“You know what Agatha?” Rio screams. They’re in the middle of one of their many arguments fuelled by ancient tension and lots of alcohol. This time it had started over who broke the exhaust on the classic 1926 Bentley (It was 1930’s after all, and this car was Agatha’s pride and joy). “You and your car can get the fuck away from me, I’m tired of your bullshit!”
“I’m not going anywhere, Sweetheart” Agatha replied in an aggressively sarcastic tone. “You can pack your shit, but I stay. End of fucking story”
“Fine, have it your way, miss ‘Always-Perfect’! Rio spat in reply as she grabbed random items around her to make a point.
“Hey, I’m not the one who broke the car.” Agatha, very clearly checking her manicured nails. “Maybe you’re actually right for once! Congrats darling”
“Don’t get me started Agatha, you and I both know what’ll happen.” She shoots a warning glare at her girlfriend. “Where’s Ebony?”
“Why do you want to know where Ebony is?” Agatha questioned her, suspicion racing through her. No way was she about to let Rio take her cat.
Rio stops, folding her arms and facing Agatha who is leaning against their dining table in a similar fashion. “Well I just think that since I feed her every morning because someone likes to sleep until the vampires feel safe, that she’d probably want to continue to be fed and come with me” she states in a matter-of-fact manner.
“Absolutely not. Ebony stays with me, she clearly loves me more.” Agatha was adamant. She was NOT about to give up the love of her life and her cat. This made complete sense in her very intoxicated brain, she didn’t have time to think of a future without Rio when she had more pressing matters and an ego of steel.
“If you’re so sure, let’s put it to the test!” She snaps her fingers and Ebony appears right between them in a poof of green smoke, feeling rather annoyed that her nap was disturbed.
Agatha gasped, “Hey! You know our rules, no using magic to summon the cat. You know she hates it.” Agatha begins the motions go pick Ebony up?m, but Rio quickly stops her.
“No no no, get back! We’re settling this right now. Whoever gets Ebony to come to them first gets to keep her.” Rio said, her arms reached out as if she could stop Agatha from across the room. (Technically she could, but that would break their ultimate rule of no using magic to manipulate each other in non-sexy times.)
Agatha paused, her gaze locked on Ebony. She considered her options and gave in. “Fine.”
Immediately, they both dropped down and started calling the black cat over to their respective sides of the kitchen, using every trick in the book.
“Here Ebony! Come on, you want to be fed in the mornings, don’t you?”
“Come to mommy Ebony! She’ll never love you as much as I do, come on!”
“Look I have your toy!”
“Here kitty!”
“Want some cuddles, darling?”
They continued for 15 more minutes; clicking fingers and tongues, referencing many of the cat’s favourite toys and treats, but they had no luck. Ebony had become quite bored waiting for them to tire and eventually just laid down and went back to sleep right there on the kitchen floor.
Rio stood up. “Look… let’s just sleep on it, yeah?”
“… yeah.” The aura of defeat could’ve been seen from space if it had a colour. The witches were beaten by their very own cat, and now felt exhausted after their long alcohol-fuelled fight.
They walked away and towards their bedroom in silence. Undressed in silence. Got into bed in silence.
After a beat, Agatha laid her arm over Rio’s torso, tucking her head into the green witch’s hair and sighed.
“Given up on the car baby?” Rio teases sleepily, melting into Agatha’s embrace.
“Fuck the car. I love you so much more than some car.” The amount of effort they had both put into calling Ebony had sobered the pair up a significant amount, bringing them back to reality. Agatha kissed Rio on her neck and they both said goodnight. No material object could ever come between what they had; they were like two burning stars, forever destined to orbit each other, their magnetic pull preventing them from ever separating.
Ebony climbed onto the bed and curled up just above their heads on their pillows as they drifted off to sleep, sharing their lives in consciousness and beyond into the dreamworld where they got to spend their slumber together until the next morning, ready to do it all again.
