"This is ridiculous," Kamala said, and slid out of bed, heading for the den, yanking her bathrobe off the hook by the door.
Absurd. What was wrong with Doug? Moreover, she was starting to wonder what she'd ever seen in him. He'd been adoring and attentive once, but so had plenty of others. Was it only that he'd been the one to propose first, the one who could get her away from home the fastest,or that he'd loved her the most? It seemed as if he regretted it now. He no longer even found her arousing, much less a soulmate.
The very thought made her face flush with humiliation. She'd been raised to think that she was a prize, a pearl without price (even if a couple of things had gone wrong along the way),not somebody who could be tossed aside like something unclean!
And now she "wanted too much"? What was that supposed to mean? She wasn't greedy. She wasn't grasping or avaricious. Merely ambitious, and that wasn't a crime. It was in her blood.There wasn't a Hariss yet who didn't go on to do great things. Or push others to do great things.
"Kamala?"
Kamala stopped in her tracks and turned in surprise to see you (Nicole) padding after her down the hallway. "Nicole! What are you doing up?"
