Love on The Grand Line

Summary:

A series of one-shots set during Luffy's grand adventure to find the One Piece. These stories will follow the anime—not necessarily in chronological order—and focus on the Straw Hats as they discover a little love along the way in the Grand Line, especially between our Captain and Navigator.

Notes:

One Piece is owned by Eiichiro Oda. I just own the dialogues and non-canon scenes. :)

In an unexpected twist during the Thriller Bark arc, Oars, the massive zombie, falls madly in love with Nami instead of attacking the Straw Hat Pirates.

Chapter 1: Crush (Thriller Bark)

Chapter Text

Earlier that night, deep within the eerie confines of Thriller Bark, Gecko Moria stood before his latest creation, Oars. The massive zombie, brought to life with the power of shadows, awaited his master's orders. Moria held up a series of wanted posters, showcasing the Straw Hat Pirates.

"This," Moria began, his voice dripping with malice, "is the crew that dares to challenge us. Each one must be eliminated."

Oars's eyes scanned the posters with little interest—until they landed on Nami’s image. He froze, his monstrous heart skipping a beat. The red-haired navigator's poster seemed to shimmer in his eyes.

"Master," Oars rumbled, his voice uncharacteristically soft, "who is this beautiful lady?"

Gecko Moria growled in disgust. "That's Nami, the Straw Hat Pirates' navigator. You must kill her, just like the rest."

Oars gasped, his massive hand reaching out to gently pluck Nami's poster from Moria's grasp. He clutched it against his chest, the tiny piece of paper looking comically small against his colossal frame. His eyes, usually filled with a cold, lifeless glow, now shone with a strange tenderness.

"But... she's so cute," Oars murmured, almost shyly.

Moria's patience wore thin. "I don't care how cute you think she is! She’s the enemy, and you will follow orders!"

Oars didn't respond. Instead, he continued to gaze at Nami's poster, his monstrous heart now firmly in the grip of an unexpected crush.

The moon hung high over Thriller Bark, casting eerie shadows across the island. The Straw Hat Pirates had found themselves in yet another dire situation. Oars, the massive zombie, loomed over the crew, his shadowy form blocking out the light.

Nami, standing at the forefront, felt a shiver run down her spine as Oars's gaze locked onto her. His eyes, normally filled with a menacing gleam, softened into something disturbingly tender.

"Who's this enchanting creature?" Oars rumbled, his voice echoing through the night. "My heart feels strange... Could it be love?"

Nami's eyes widened in horror. "W-What? What are you talking about?!"

Oars's massive hand reached out, not to crush, but to gently touch her. "You! Beautiful lady, you have stolen my heart. I must prove my love to you!"

Usopp, hiding behind Zoro, couldn't believe his ears. "This can't be happening... He's supposed to be trying to kill us, not fall in love!"

Before anyone could react, Oars turned to the rest of the crew with a twisted smile. "I shall present you with gifts, my lady," he declared, "starting with the heads of these fools!"

Nami's heart pounded in her chest as she backed away, horrified. "No! That's not what I want at all! Luffy, where are you? Get over here!"

But Luffy was on the opposite side of the island, dealing with his own set of problems. There would be no rescue from him anytime soon.

Oars, undeterred by Nami's protests, dropped to one knee, causing the ground to tremble. "My beloved Nami, will you marry me?"

Before Nami could respond, a voice cut through the tension. "Only I am fit for Nami's love!" Absalom emerged from the shadows, his eyes blazing with jealousy.

Sanji, already fuming from Absalom's previous attempts to marry Nami, saw red. "Over my dead body, you beast!" he shouted, launching himself at Absalom with a furious kick.

The three titans clashed, each vying for Nami's affection in their own twisted way. Oars swung his massive fists, Absalom used his invisibility to dodge and counter, and Sanji danced around them, striking with precision and fury.

The rest of the Straw Hats watched in a mixture of shock and disbelief. Zoro and Franky exchanged confused glances, while Robin observed with a bemused smile.

Nami, meanwhile, could only sigh in exasperation. "I can't believe this... All I wanted was a normal adventure, and now I'm in the middle of a love triangle with a giant zombie and a perverted ghost."

Chopper, trying to be helpful, offered a suggestion. "Maybe if we knock them all out, we can get back to finding Luffy and escaping this place."

Nami nodded, determination replacing her earlier fear. "Good idea. Let's end this madness."

As the battle raged on, the Straw Hat Pirates steeled themselves for the chaos ahead, each silently cursing their captain for leaving them in such a bizarre predicament.

Aftermath

The Thousand Sunny sailed smoothly away from Thriller Bark, the Straw Hat Pirates finally able to catch their breath after their intense battle with Gecko Moria. As they sailed towards their next destination, Sabaody Archipelago, the crew settled into their routines, the earlier chaos beginning to feel like a distant memory.

Nami stood on the deck, her thoughts drifting back to the strange encounter with Oars. She couldn’t shake the image of the giant zombie’s infatuated expression when he looked at her. Curious, she decided to ask Luffy about it.

“Hey, Luffy,” Nami called out, walking over to where the captain was sitting. “Do you remember how Oars acted around me? Like, he had this weird crush or something.”

Luffy pursed his lips and looked away, suddenly very interested in the horizon. “No idea what you’re talking about,” he mumbled.

Robin, lounging nearby with a book, chuckled softly as she watched the exchange. "Oh, really, Luffy?"

Franky, who was at the helm, turned and called out, “Hey, everyone! We’re closing in on Sabaody Archipelago!”

The announcement effectively distracted most of the crew, who were previously keenly listening in on Nami’s question. They gathered around Franky, excitedly discussing their upcoming adventure.

With the crew preoccupied, Nami narrowed her eyes at Luffy’s evasive behavior. She watched him leap onto the figurehead of the Sunny, where he became easily distracted by the open sea.

An idea sparked in Nami’s mind, and a mischievous smile lit up her face. “You know,” she said loudly, ensuring Luffy could hear, “for a giant zombie, Oars was kind of cute.”

Luffy’s reaction was immediate. His neck stretched back as he whipped around to stare at her in shock. “What?!”

Nami shrugged innocently, her expression feigning ignorance. “What? Something I said?”

Luffy's eyes widened further, his confusion and surprise evident. The rest of the crew, now ignoring their earlier distraction, burst into laughter at the exchange, Robin's laughter being the most prominent.

“Don’t tease the captain too much, Nami,” Zoro said with a smirk, “he might actually start believing it.”

Nami joined in the laughter, giving Luffy a playful wink. “I guess we’ll never know, will we?”

Luffy scratched his head, still baffled, but soon joined in the lighthearted atmosphere. Just as Nami continued to laugh, Luffy stuck his tongue out at her in a childish display of defiance. This only made her laugh harder.

The crew’s spirits lifted even higher as they sailed on, ready for whatever adventure awaited them next at Sabaody Archipelago.
