare herself for her new role.
Alicent just stared blankly, for how could this happen to her. She was the daughter of the hand of the king, the daughter of the second most powerful man in the realm. This couldn't be happening.
The King ended the meeting and called Alicent to his side. He grasped her face in a loving embrace, an embrace so sweet that alicent asked if he truly meant what he stated. Viserys eyes turned cold, he grasped her face harshly and told her she needed to get used to it and to prepare herself, for he felt the need to get his cock wet after such an intense meeting.
The end of House Hightower was such, for how could such an insignificant house ever compare themselves to House Targaryen. Rhaenyra went on to rule with Daemon at her side, further cementing themselves in the history of House Targaryen with their ten children by their side, ensuring that the dragons ruled and that fire and blood shall reign forevermore.
