Work Text:

“Wow, you made this?” Chip Chase rolled around the sculpture, eyes wide behind his glasses as he took in every detail he could. The Human eye had limitations that meant he couldn’t see all the colors that had been incorporated into this particular piece, but that obviously didn’t matter too much at the moment.

“Yeah.” Sunstreaker smiled ruefully at the statue, a product of a very late night on too many energy supplements. “When I was a lot younger. Back before my paintings became so high demand that I started doing nothing else.”

“If all your sculpture was like this, I don’t know why they didn’t get just as popular.” Chip smiled at him as he came back around to face Sunstreaker. “I really like the way it feels like it’s about to fly away.”

“Yeah? Me too.” Sunstreaker’s smile turned more genuine. “Lancer’s team found another one of my old pieces in the library, you want to see it before we hang it?”

“Boy, do I!”

This sculpture, created by our own Sunstreaker of Kaon in the Cybertronian year 22.509.Z, features an array of metals and minerals arranged in a formation that suggests the flight of a bird or Seeker. Many of the minerals incorporate colors that are not visible to the Human eye, but Friends of Gallery assure us that it is as enjoyable for them as for the Cybertronian optic. The artist apologizes for not remembering every component, however, as this piece was constructed during a very late night when he should have been studying for a final examination.

“Sunstreaker, you can’t put that on the plaque!” Mirage laughed as he read Sunstreaker’s blurb.

“Why not? It’s true.” Sunstreaker smiled at him, an expression that still felt odd even after so many years working together. “Besides, it’ll make me more relatable to some of those kids that get dragged in here for school trips they don’t want to be on, or who should also be studying for a final they don’t want to take.”

“Oh, fine. We’ll leave it.”

“Oh good, because my next tactic was to mention the companion piece. I thought it was amazing that night, but in the morning it just looked like a giant valve.”

Mirage visibly struggled to contain himself for a moment. Then he laughed hard enough to make himself drop the data pad in his hands.

Notes:

The dating system I use here is completely made up by me. I don't know if canon has ever really given us one, and I made this one (or one similar at least) up years before the most likely suspect (the MTMTE comic) would have done so. I works like this:

Day.Years of the Prime.The Prime

So the date referenced in this story would be the 22nd day of the 509th year of Zeta Prime's reign.
